The number of historic child sexual abuse cases from Armidale in NSW is horrific. Many were detailed in the royal commission but tonight’s #4corners adds even more evidence of a paedophile network that went untouched for over 30 years.
In particular the Armidale catholic diocese clearly harboured and protected serial paedophilies like John Joseph Farrell, whilst other predators like child psychologist Alan Huggins operated with impunity.

smh.com.au/national/nsw/n…
It’s high time a formal investigation into historic child sexual assault in Armidale be conducted to expose those who have so far avoided legal responsibility.

There were some shocking revelations about safety in that @Qantas expose on @4corners last night. But the mainstream news sites haven't touched it today, because a) they didn't break it and b) Qantas spends shitloads on advertising. #4Corners
The hardest I've ever been slammed by an employer, was ten years ago at Triple M when I described @qantas's planes as "coffins with wings". And was told they spend millions on advertising and to never mention Qantas again.
The MMM boss who told me to never mention @qantas also told us to only do "One joke every talk break. Because two jokes is putting a joke on a joke. And putting a joke on a joke is like touching dicks." 10 years later I still have no idea what the fuck that means.

Yes, the public absolutely has a right to know about Canberra's culture. Because the people working there aren't just representing us the public as our elected representatives, they're formulating the laws that control our society. 1/7

how can they be trusted to act to close the gender pay gap, fund domestic violence services, child care services, ensure that female dominated industries don't exploit and underpay their workers, and represent our society equally in parliament? 3/7

40 years ago today a driver crossed onto the wrong side of the road & hit my parents' car head on. Mum died a few hours later. Alone. The car was a Ferrari & the driver had a black manbag tied to this wrist. He lied in court about weather conditions aided & abetted by police 1/
At 2 inquests Mum's death was determined to be "accidental" The driver was never charged with any driving offence. The investigating police officer was the policeman guilty of framing #RosanneBeckett for attempted murder. His name was Peter Thomas bit.ly/2YeLnOF 2/.
Dad successfully applied to the NSW Supreme court to have the original inquest verdict quashed. Justice Woodwood was scathing about the investigation that (didn't) take place. It cost him hugely financially & emotionally. After the second inquest he became embittered & angry 3/

When @Milliganreports asked me in my #4Corners interview what I felt when I heard what happened to Paris, I said I felt sad. I was sad that Peter Kehoe was allowed to work with children in the first place. I was sad that Paris was subjected to his monstrous, sickening behaviour.
I was sad that when he turned to his school for help, they turned away, and supported the offender instead. I was sad that all of this happened alongside the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
I was sad, but now I am angry. We know that regret is no longer good enough. We know that lying low to the wall is no longer acceptable. I know, from being Paris' friend for 6 years, that regret and lying low to the wall do not heal the wounds that child sexual abuse inflicts.

Creating such a picture is exactly what's intended. It'll be deeply etched onto as many people's minds as possible, & serve as a subconscious, shortcut prism through which people can interpret and gather effortlessly more China-related news. So the picture will sustain itself.
It will feed another generation of 'China watchers' (fulltime or casual), who then will produce & supply more materials and expert opinions to further validate that picture. When any random person on the street can describe vividly what that picture is, it's mission accomplished.
There is a lot said & done by CCP and certain Chinese students we don't like or endorse (the reverse is true I suspect). If someone breaks the law here, by all means apply the law. But it's unhelpful to tap into already-overflowing sense of concern & fear to spread more fear...

Reports Australian universities have accepted funding from CETC are extremely disturbing, given the company’s role in the tech that is oppressing Uyghurs in China. That Aus research may have contributed to profiling Uyghurs is equally distressing #auspol

abc.net.au/news/2019-07-1…
Universities must now review their existing partnerships and their research ethics process to ensure their work does not contribute to global oppression and abuses of human rights.

This is a clear failure of the ethics process and universities’ responsibility to the common good.
Universities accepting funding from any military organisation that aims to develop the tools of war and oppression is ethically compromising. Our universities should reject this collaboration, funding and the military-industrial influence that comes with it.

1. Explaining Saudi Arabia’s DEPLORABLE laws against women in religious/cultural terms pathologises Muslims. Yes patriarchy, deformed and wacky interpretations of Islam, but make an effort to understand who created the problem in the first place, and why.
2. 'The West’ cries croc tears about the treatment of Saudi women. Honestly, they could care less. The Wahabi fringe sect survived because of an alliance with the Al Sa’ud family and the British, later the US (FDR’s infamous meeting w/ Saudi King in '45).
3. Kingdom of Saudi was established as an artificial state invented by colonial forces to serve the interests of Western imperialism especially when it came to oil.
