The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission passed its final maps last night, unanimously. Given that prior cycles had unfortunately ended in partisan accusations, a unanimous vote is a huge success! And, our grades suggest they are good maps too!
First up, AZ's Congressional Map. It gets an A overall and in Partisan Fairness, and Cs in Competitiveness and Geography.
We'd expect it to elect a 5D-4R delegation, though AZ-1, 6 and 8 are all competitive, with AZ-2 and 4 nearly competitive.

The 2020 election saw record turnout despite a deadly pandemic, thanks to increased access to absentee voting. In response, some Arizona lawmakers have introduced a slew of bills that could make it harder for citizens to exercise their right to vote. americanoversight.org/investigation/…
These efforts include many restrictions on early and absentee voting. For example, SB 1069 would purge names of people who don’t vote frequently from the state’s permanent early voting list, which determines who automatically receives a ballot by mail.

The Navajo Nation and Hopi Reservation are extreme food deserts with only 9 grocery stores on Navajo to serve some 180,000 people and only 1 grocery store on Hopi to serve some 3,000 people.
These communities also have high numbers of elderly, diabetic, and cancer-afflicted (i.e., high risk) individuals. These communities could be devastated by coronavirus and COVID-19.
