That's what we wanted to find out in our latest multi-year study. Here's a breakdown of what we found so far. Image

12 years ago today, the #AffordableCareAct was signed into law.

It allowed more than 30 million Americans to gain health coverage — thanks to the efforts of Democrats and the 10 Republican governors who expanded Medicaid in their states.
Unfortunately, Georgia's current governor is depriving 500,000 people access to Medicaid under the ACA.
Failure to expand Medicaid raises costs across the board and leaves 60,000+ Georgia jobs on the table.

Georgians pay for the program, but 38 other states see all the benefit.

Twelve years ago, when President Obama signed the #AffordableCareAct into law, our nation took an historic step toward fulfilling a fundamental promise: that health care is a right, not a privilege.
Today, our nation celebrates this landmark law’s essential role in safeguarding Americans’ health and preserving families’ hard-earned savings through quality, affordable insurance.
The Affordable Care Act stands alongside Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as a pillar of health and financial security – especially for the 130 million Americans living with pre-existing conditions, who now enjoy life-saving protections.

Today's the day the Supreme Court hears arguments in the case challenging Obamacare.

Here's a 15 minute primer👇
The case will be a test for the court's newly strengthened conservative majority and it could produce a decision that wipes out health insurance for 20 million people and protections for millions with preexisting conditions, which now includes #Covid19.
But Roberts & Kavanaugh have expressed reluctance to toss out an entire statute just because one part is unconstitutional, @GregStohr reports

Overturning the #AffordableCareAct remains a central plank of the Republican Party (invisible) platform. The difference in values between the two parties on this life-or-death issue could not be more stark. 2/11 #DemPartyPlatform #healthcare Image
The pandemic has made this difference in values painfully, brutally clear. Pres Trump has repeatedly downplayed the threat of the coronavirus, bullied governors for enacting life-saving public health measures, &left our frontline health care heroes w/o the equipment they need 3/11 Image

The Number of People WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE Has Gone Up Under Trump

The number of people without insurance in the #US rose from 28.6 million, or 8.9% of the population, in 2018 to 29.6 million, 9.2% of people, in 2019

#MOG motherjones.com/politics/2020/…
The uninsured rate among the non-elderly population STARTED FALLING in 2010 (#Obama) after the #ACA was enacted, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, but it started to tick back up in 2016 (#Trump)...

#AffordableCareAct = emphasis on AFFORDABLE

#TrumpNoCare = NADA

#MOG
The increased uninsurance rates correlate with President #Trump’s promotion of short-term “junk insurance” plans and the repeal of the individual mandate, which required people to pay a penalty if they weren’t insured.

#HealthCare under #Trump is #TrumpNoCare

Good evening, #Resistance! Throughout this week, I’ve tried to offer something political to talk about that isn’t filled with fear-mongering, flat-out lies & Russian propaganda. I’ve tried to talk strategically about every way we can increase turnout & maximize the
margin by which @JoeBiden will defeat Donald Trump. But if we need anymore reminding of just what kind of moment this election, I want you to help remind someone you know just what it is they’re thinking of voting for. Right now, there are many people throughout the #Resistance

Last week @realDonaldTrump boasted, as he has repeatedly since 2017, that “we got rid of the individual mandate” so that “you don’t have [to] buy health insurance." In the pending #AffordableCareAct case, however, Texas & Trump's DOJ (presumably) will argue that in 2017 ... /1
... Trump & the GOP Congress *imposed* a legal mandate to maintain ACA-compliant insurance. Indeed, their argument that the Court should declare the whole ACA invalid *depends upon* the idea that Trump imposed a mandate, in flat disregard of the SCOTUS's ruling in NFIB. /2
In this instance, Trump is right: In 2017 he and Congress did the opposite of imposing a mandate to buy ACA-compliant insurance. (Will his own SG actually insist otherwise?) Indeed, the SCOTUS has rarely if ever confronted an easier question of statutory interpretation. /3

Ten years ago today, President @BarackObama signed the #AffordableCareAct—which has saved countless lives nationwide, and left us better equipped to care for District residents during the #CoronavirusCrisis.
The #ACA guaranteed protections for 135 million Americans with pre-existing conditions, and extended coverage to 20 million Americans—including 100,000 in the District, giving DC a record-low uninsured rate.
That’s why our office has gone to court to stop this administration from rolling back #ACA protections, and it’s why I won’t back down from the fight to #ProtectOurCare. Image

THREAD: Over the past 10 years, the #AffordableCareAct has helped millions of working families, seniors and people with disabilities. Yet the Trump Admin is trying to sabotage the #ACA – in the middle of a pandemic. Here’s what’s at stake if Republicans refuse to #DropTheLawsuit:
More than 20 million Americans gained health care coverage under the ACA, both private insurance and through Medicaid expansion. This cut the uninsured rate nearly in half. The last thing we should be doing amid a public health crisis is ripping away health care coverage. /2
The ACA implemented protections for over 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions – one of the groups most likely to develop severe complications from #COVID19. Health insurers could otherwise discriminate against or refuse coverage for these Americans. /3

10 years ago, President @BarackObama signed the #AffordableCareAct into law.

In its first 2 years, the uninsured rate among nonelderly veterans dropped by 40 percent.

As #COVID19 continues to spread, we need to make sure all veterans can access the healthcare they need.
For more info on how #COVID19 impacts veterans and what the Committee is doing to make sure @DeptVetAffairs is ready to care for those with COVID-19, visit our resource page.

In the meantime, here's how you can help prevent the spread of #COVID19 (per @CDCgov):

🧼Wash your hands for 20 seconds
🏡Practice #SocialDistancing
😷Avoid close contact with people who are sick
🖐️Avoid touching your eyes, nose, & mouth
🧻Cover your cough or sneeze w/ a tissue

Ten years ago today, President Obama signed the #AffordableCareAct into law.

Let’s take a moment to think about how the comprehensive, quality health coverage provided by the #ACA is helping us combat the coronavirus.
Without the #ACA, health insurers could discriminate against or even refuse coverage to nearly 133 million Americans with pre-existing conditions - one of the groups most likely to develop severe symptoms of the coronavirus.
Without the #ACA, 20 million people who gained quality, comprehensive health insurance would be uninsured. If they contracted the coronavirus and required treatment, multiple doctor’s visits, or even hospitalization, they may be stuck with staggering out of pocket costs.

Couldn't agree more w/ @SpeakerPelosi that the House managers have been "magnificent custodians of the Constitution" against Trump's lawlessness.

@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff @RepJerryNadler @RepZoeLofgren @RepJeffries @RepValDemings @RepJasonCrow @RepSylviaGarcia As they're suing to kill the #AffordableCareAct that protects 130M w/ preexisting conditions & covers 20M, Republicans are now attacking #Medicaid – a vital program that covers 1 in 5 in America.

Because their efforts to dismantle our Constitution weren't enough for the week!?!
@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff @RepJerryNadler @RepZoeLofgren @RepJeffries @RepValDemings @RepJasonCrow @RepSylviaGarcia Surprise! Surprise! Trying to snatch health care from people is unpopular, 56-35!

Didn't we learn that in 2018 when Dems took the House on the strength of #MadamSpeaker's #ForThePeople agenda which centered on the promise to #ProtectOurCare?

We'll win the 2020 rematch too!🇺🇸🌊

As disability advocates, it is important to protect access to mental health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as ObamaCare. Threats to repeal all or part of the ACA are real and challenges continue to be filed in courts along with
the introduction of new legislation.

We can't forget that before the Affordable Care Act was law, access to mental health care coverage in insurance was lacking. Mental health was considered a pre-existing condition.

.@senatemajldr and his Republican colleagues claim to support coverage for pre-existing conditions. Today, we’re offering a Senate resolution to give Republicans a chance to prove it. Mitch McConnell should put it to a vote.
Here's what's at stake if the Republicans succeed in their campaign of sabotage against the #AffordableCareAct: millions of seniors will pay more for prescription drugs, coverage for pre-existing conditions will be slashed & low-cost preventative care will be a thing of the past.
