Thread: The Horrific Killing of Ehsan Jafri in the #GulbargMassacre
On 28 February 2002 Ehsan Jafri was gruesomely murdered by a feverish mob. Slaughtered along with him were around seventy women, children and men who had taken shelter with the man....
...whom they had believed was influential enough to save their lives from a colossal armed mob baying for blood.
But he was dragged away by the horde, his limbs were cut off from his body before he was burned. His family could not even locate his remains.
He was a renowned poet, labor leader and politician who was killed in infamous #Gulbarg Society massacre in Gujarat 2002 riots. #Modi, then the CM of Gujarat, was accused of doing little to stop the anti-Muslim riots -an allegation he has always denied.

One such society is Gala Gardenia in South Bopal in #ahmedabad which runs a community fridge to help the hungry.

Residents drop off their surplus food, fruits, vegetables and groceries in the fridge for the needy to pick it up.
"By now, the construction workers in the area know about the fridge in our society. Most of them approach the security guard and get the food packets collected. We have also started storing cold water bottles for the needy", says a resident.

It’s 4.00 am right now and I just came back to Ahmedabad from Kolkata after having a wonderful and memorable trip with my friends. However the joy was short lived as I was stopped by a PCR van near Shyamal Cross Roads (1/n)

#ahmedabad #police #ahmedabadpolice #gujarat
They first asked me if my bags were checked by police at the previous stoppages, to which I said no because I wasn’t! Most of us know what do they search for when you get out at night. It has to be liquor, always. (2/n)
It’s their duty and I don’t mind being checked or cooperating when it comes to following rules. However in this case I told them that I am not carrying anything because I am coming from a domestic trip and I know the rules. (3/n)

During my 21,000 kms walk, I clicked these two pictures randomly in two different cities and interestingly around the same time of two different days.

The first picture I clicked in Vellore when I was crossing a bridge and found it this clean.

When I was in Ahmedabad few weeks
ago I saw this bridge and due to its condition I clicked it.

Now, if you see in terms of GDP, Literacy, Population, Income, Ranking etc Ahmedabad leads in comparison with Vellore.

But literacy is completely different from education, people in south are more “educated”
as they understand the value of public property.

Their educated mind gives them sense of ownership and make them more responsible towards public property.

That’s why you will find roads, toilets, Schools, Building, lot more cleaner anywhere in southern states.

🪡 While upholding the findings of the Special Investigation Team that gave a clean chit to @narendramodi in the #ZakiaJafri case, SC added that SIT had “come out with flying colours”.

Q: When exactly did Modi learn of the massacre on 28 Feb 2002—and how well did SIT quiz him?
2️⃣ In his reply to SIT in 2010, Modi claimed he learnt of the #GulbergSociety massacre only at a meeting that evening, at 8.30 pm.

Really?

While a mob of thousands attacked a Muslim pocket in #Ahmedabad, the CM—who *also* held the home portfolio—was unaware for 5 full hours?
3️⃣ The implausibility of Modi’s defence is brought out by former @IndianExpress and @timesofindia legal affairs editor Manoj Mitta.

In his 2014 book, ‘The Fiction of Fact-Finding: Modi and Godhra’, Mitta reveals how #SIT bought into Modi’s claim with barely any challenge.

It was a Hindu-Muslim love story that leapt out of the flames of the #GujaratRiots of 2002 in #Ahmedabad's Naroda Patiya. It then went through the usual tortuous turns, so typically Indian, and the next two years saw the couple fight tough battles and go through waves of pain.

3. Even as the Muslim girl was illegally held at a home for the destitute despite turning 18, the authorities and police in #Ahmedabad had remained undecided about who should start her release procedure. #Gujarat #GujaratRiots #2002riots

27-02-2002: It broke out like an epidemic of viral flu. We may have been through several such epidemics, but nothing prepares us for the slaughter of men, women, children and even domestic animals. Never forget that the history of the human race is cruel. Watch this space...
I spent seven years (1998-2005) working as #Gujarat correspondent of @TheWeekLive. The pieces I'm posting here were written mostly in 2002 and chronicle the sequential turn of events, as I witnessed them that fateful year, beginning from where it all begun theweek.in/webworld/featu…

The 7-Day Moving Growth Rate
-#Mumbai: < 2% for over 4 weeks, city ready phase 4?

-#Delhi & #Ahmedabad: <2% for 2 weeks.Phase 2 or 3?

-#Bengaluru, #Chennai & #Kolkata: little over 2% Phase 1?

Phases 1-4:

1ofN
Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is increasing.
Why?
CFR= # Deaths / # Positive cases
- ↑ in numerator: Poor detection and treatment --> higher deaths
- Low Denominator ↓: Under-reporting of COVID Cases due to poor testing.

Higher the CFR in the city, poorer the TTT strategy.

2ofN
The review of positive Cases, active Cases, and death moving growth rate in juxtaposition will give wholistic view on the situation.
#Bengaluru & #Delhi have some work to do.
