1/2 A growing number of folks realize that California is where they get their produce from & it's been slammed by forest fires, floods, etc. so they are going to grow their own veggies this year and escape the high prices in the grocery chain stores.
2/2 An estimated two-thirds of all produce consumed in Canada is imported from the U.S. accounting for approximately 37% of Canada's fresh fruit imports in 2021. California exported $4.8 Billion to Canada, including: $1.7B in fruits and nuts & $203M in vegetables and roots.
I live on a Gulf Island where the best weather conditions found in Canada are found so I purchase FRESH produce from organic farmers at farm gates and at Farmer's Markets twice weekly. Hubby also grows some of our veggies.
Are you now or will you be growing your own produce?

If you're eligible for the #BCclimateactiontaxcredit, you'll receive the credit payment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The credit payment is combined with the federal goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit into one quarterly payment.
#BCclimateactiontaxcredit payments are issued four times a year in July, October, and January usually on the fifth day of the month. The B.C. climate action tax credit payments are non-taxable so you don't include it as income when you file your income tax return.
If your adjusted family net income is above the threshold amount, the #BCclimateactiontaxcredit is reduced by 2% of the adjusted family net income above the threshold until the credit becomes zero. See here for specifics and details on the

🚨 NEW CARBON TAXES INCOMING 🚨

A LOT of countries have been making noises about introducing new or reformed carbon taxes 💷 of late. Including...THREAD. 1/6.
AUSTRIA

Starting July 1, Austrians will pay a new #carbontax of 30 euros (approximately $33) per ton of CO2 — a cost that’s likely to be added to consumer bills by companies. That amounts to 55 euros ($60) per ton in 2025. 2/6.

THE USA

According to the @WSJ, the American Petroleum Institute has drafted a proposal urging #Congress to adopt a carbon tax. The proposal suggests rebating some of the revenue collected to households & investing the rest of the money in new tech. 3/6.

My carbon tax on fuel and electricity and propane last month was $1078! Care to comment, how much I get back? If the rebates put money back…then why take it out of our pockets in the first place? Cancel the carbon tax! Your a fraud ! Your green crap is bullshit @s_guilbeault
First of all, your carbon taxes will not make a difference in Canada's ~1.5% CO2 of the global total.
To pay all Skippys buds a raise on April 1st he introduces a carbon tax increase to offset the expenditure. Just like that “ the budget will balance itself”. @s_guilbeault
Green Jesus here says that 8 out of 10 taxpayers make money off his green weird hard on! BS baffles brains?
I added all my carbon tax receipts up last year and the refund comes no where near to what I paid in #carbontax , so stop spreading that lie.

Good that #SaudiArabia & #UAE have pledged #NetZero but #GCC total domestic emissions are only 2.4% of world’s. The #EU needs to focus on the emissions they export, mostly to #China, I argue how: bit.ly/2XOK8bG 2/

This was what I worried would happen with @Booker4KY. Not be on the offensive with @RandPaul, who's an abysmal, but only on the defensive when need to. Just like the @KyDems always do, which is a losing strategy. But Booker's running on policies that are materially popular!!!
Here's a fun fact about running in an election... If you run as an Aggressive & Offensive Candidate with Policies that help the People & their Material Well-being, then you win.
Here's how I know; In the 2015 Midterms, @AlanGrayson of the @FlaDems, he won with no problem. He was unapologetic when being a "#Progressive", stands up with his Principles & goes for the Jugular in Political Ads at his Opponents on how their Policies are Wrong, Evil & Bad &...

Another heatwave grips Washington, Oregon & British Columbia. Climate change - long predicted + denied - is here.

We know it's time to transition off fossil fuels.

And, all year, @invw's Decarbonizing #Cascadia series is exploring how we can. invw.org/getting-to-zer…
We launched in January explaining how a region w/ official goals to slash emissions and the means to do it just keeps getting dirtier. @invw analyzed the latest data, showing that Washington, Oregon and BC's emissions rose by 5, 6 and 7% b/w 2013 & 2018.

We also profiled #Cascadia's activists, such as the @youthvgov litigants suing govts for the right to a livable future and campaigners eroding Big Oil, Gas and Coal's political power. @robertmcclure showed how activists bottled up fossil export proposals. invw.org/2021/01/18/a-t…

@ClimateHawkVote is running a survey asking our folk, among other things, their climate bill wish list. Listed 12 things including carbon price/ tax/ fee and dividend.

Survey bit.ly/3kJKF7M
@ClimateHawkVote and I peeked at early results (survey is still active). And support for a #carbontax has, to be blunt, fallen off a cliff.

Or, nosedived like a peregrine falcon.
@ClimateHawkVote A #carbontax is second to last in things climate hawks want to see in a federal climate bill.

Among 11 policies + other, it ranked 10th.

New paper from Harvard comparing different electric sector policies: Robust Decarbonization of the US Power Sector.

Big winners: Clean Electricity Standard (CES), Tradeable performance Standard (TPS), and a #CarbonTax. Let's compare. (1/10) scholar.harvard.edu/stock/publicat…
A hybrid CES with $40/mWh Alternative Compliance Payment gives solid results across all scenarios (fuel prices, demand levels, etc.). Hybrid means that natural gas gets partial credit which favors it over coal. This is modeled after the CLEAN Futures Act. (2/10)
The Tradeable performance Standard (TPS) also does quite well. This is based off of the Clean Power Plan and is essentially an emissions-based cap and trade for the electricity sector. (3/10)

Here's how the recent Canadian Supreme Court ruling and$170/t #carbontax mandate likely becomes a de-facto nationalization of the CDN oilpatch, not unlike the much reviled NEP program of the 1980s. #abpoli #cdnpoli #EFT (1/15)
ft.com/content/077ba8…
Now, if a federal politician advocated outright nationalizing an industry, the repercussions for investors, creditors, FX would be dire across the country - think Argentina & YPF and the experience of other Central American socialist regimes. (2/15)
The #carbontax is effectively a back-door mechanism to do just this, letting the federal government pluck the golden goose, without ruffling as many feathers. But first a little history …. (3/15)

Short Thread on Canada's New Carbon Tax: 🇨🇦

1- Most of the reduction in the emissions in Europe since late 1980s happened because they shifted them to China & other countries as energy intensive factories & others moved out of Europe.
#Canada #climatechange #oil #OOTT
2- The impact of renewable energy is small. If ALL EU countries switch ALL their cars to #Electricvehciles, assuming ALL electricity comes from solar & wind, they can reduce global emissions by only 2%.
3- European politicians are going to claim great success and show large decline in emissions to justify their massive spending on subsidies to support solar and wind. Although most of it was caused by factories leaving to China. #China #emissions
