We all know about how Railways went around converting all the toilet into bio-toilets. Not a very sexy topic but an important topic as how Railways contribute to #SwachhBharat

In the above photo, respected Dr Sekhar Krishnamurthy is standing before the train. He is from DRDO and what is he doing here. This is a perfect example of cross pollination of #competencies

His worked in the Defence Establishment to develop clean toilets for our forces at borders at thousands of Metres altitude. He also developed these toilets, now installed in all the trains 🚞 2.59 lakhs total

The Chemistry of Corona drug developed by DRDO is said to be a big game changer. It is 2-Deoxy-D+Glucose (2-DG) which is likely to be marketed very soon.

The hero behind this discovery is said to be Dr Anil Kumar Mishra who hails from Balia (UP), obtained his MSc (Chemsitry) degree from Gorakhpur University in 1984 & PhD in 1988 from Banaras Hindu University. His research is based on Molecular Biology & Organic synthesis.

2/

After doing post doctoral research, he has worked as visiting Professor in different countries like France, California (USA) & Max Plank, Germany.

He joined DRDO as Sr Scientist in 1997.

2-DG is a mimic of D-Glucose prepared by replacing -OH group at C2 by H-atom.

#2deoxy2glucose is basically glucose molecule in wich 2-hydroxyl group replaced by hydrogen, so that it cannot undergo further glycolysis (which is the metabolic pathway that converts glucose to pyruvate and a hydrogen ion, during which, the free energy released in process...

3...is used to form high-energy molecules such as ATP or NADH that helps in various cell functions). So basically, by using 2DG, the normal glycolysis doesnt happen and cell functions get blocked. This is the reason it is used for cancers

The COVID facility with all oxygen beds, a large number of ventilators and air-conditioning is set up by DRDO complying with the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards.

If a patient suffers a neuro or cardiac case then the patient will be referred to the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The government’s plan for a radical overhaul of the Ordnance Factory Board #OFB by corporatizing it has gained pace.

The Indian Military has raised several concerns over the current functioning of the organisation, with a major worry being #OFB’s inability to absorb technology developed by the #DRDO, unlike other defence public sector units #PSU's have been able to achieve.

The defence ministry is in the process of finalizing a leading consulting firm from, KPMG, Deloitte and EY to draw up a roadmap for corporatisation of 41 #OFB factories.

#DRDO has granted permission to survey feasibility of the underground road from Panchavati ( Pashan ) to S.B. Road and Paud Road. This approval will give impetus to the work of the new proposed route that is much needed as a long term solution to traffic movement in Shivajinagar

I had conducted an extensive meeting with Senior officials of the #DRDO last week, and urged them to expedite granting of permission for the survey. I thank all the officials of DRDO for this approval which will give a major boost to feasibility study of the new proposed road.

In a review meeting held today under the chairmanship of DyCM @AjitPawarSpeaks ji, all officials were instructed to immediately begin the survey and feasibility study of the much needed underground road from Panchavati ( Pashan ) to S.B. Road and Paud Road
