On this 33rd anniversary of the #VelvetRevolution - we reclaim our revolution, our democracy, our freedom, and our friends.
His Holiness @DalaiLama was the first foreign leader and friend President #Havel welcomed.

Mr. Havel didn't befriend him because of his military or economy. He befriended a leader who fled his home, who was not recognized by the world, and whose people faced annihilation.
President #Havel sought alliance and friendship with one who yearned to be free - who believed that truth and love must prevail over lies and hatred in the face of naked aggression and brutal repression.

#HongKongers need the same friendship from you - the Czech people - today.

Just now: A Mandarin-speaking man attacked a Hong Kong student at @Cornell for putting up posters supporting freedom of #HongKong and #Uyghurs. This man's action & any kind of Chinese aggression against #Hongkongers should never be acceptable. Here's what happened:
Around 18:30, as a Cornell student was putting "#FreeHongKong" & "#FreeUyghurs" posters up in Ithanca Commons near Cornell, a man approached to threaten him in Mandarin. The student immediately recorded the scene with his phone. (2/) @SPEAL_Cornell
The man then pushed him to the ground and tried to snatch his phone away, leaving wounds on his hand. The assault only ended as another passerby interrupted. (3/) @SPEAL_Cornell @students4hk Image

Let’s cut the BS - Punjab is facing annihilation.

Not from the Hindoos, not from Godi media, not from the chaiwala, not from Gujarati kutte Ambani Adani, not from non-Jats.

But from a depleted water table caused by the current farming methods & incentives.
Punjab faces annihilation via desertification.

The images below show the dire need of reform in Punjab & the adjacent areas - yes the areas where protests are massively derived from.

Unequal MSP allotment and addiction will destroy the land if things remain.
But wait, what if we just double down on MSP to higher rates or to all crops?

Good luck with the inflation that will whiplash to the common man as the gov rots in a massive deficit.

& the water table will get worse, furthering the speed of annihilation of a beautiful Punjab.

【My speech at Frankfurt Book Fair —— Joshua Wong als Gast auf der ARD-Buchmessenbühne】

Full speech: patreon.com/posts/43059474

1/ I recalled in last year a high-level official from a European country had openly said they don’t want to ‘’interfere in other people's issues"...
2/ ...despite the fact that companies of that country played a part in the brutality of Hong Kong police by supplying police vehicles. It is a typical display of the not-in-my-backyard mentality. However, we are living in a connected world. HK can serve as a story to learn from.
3/ We were unaware of the Chinese regime's intention to gain influence and control over our economy in the early years. And our economy now is to some extent too reliant on China, which makes our battle for freedom and democracy harder.

2/5 One viral photo after another, we hail young protestors as fearless agents of change. We applaud, reshare, retweet. But this characterisation cannot be further from the truth.

3/5 Contexts are different, but the scenes have started to blend together. Of being brutally beaten up, jailed, raped in detention, murdered, or of a criminal record that strips away all future opportunities. The young aren't fearless, they are terrified. Image

This thread is for direct support for the people of HK and their right to autonomy, freedom of speech and rule of law. #FreeHongKong
I didn’t know much about the situation in HK or how nefarious the CCP was in HK. Nor did I know that it was so grave that #POTUS made an Executive Order AND took steps to BLOCK assets of foreign persons who have had a role in destroying HK autonomy. Sounded very serious.

Adoption thread.
15 years ago I was sitting at a baby shower and got the call we had been matched to our daughter. China chooses the child for you. You have no input. I had to race home and wait for the computer to pull up her image to see her. Jaing
Xiao Liao was her name.
It took us until Sept 26 to finally meet her. She was in an orphanage in Guangxi which is in a tropical area of China. By Vietnam.
The orphanages are combined with the nursing homes there.
The day we got her she was very sick. We had to have the Dr come to hotel that night. She had pneumonia. We had brought antibiotics with us from our pediatrician in Colorado and thank goodness. They wanted us to give her tea “she not western baby. She can’t have western medicine”

Last week #POTUS signed an Executive Order on Hong Kong Normalization.

whitehouse.gov/presidential-a…
#POTUS declared a national emergency to the threat of the people of Hong Kong and their treatment by the PRC to destroy Hong Kong’s autonomy, freedom of speech and rule of law.
In the Executive Order, Section 4, #POTUS lays out some pretty clear instructions as to what is going to happen to assets of those who are meddling in Hong Kong’s right as a nation. BLOCKED.

[Is NBA sacrificing our free speech and kowtowing to #China again?]

1. Immediately after blocking #FreeHongKong to be printed on its custom gear, #NBA just once again kowtowed to #China by pulling the whole custom gear section from its store.

foxnews.com/sports/nba-pul…
2. Nothing could be more absurd when NBA accused it as "violent, abusive and hateful messages” in its explanation.

3. Just another controversial incident after Daryl Morey’s tweet supporting #Hongkongprotests last year, the #Freehongkong uproar is sounding alarm bells about NBA’s dedication to stand up against #Beijing’s political pressure and uphold the liberal values that we all embrace. Image

🚨 I've decided to put together a THREAD of prominent voices for #HongKong from around the word. Start with U.S. politicians. Note how @RepGregSteube is saying (as I read it) the newly-revealed #HK #NationalSecurityLaw will "threaten democracy around the world." 👇👇👇
[2/n] @HawleyMO: "Question now is whether Beijing will use this as a pretext to jail pro-democracy leaders."
[3/n] @RepJimBanks highlights how the #HongKong #NationalSecurityLaw "prohibits 'collusion' w/ foreign govs or institutions, which could target those who've lobbied the U.S. Congress for sanctions."

Fair disclosure: In the 90s I was a "welcomer" for #HongKong students at my uni. Overtly we were 🇨🇦 peer mentors. Really we were defending 🇭🇰 students whom the #Chinese & #Communists clubs targeted for #psychological #Terrorism with #Tiananmen gutter-burger pics & rape threats.
As always, I do my best to withhold my politics while teaching - you can construct your own narrative by critical thinking or you wouldn't bother to engage & educate yourselves about espionage - its methods & manifestations; its history & historiography; its fact & fantasies. Yet

Here's the most important part of @realDonaldTrump speech on #HongKong and #China:

"China claims it is protecting national security. But the truth is Hong Kong was secrure and prosperous as a free society. Beijing decision reverses all of that.
It extends the reach of Chinas invasive state secutiry apparatus into what was formerly a bastion of liberty. Chinas latest incursion along with other recent developments that degraded the territories freedoms makes clear that HK is no longer sufficiently autonomous to warrant...
the special freedoms that we have afforded the territory since the handover. China has replaced its promised formula of 1C2S to 1C1S. Therefore I am directing my administration to begin the process of eliminating policy exemptions that give HK different and special treatments.

When thousands of #HKers queued for masks overnight, #HKGov still refused to take measures to stabilize supply and price amid #coronavirus. To combat citywide shortage and price-gouging, @demosisto has just bought another 1,200,000 masks and shipped to #HK. ImageImage
Imported from Honduras, all these masks will be delivered to underprivileged sectors through pro-democracy district councillors. As the procurement costs millions of HK dollars this time, the fund was raised among several pro-democracy parties.
Once again, we express our sincere gratitude to @hkdc_us, @NY4HK and overseas #HongKonger Lady A. It well demonstrates that the international network is the only way to rescue us from this deadly epidemic.

#China's total exports in 2018 were $2.65 trillion, of which approximately $477 billion went to the #USA, $441 billion went to the #EU, and $157 billion to #Japan. Add #SouthKorea and #India, and that is over 50% of Chinese exports.
China's strong economy depends on the good will of a handful of governments. Gradually increasing tariffs (or economic sanctions) on Chinese imports in these and other like-minded countries and the EU, if linked to demands for: 1) human rights improvements in #HongKong, ...
... #Xinjiang, and #Tibet; 2) military deescalation in the #SouthChinaSea and #EastChinaSea, the #Korea n peninsula, and #ArunachalPradesh; 3) progression down a truly democratic path for all of China; 4) improved conditions in China for global business; and ...

Some amazing cosplayers got together to show support for Hong Kong after the Blizzard controversy. For those who didn’t know, Blizzard banned pro Hearthstone winner for supporting Hong Kong and took away his prize money. ImageImage
So many American companies, Blizzard, NBA, Hollywood, and countless more and censoring free speech in fear of angering China and losing out on Chinese money. It’s ironic when Blizzard’s slogan is “Every Voice Matters” and their games features heros fighting for justice. ImageImage
Let’s show them such hypocrisy won’t be tolerated!

Meanwhile the people of Hong Kong are fighting hard for their own freedom and democracy against the totalitarian regime of China. ImageImage
