LIVE: Media briefing on #COVID19 and other global health issues with @DrTedros twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

We are in the third wave of #Covid. Community spread of #Omicron is given. Cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are hot spots.

What works and what does not.
A thread of 10 points

1. It is clear that Omicron escapes Immunity acquired through #Vaccines and Previous Infection
2. Most cases of Omicron have mild infection, milder compared to Delta. This however doesn't mean that it will be mild in all cases. Some would become severe and need hospitalisation. Don't be stupid by buying into 'mild' theory
3. A lot of people are asymptomatic. So should you get tested for mild or no symptoms? Yes. Because only then you would isolate yourself and protect others. Also, better to detect it early and monitor rather than be caught off guard when saturation drops.

Interim public health considerations for the provision of additional #COVID19 vaccine doses.

Read full report here: bit.ly/ECDCBoosterDoc Image
Providing all eligible individuals with the recommended dose regimen should remain the current
priority for #COVID19 vaccination programmes in the EU/EEA.

All vaccines authorised in the EU/EEA are highly protective against COVID19 related hospitalisation, severe disease & death. Image
Administering an additional vaccine dose to people who may experience a limited response to the primary #COVID19 vaccination, such as some categories
of immunocompromised individuals, should already be considered now.

Hoy celebramos el Día Mundial de la Higiene de Manos, la medida más sencilla, efectiva, económica y potente para prevenir todo tipo de infecciones

#HigieneDeManos 🤲 #HandHygiene👌 #WashYourHands🤜🤛 Image
El lema no es exagerado, lavar las manos adecuadamente durante unos pocos segundos puede salvar tu vida y la de las personas que tienes a tu alrededor, aún más si eres sanitario, o hay personas vulnerables en tu entorno

#HigieneDeManos 🤲 #HandHygiene👌 #WashYourHands🤜🤛 Image
Eso sí, para que funcione esta "magia", es importante hacer una higiene correcta, con frecuencia olvidamos buena parte de las superficies más críticas de la piel de nuestras manos, que pueden seguir contaminadas
