The Indian #telecom landscape is heating up once again with the #5GSpectrum auctions just a week away. But, there’s a quiet battle for subscribers going on in the background and #Airtel seems to be taking the lead for the year.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (@TRAI) subscriber data, #Airtel has added a little over 6.4 million subscribers in 2022 (until May), while its rivals #RelianceJio and #VodafoneIdea have both lost nearly 7 million each.

Recently #SunilMittal of #Airtel was ruing the possibility that India may end up with just 2 mobile operators from a dozen earlier. Forget the govt scam, he needs to remember that each of them contributed to this situation with idiotic policies. Let me share for his education.

In the beginning we customers could connect to whichever operator had good network in a place by paying a higher roaming/interconnection charge. This meant that everybody did not have to invest in infra everywhere & instead could have invested the money to expand coverage, speed

connectivity etc. But no they stopped that & if they had a poor infra in a place they invested money duplicating infra. Then they personally invested in these infra & rented them to their own companies & they individually got richer & RICHER while the company's became poorer.

My big mistake porting my mobile number from BSNL (another Jio success story in turning a great public facility to dust) to Reliance Jio network. @reliancejio @reliancegroup #Jio 1/n

I got an SMS on a Saturday afternoon before an extended weekend informing me that there was small unbilled amount with my previous service provider BSNL & hence Jio is disconnecting my services. Immediately my phone lost signal & network. Not even SMS or OTP possible 2/n

Although my credit card and debit card are blocked due to the OTP block, I managed to pay dues to BSNL.
When you follow the link in the SMS to update payment details, it asks you for an OTP (which of course you can't get because SMS is blocked
You need OTP to activate OTP! 3/n
