In many campaigns, sometimes there is an endorsement that serves as a finishing move. Today, the former mayor of Palm Beach County (!), a Democrat, endorsed #FLGov Ron DeSantis. #flsen #sayfie
It's hard to believe a South Florida Democrat who once served the tony liberal communities of Palm Beach et al. would endorse Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Palm Beach Co. is one of the three big South Florida Democratic counties. (2)
To be fair, Palm Beach is probably the least Democratic county of South Florida. It has a lot of Republicans, as does Miami-Dade. Joe Biden beat Trump by less than 100K in Palm Beach in 2020. (3)

Republicans in the Kansas state Senate have voted to override #KSGov Laura Kelly's veto of the new congressional map. The map is below and puts #KS03 in play this fall.
The old #KS03 district of Rep. Sharice Davids (D) was Biden +11. The new #KS03 is a more competitive Biden +4

The map isn’t official quite yet—Republicans need to override in the State House, where they have the numbers to. Kansas also has a fairly liberal state court system.

I wrote the thread below on Monday to preview #overlookedelectionstakes: stuff that's way-under-the-radar but so crucial. Now that you've digested the big-picture stuff, time to delve back into all that. In this new thread, I'll review the results of those stakes—& add new ones.
North Carolina: GOP's rumored hope to pack state Supreme Court was thwarted as civil rights attorney Anita Earls ousted Justice Jackson & expanded Dems' majority from 4-3 to 5-2. (Court can only have 2 more seats.) Matters for voting rights litigation. #overlookedelectionstakes
New Hampshire: Safiya Wazir, a one-time refugee, ousted state Rep. Dick Patten in a Dem primary. But Patten attacked Wazir for being an immigrant & a mother, & he endorsed Wazir's GOP opponent. Yesterday, Wazir won. She's heading to the state House. #overlookedelectionstakes

Huge weekend for Democratic gubernatorial candidates getting major newspaper endorsements. (THREAD WARNING)
In #iagov, @FredHubbell got endorsed by the 2 largest papers in Iowa on Sunday.

1. @DMRegister: "He is perhaps the most qualified person in decades to seek Iowa’s governorship"

2. @gazettedotcom: "Hubbell is the best choice to dramatically change course at the Statehouse."
In #FLGov, Andrew Gillum got the endorsement of the @orlandosentinel and the @MiamiHerald. He's now been endorsed by the 4 biggest newspapers in Florida.

Sentinel: "His platform is geared toward the middle class"

Herald: "The best candidate to pull Florida back to the center"

I so old I remember when the president’s focus in the run-up to elections was to encourage voting, not discourage it.
I’m*
The actual information presented about efforts to influence US elections has been of Russian interests attempting to meddle with the midterms, not voter fraud. Regardless, Trump’s focus is on demonizing immigrants — like always — by focusing on the rare happening of voter fraud.

Kobach cites FAIR report saying KS spends $377M public benefits on illegal immigrants. 1/2 of that is public schooling for immigrant children. If elected, would Kobach try to challenge US Supreme Court that ensures education for children regardless of status? #ksleg #ksed #ksgov
Look at what Kobach did in Alabama in 2011. Kobach wrote and pushed for HB 56 in Alabama, a bill that critics say, among many things, tried to intimidate undocumented children from attending school. #ksleg #ksed #ksgov
HB 56 disrupted Alabama schools. Eventually the school provision in that bill was blocked. Will Kobach try the same thing in Kansas? #ksleg #Ksed #ksgov

ICYMI: Our recap ⬇️ #ormanforkansas #ksgov #ksleg
To open, Greg lamented the two decades of decline that has occurred at the hands of Republican AND Democratic administrations:

"Kansas used to be a leader—a place that other states looked to for inspiration. But now we're a cautionary tale, and both parties are to blame."
With 27 years of experience turning businesses around while giving employees the confidence and stability they need to build their best lives, Greg is ready to do the same for Kansas.

I think I'd rather be Colyer than Kobach at this stage in #KSGOV. Down ~850 votes statewide but with the large majority of populous Johnson County left to count, and Colyer is winning there 47-34 so far. nyti.ms/2OkuZUZ
We were debating on the liveblog earlier tonight whether Johnson Co. would be good for Kobach (he's from there) or bad for him (it's affluent and well-educated and not very Trumpy). Looks like the latter theory is the favorite. Still, lots of votes left to count there.
* Maybe not "from" there but launched his career on the Overland Park city council. Anyway, I've spent some time in Johnson Co. and it doesn't seem very Kobach-y to me. But, results are liable to vary a fair bit from town to town and not sure where the vote is in from so far.
