Okay, ready to look at Project Green Gables season 2 in today's #LainaReadsAnne? This season adapts Anne of Avonlea and is the only adaptation that doesn't combine it with the 3rd and/or 4th books. Image
#LainaReadsAnne Episode One is a cute little montage of Anne and co doing summer things. I think we have a Gilbert with a face now!

Diana got a cute haircut, too! Image
#LainaReadsAnne Also I don't want to comment too much on how people look since they were teenagers making it, but I will say.

The actress(/co-writer) playing Diana is the only Diana I've seen so far who is anything but straight-sized.

Okay, are y'all read for a #LainaReadsAnne thread? We're going to be finishing Project Green Gables season one today!!
#LainaReadsAnne Episode 41 starts with Anne saying thanks to people (basically us, the audience) for being cool after the last video where she "came out", though she's not a huge fan of the term in general.
#LainaReadsAnne She says, "I wouldn't even have to come out of a closet, if it wasn't built around me by people who assume me to be straight in the first place."

(Ergo quotes on the term when I normally wouldn't use them.)

Okay, we're all updated so how about we look at episodes 31-40 today in #LainaReadsAnne?
#LainaReadsAnne 31 opens with Diana forcing Anne to tell us "what happened".

Also, Anne is wearing a cute little beanie and again I appreciate the continuity. It's very impressive for a webseries made back then.
#LainaReadsAnne Diana asks what Anne and Gilbert talked about when he drove her home from the bus stop

Anne: "Nothing, actually. It was quite an awkward drive. We sat there for ten minutes in silence and then he started to..."

Okay, are you all ready for the last #LainaReadsAnne chapter for Anne of Avonlea? Chapter thirty is it for this book!

And it's just about wedding time!
#LainaReadsAnne It's the last week of August. Mrs Rachel is moving into Green Gables in a week, and Anne and Gilbert are leaving for Redmond in two weeks.

The Allans are also leaving shortly. Anne feels "a little sadness threading all her excitement and happiness."Aww.
#LainaReadsAnne Mr Harrison says "Changes ain't totally pleasant but they're excellent things" and that two years is about as long as things should stay the same.

He and Emily are getting along well and she has become very good friends with Mrs Rachel, who he still dislikes.

Okay, who's ready for a #LainaReadsAnne thread?

We have just two chapters left and they are my favourite two of the book. The end of this book honestly is just so good. I've read it like four times now.
#LainaReadsAnne Anne spends the next month basically in a blur of activity. Not only does she need to prepare for Redmond, but she's helping to plan Miss Lavendar's wedding! There's a ton to be done, and everyone is very excited.
#LainaReadsAnne Paul is very happy as he already loves Miss Lavendar. He says, "Mrs. Lynde says she thoroughly approves of the match and thinks its likely Miss Lavendar will give up her queer notions and be like other people, now that she’s going to be married."

Okay, #LainaReadsAnne time! Chapter 28 awaits!
#LainaReadsAnne School ends and Anne's pupils miss her before she's even really gone.

Then we get an interesting scene of Mrs Harmon Andrew, Mrs Peter Sloane, and Mrs William Bell discussing Anne's leaving.

I still hate this way of naming people. THEY HAVE FIRST NAMES.
#LainaReadsAnne But you don't see as many scenes without Anne in them, so this is neat.

Mrs Sloane thinks it's a shame Anne's leaving since the kids like her so much, but Mrs Bell i glad for her since she's wanted to go to college so badly.

Okay, are you ready to slam and welcome to the jam?

No, for real, are you ready for chapter twenty-seven of Avonlea for today's #LainaReadsAnne thread? We're nearing the end!!
#LainaReadsAnne This is a chapter featuring a Davy moment where I actually find him kind of hilarious. That might actually be a miracle.
#LainaReadsAnne Anne comes "down to dinner in a new dress of pale green muslin" and it says this is "the first color she had worn since Matthew's death".

The book had only previously mentioned that one "black lawn" dress and then white dresses.

Okay, we have Chapter Twenty-Six of #LainaReadsAnne today!! It's a big one, so grab a snack or a drink. Get your self-care on and all that jazz.
#LainaReadsAnne Thomas Lynde passes away.

In the last chapter, Mrs Rachel had mentioned he'd been doing better the last few days, and that's actually fairly common before someone dies, that they feel a lot better for a short period of time.
#LainaReadsAnne It's not clear, exactly, what Thomas dies from but I kinda get cancer vibes? Just from how slow it was and how nothing really helped.

Okay, let's do a #LainaReadsAnne thread! Today we've got Chapter Twenty-Five to tackle. It's a longer one - get a snack!
#LainaReadsAnne It is June now, about two weeks after the big storm. Anne is sad there are only two narcissus left, as she wanted to bring some to Matthew's grave.

*sniffles*
#LainaReadsAnne Marilla admits she misses them herself, but doesn't want to be all "wah wah my flowers" when so many peoples' crops and fruit trees were destroyed so badly. Fair, tbh.

Okay, I have had a pretty productive morning... oh, it's 3pm. I have had a pretty productive DAY for sleeping like crap last night, so let's tackle Chapter 24 of Avonlea for #LainaReadsAnne. It's a good one today!
#LainaReadsAnne Apparently there have been some "Avonlea Notes" published in the Charlottetown Daily Enterprise, signed only by an individual calling themself "Observer".

Most people in Avonlea figure they're being written by Charlie Sloane.
#LainaReadsAnne They think this especially because one note kinda insults Gilbert and the youth of Avonlea is convinced Charlie Sloane and Gilbert are romantic rivals for Anne's heart.

Okay I think I made my ice coffee a little too strong so while I sit here and shake like a wet Chihuahua, shall we do today's #LainaReadsAnne thread? It's not too long today, but I actually really like Chapter 23.
#LainaReadsAnne It's a really cute chapter. We're visiting Miss Lavendar again and learning about her past!

One December Friday afternoon, Anne decides to walk out tovsit Miss Lavendar. Marilla worries as it looks like snow, but Anne plans to stay the night.
#LainaReadsAnne She's visited Echo Lodge many times since the first, often with Diana but alone as well.

Anne and Miss Lavendar are real kindred spirits, having developed a good friendship. It's very sweet and good for everyone involved. Very cute.

With that updated, shall we tackle Chapter 22 for #LainaReadsAnne? I kinda forgot it was Tuesday on Tuesday. My week's schedule was really thrown off.

Last thread, Anne and Diana stumbled upon a house in the woods and met Miss Lavendar Lewis!
#LainaReadsAnne We have a nice short chapter - somewhat of a relief after how long that last one was. It was a very good chapter, but my hands got tired! Also tbh I have other things to get done today.

...but oh boy, there's some stuff to unpack in this one. Buckle up, kids.
#LainaReadsAnne It's breakfast following the visit to Miss Lavendar's and Anne is filling Marilla in one everything that happened.

Alright, I do believe it is time for a #LainaReadsAnne thread! Today we have Chapter Twenty-One (Behind the scenes secret - I keep saying the chaper numbers in the threads solely so I can find them later.)
#LainaReadsAnne School's back!

And who should be starting school but Davy and Dora, which I think will be great for both of them. It could help draw Dora out of her shell and give Davy something to DO which he desperately needs.
#LainaReadsAnne Dora temporarily sits with a 10 year old girl, Mirabel Cotton, until a friend from Sunday school comes to school. This is really exciting for her, though, to be sitting with one of the "big girls".

Okay, shall we do a #LainaReadsAnne thread? Chapter 20 awaits!
#LainaReadsAnne When last we met, Anne had a whole day of chores planned, including changing the feathers from her old mattress to a new one.

It's a lovely day, which I actually prefer for a chore day. If it's like cold and rainy, I'd rather be all cozy with a book or movie.
#LainaReadsAnne Like I said last time, Marilla's going to town for the day and taking Dora, so it's just Anne and Davy.

Marilla tells him if he's good, she'll bring him back candy.

Bribery. Sure, that always works.

Okay, it's a little earlier than usual but I woke up early today! So now that I've updated things, let's do the #LainaReadsAnne thread for chapter 19!
#LainaReadsAnne It opens with Anne talking about how the nicest days aren't exciting or extra special, but are just regular sweet, happy days. It's very sweet.

It's late August and Anne is having one of those days.
#LainaReadsAnne She and Diana spend the morning at the pond with the twins which, you know, I wouldn't call relaxing but to each their own.

Then, that afternoon, she goes over to visit with Paul Irving. He invites her to stay for tea as his grandmother is away.

I do believe it is time for a #LainaReadsAnne thread. Shall we do Chapter 18?
#LainaReadsAnne This is a really fun chapter despite opening on Davy asking Anne where sleep is.

Actually, I even like this conversation. We do say people "go" to sleep so where IS it?
#LainaReadsAnne It's a cute question and I like that when Anne quotes some poetry at him, he's six and doesn't understand wtf she's talking about, and gets a bit upset that she didn't answer his question.

Today's #LainaReadsAnne thread is going to be a little shorter because if I combined this and the next one, it'd be massive and way too long.

But it's still going to be fun!
#LainaReadsAnne So now we're in school! Image
#LainaReadsAnne Anne introduces herself to Mr. Phillips and there's this great shot of her where Gilbert is just mooning after her. And it's just completely in the background and not the focus, but really cute. Image

Are y'all ready for a different sort of #LainaReadsAnne thread? Today we're going to be trying to figure out the time period that Anne of Green Gables is set in and talking about the fashion of that time.
#LainaReadsAnne This is going to be a multi-part thread with a lot of images. Seriously, I have like 10 pages of notes and a LOT of pictures bookmarked.

So I'm gonna ask y'all to be patient with the speed on this one, okay?
#LainaReadsAnne Let's start with what we know about the time period of Anne of Green Gables. (Not any of the sequels - in this thread, I will be treating AOGG as a standalone work.)

First, Montgomery wrote it in 1906 so it can't be any later than that.

I don't have a chapter today but perhaps if you all wouldn't mind a little rambling, I'll talk about my feelings re-reading this and some of my overall thoughts and things along that line. I don't have any notes, so we're free-forming this today lol #LainaReadsAnne
#LainaReadsAnne First of all, in the course of whatever research I was doing at the time, I found a Heritage Minute which I think is really cool
#LainaReadsAnne (Heritage Minutes are these things we have in Canada, they're like minute long short films that teach you about Canadian history. They play on like CTV and stuff. They're actually really cool.)

Well. Today's our last chapter for Anne of Green Gables. Are you ready? I'm not sure I am XD But let's do it anyways. #LainaReadsAnne
#LainaReadsAnne Marilla comes home from the oculist rather walloped by the news she got there. He said if she wears the glasses he gave her, stops reading and sewing and anyting that'd strain the eyes, including crying, her headaches will be cured and her eyes won't get worse.
#LainaReadsAnne If she doesn't, she'll be blind in six months.

The news hits her hard. She doesn't know what she'll do if she can't read or sew or how she's supposed to help that she's lonesome and cries.

Okey-dokey. We've got a thread today that isn't necessarily long, but it is heavy, so shall we get to it?

Again, parental figure/grandparent death content warning here. This is a big one, and if you have to peace and mute this hashtag, we're cool. #LainaReadsAnne
#LainaReadsAnne Montgomery lost her grandfather shortly before writing Anne of Green Gables. Though it seems they may not have been very affectionate people, they raised her and it does feel as though a lot of this chapter perhaps reflects her own grief.
#LainaReadsAnne Either that or she just has a particular talent for making you feel sad as hell.

Okay, so, we're all nice and updated and the surprise today is a bonus thread! Since these two chapters are fairly short/light on notes, we're doing two today! #LainaReadsAnne
#LainaReadsAnne As they make their way to where the exam results are posted, Jane is one hundred percent certain Anne will win either the medal or the scholarship. Like it's already a fact to her. Which is honestly super sweet.

Anne? Not so much.
#LainaReadsAnne There's already much celebrating happening when they get there - Gilbert Blythe has won the medal.

Anne is so disappointed in herself for a moment, especially of the idea of disappointing Matthew. Oh, sweetie. I don't think he could ever be disappointed in you.

Alright, time for an Anne thread! And depending on how long this takes, we might get a surprise. #LainaReadsAnne
#LainaReadsAnne Just a note on a thing I didn't touch on before because it didn't fit the scene, but Carmody has a new train branch that makes it much easier for the Avonlea students to come home from Queen's on weekends as long as the weather is nice.
#LainaReadsAnne Diana and others are generally there to meet them and walk them home. Note that Gilbert walking with Ruby Gillis is coded as somewhat romantic.

Diana walks with Anne.

Just. Saying.
