THREAD

1)
Meet @AlanKhazei who is running for a seat in the U.S. Congress #MA04.

He is endorsed by #Iran’s first official DC-based lobbying organization @paaia.

America, and the State of Massachusetts, please take this warning seriously.
2)
Khazei:

“What matters is how do we get Trump out of the White House.”

Use young energy to “finally break the log-jam in Congress, break the back of Mitch McConnell.”

“That’s what I am talking about.”
3)
Khazei’s close relations with high-profile figures have helped him raise significant cash.

“Khazei, however, has been one of the most successful at raising cash so far, and ended March with more than $780,000 cash on hand...”

NEW: @JakeAuch, a US Marine veteran and current Newton City Councilor, has narrowly won the crowded Democratic primary to replace @joekennedy in #MA04, @DecisionDeskHQ projects, narrowly defeating former Brookline select board member @jessemermell businessinsider.com/massachusetts-… Image
Auchincloss is all-but-assured to go on to win the general election in this safely Democratic district, which voted for Hillary Clinton by over 24 points in 2016, against GOP nominee Julie Hall. #MA04 includes some suburbs around Boston & stretches down to the South Coast region
Auchincloss performed particularly well in the South Coast region. He was backed by VoteVets, the With Honor Fund, a slew of local elected officials and groups including the mayors of New Bedford and Fall River, and secured the endorsement of the Boston Globe editorial board

Can see a wide path for Jake Auchincloss in #MA04, but this isn't a clear story of anybody spoiling anybody: Grossman was going for the same voters as him (from same base), Leckey and Linos going for the same voters as Mermell.
That said it reminds me a bit of those CA races last cycle where a couple candidates would have no strategy for victory but keep running anyway.
This Intercept piece touting Ihssane Leckey - who's heading for fifth place in #MA04 - used an internal Leckey poll to suggest that Mermell was stalled out. A better metric might have been $. Leckey mostly had to self-fund, as she raised a bit over $250k from donors.

Shaping up to be the most competitive high-profile race of the night: Jesse Mermell & Jake Auchincloss are trading the lead in the open #MA04 primary. Everyone else left quite a bit behind. Progressives splitting vote here; Auchincloss would be win for moderate wing.
Brookline (right next to Boston) reported all of its precincts, and Jesse Mermell (who's from there) DOMINATED: This powers her to a suddenly-big 32% to 21% lead over Auchincloss. But 75% of the district (none of which will be as good for Mermell as Brookline) is left.
Still a lot of the vote is out in #MA04, and Auchincloss has cut his deficit over Mermell significantly: Mermell now leads 25% to 22%, and favorable territory for Auchincloss remains.

First town counted in #MA01, Windsor, suggets higher turnout than 2018, including some new Neal votes.

2018
Neal: 100
Amatul-Wadud: 55

2020
Neal: 128
Morse: 94
First flip is Worthington, though everything is good *enough* for Neal to keep him ahead overall. (The first Holyoke precinct was great for Neal.)

2018
Neal: 214
Amatul-Wadud: 200

2020
Morse: 261
Neal: 177
We're expecting at least 1.1 million Dem primary votes statewide, and more than 100k in #MA01, so I'm not over-analyzing based on the precincts in, just looking at towns that are finished.

I’m going to count down the six most important elections — or “election questions” — in Massachusetts today, in some rough order that combines substantive stakes & suspense, because why not.
6. The state’s most conservative congressmember, Lynch, faces a progressive challenger. This has not drawn enough attn for an upset to be likely, but keep an eye on #MA08 still—esp. for future cycles. (I previewed via voting rights: theappeal.org/politicalrepor…)
5. #MA04: open seat could go to a progressive — but also veer right if most conservative benefits from a 7-way race to snatch primary.

4. We increasingly see talk of sheriffs matter a ton. Well, here’s a sheriff’s race that takes those powers seriously. theappeal.org/politicalrepor…

It's primary election day in Massachusetts where Democratic Senator Ed Markey is being challenged by Rep. Joe Kennedy III.
16th term #MA01 Rep. Richard Neal, Ways & Means Chair & endorsed by Speaker Pelosi, faces Democratic primary challenger Alex Morse, supported by Ocasio-Cortez and progressive Justice Democrats who helped 3 Democratic primary opponents defeat Reps Clay, Engel & Lipinski this year.
It's open #MA04 House race today with Democratic Rep. Joe Kennedy III running for US Senate instead of a 5th House term.
