2,000 days ago, a few thousand Michiganders started collecting signatures for a petition to end gerrymandering.

If they handed their petitions in today instead of December 2017, they still would have collected an average of more than 200+ per day or 8+ per hour.

In the very first election after maps were ungerrymandered, our entire legislature both reflected the electorate proportionally and also was controlled by Democrats for the first time in my life.

The new governing trifecta opened up new legislation.

For decades, Republicans had blocked meaningful policy change in Michigan despite mass shootings, catastrophic oil spills, the poisoning of a city's water supply, and access to health care and other critical services across the state.

When it comes to oversight and transparency, #miched #education #charterschools are the worst in the country.

It’s not just that they’re almost all for-profit. They are but #OhioEd has for-profit charters for example and much greater 🔎.
#mileg #mipol #migov @Network4pubEd
1/
For-profit #charterschools run on small profit margins for students—as far as we can tell. So it gives charters like those in MI every incentive to cut corners. That’s one problem. #mipol #migov #mileg

2/
But here’s something I’m guessing MI charters really don’t want #mileg members or #miched journalists looking into: property holdings.

The real profit is in various property bought and maintained with tax support. @NPEaction

There’s a #schoolvouchers link to the #January6thReport. It centers around attorney Cleta Mitchell who led Trump’s GA pressure efforts after the vote. #BigLie

Mitchell is all over the final report:
1/
january6th.house.gov/sites/democrat…
Mitchell is also Board Secretary for the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, a huge #schoolvouchers backer out of Wisconsin that’s given $millions to voucher research and advocacy.

The Bradley Foundation is also financially the “extraordinary force” behind #BigLie efforts, per @JaneMayerNYer reporting @NewYorker.

🧵 for #MIpol reporters: all fall I called Ducey MVP of #schoolvouchers and here he’s getting that actual award from Jeb Bush’s ExcelInEd

That group damage to #miched is huge. They’re behind 3rd Grade Fail modeled on #FloridaEd. Snyder gave them literal seat at the table

ExcelInEd will lead the fight against repeal of 3rd Grade Retention in the new #mileg. @PaulaMEAPres @mrobmused

Expect bogus “inside” stories like this one, which got started pre-Whitmer #migov and then released early in her term to keep foot on gas

ExcelInEd *seems* safe because they’re moderate relative to crazy Dixon-type book ban howls today and have impressive array of moderate funders you’d expect from a Bush-led org.

And as an org in many ways they are. I’d take them over @BetsyDeVos any day.

Last week, I spoke to voters in the Holland area about issues we're facing as a county as part of a @LWVHolland
candidate meet and greet event.

This links directly to the 5 minutes I was at the microphone:
The forum was held at Herrick District Library by City Hall in downtown Holland. After her group supported defunding Patmos Library, my opponent, Lucy Ebel, failed to show up for the event.

She did show up to city hall in 2020 to rant against an anti-discrimination ordinance.
Here's former mayor of Holland and current candidate for the 86th State House District against @LarryJackson86, Nancy DeBoer failing to come up with a justification for being the deciding against that anti-discrimination ordinance.

This vote helped lead to her getting unelected.

Bureau of Elections staff provides a detailed explanation of why signatures were found to be fraudulent in their report, but some of the examples they provide illustrate forgery that is almost painfully obvious. #mipol

Look at this.
What would explain this away? That the petition circulator was carrying 3-5 different pens and switching them at steady intervals? The ink even corresponds to the handwriting on these sheets.

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how this wasn't noticed by any campaign.
Here's an additional example provided by the bureau of elections of signatures submitted by James Craig's campaign: "None remotely resembled the signer’s (qualified voter file) signature."
