My #arewa #sokoto story
Oct 1999, during our break team in Federal primary school Sokoto, a lady with blood all over her body ran into our school, few minutes a group of about 200 boys welding machetes, clubs, stones and daggars stormed but was rebutted by our strong gate,Part 1
Our head mistress rang the alarm and the school went crazy with tears as I scampered to look for my kid sis @queen_bella0 and bright. I saw them crying in the chaos and I had to be the big bro. In few minutes my dad drove to our school dressed in #arewa buba. I saw death, Part 2
The distance between my school and water board road I saw children beheaded, I saw pregnant women ripped apart, I saw people being burnt alive , it still hunts me. My friend in the street saw me entering our house and signaled that he'll kill me, Part 3

1. Last night, #IS published a new statement from its spokesman Abu Hamza al-Qurashi in which, among other things, he lauded the recent exploits of #ISWAP#IS’s West Africa Province—in #Nigeria, alluding to Abubakar #Shekau's group, #JAS, as "khawarij."
2. #Qurashi said #IS was “pleased to hear the news of the bay’a” of former #Shekau followers.

This wasn't rhetoric. In the last two weeks, #ISWAP has been claiming attacks in parts of Borno in which it was previously inactive, places in which #JAS had previously been dominant.
3. After its victory over #JAS in May, many #JAS fighters joined #ISWAP, which consolidated these gains and began launching attacks in former #JAS areas quicker than many had anticipated it would.

The first such attack took place on 13 June southeast of #Maiduguri, near #Bama.

WATCH OUT 👀: #LOSTCHILDHOOD: The Trauma of growing up in Nigerian IDP camps, by @NellyAting

FOURTEEN-yr-old Samaila Abdulrahman
witnessed the death of his father who tried to flee from #BokoHaram dressed as a woman. The insurgents killed him because he wanted to outsmart them. ImageImage
Despite his loss, he wants to continue life, become a doctor, so he can help wounded people.

But #COVID19 has disrupted his plan like that of other 400, 000 children who arrived at various camps in #Maiduguri, Yobe, Gombe, and Adamawa at the ages of 8, 9, 10.

#LOSTCHILDHOOD
Many had dropped out of school to either marry, joined suicide bombers, or were forced into labour.

Umar Maikif, 16 desires to become a soldier. But his brother Ahmadu is the only help he has.

2/ 1. If you #DecentraliseNigerianPolice, as an INDEPENDENT security architecture, with 37 Independent State Police and 774+ Local Police Departments, funded by States & Local Councils, Nigeria will be BETTER SECURED, as @PoliceNG will become closer to indegenous communities.
3/ 2. #DecentraliseNigerianPolice, & days of PRESIDENT using @PoliceNG to RIG polls for his party across States, LGs, 'll be a thing of the past. For instance, U.S. PREZ is in charge of U.S. Feds like @FBI, right. Can #FBI BEAT @Chicago_Police, invade Chicago, et al to RIG POLLS?

Alert: Multiple sources are reporting that an attack on Maiduguri may be in the making, this night as over 50 #BokoHaram fighters have converged in Ajilari Kuros, which is approximately 2 kilometres from the city of #Maiduguri.
Update on attacks in #Maiduguri: At dawn today, #Bokoharam fighters infiltrated Maiduguri on foot from the old Molai road, where the CJTF engaged some of them. There were, however bomb blasts close to the Federal High Court and behind CBN Quarters within the metropolis.
These attacks are happening around the Ajilari and Molai axis, areas #Bokoharam fighters have always used as transit zones over the years to assemble fighters from different cells within the group before attacking the city of #Maiduguri.

1/ A carelessly incurred fine, effectively ignoring a surging ISWAP, the CCB’s sudden impotence, and a judicial bailout for an under fire ruling party, Nigeria has become the land where the unnecessary is king.
2/ The drama between @MobilePunch and @CCBNigeria represents the latest indication of the current administration’s selective commitment to the rule of law.
3/ The irony of @CCBNigeria who responded to a letter against CJN #Onnoghen - an official who is no favourite of @MBuhari - in a matter of hours while ignoring a legal request for information that could potentially tar @AsoRock’s leading lights is inescapable.

(THREAD) #Nigeria: In this thread I will be posting all #ISWAP attack claims and everything connected to Nigerian Army's fight against the terrorists in northeastern part of the country. It will be better to have everything in one place. Stay tuned.
Here is part of my work about #ISIS in December. The number of ISWAP attacks reported by their media has doubled compared to November:
The map of #ISWAP control in Borno. The situation has changed since - Baga, Cross Kauwa and Kukawa have been recaptured by Nigerian Army:

1/ The country’s profile got bleaker this week for a host of reasons - impetuous regulatory behaviour, refugees left out in the cold, a needless rise in public recurrent spending and an unshackled rogue police squad.
2/ Nothing illustrates #Nigeria’s dysfunction as much as the minimum wage palaver. The ₦27,000 ($75) or even ₦30,000 ($83) is not much – those that earn it will hover around the poverty line.
3/ The issue is that even such a wage is beyond the capacity of @AsoRock to pay, and for many small businesses as well, this will represent a massive upswing in cost. There is a disconnect between value creation by the workforce, and how much they earn.

#ISWAP eyes, perhaps set on Maiduguri, as this night attack by the group is ongoing in Auno, barely 24 kilometres to the city. The Nigerian Airforce is currently providing air support to ground troops.
Reports coming in from Auno indicate that #ISWAP fighters were pushed back after they suffered heavy casualties from the #Nigeriantroops, but the group’s capacity to carry out daily attacks on military targets across the region call for serious concern.
Each attack comes with new displacements into #Maiduguri. The new arrivals from Auno to the inundated city of Maiduguri said both the #Nigeriantroops and #ISWAP suffered casualties, just before they fled. #Tragic

Flash: The Nigerian Police Force just paraded 22 #BokoHaram suspects in #Maiduguri, amongst them, the Police claimed, are those involved in the abduction of the famous #Chibokgirls and facilitated suicide bombings and other attacks across the #Northeast. @YomiShogunle
The Police Command said it recovered 11 AK47 Rifles during the raid that led to the arrest of mid-level-commanders (Munzirs), and foot soldiers (Nakibs), across several cells, thought to be members of the #AbubakarShekau faction.
The police said it deployed the Special Operatives of the IGP Intelligence Response Team IRT, led by DC, Abba Kyari with support from SARS, using high tech equipments to achieve this feat between the 4th of July to the 9th of July 2018.

Growing up as a child between #Biu and #Maiduguri in the 80's and 90's left me with vivid memories. There were clear memories of affinity, of love, of trust, of sharing and good neighbourliness. #Maiduguri, to me, is the only place I want to retire to.

Today, the epitaph - home of peace, mock the state, its citizenry and govt. A crisis we all saw coming and I, in particular, wrote articles and reports in the New Sentinel and the Daily Trust, alerting the state of an impending threat to law and order, long before it occurred.
The official lines, then, was, the crisis "would fizzle out soon." Today, officials are pushing the same narrative. This is the wish of every well meaning citizen, but wishes are not horses. The evidence in Borno, especially rural areas, contrast sharply with official lines.
