Latest @DefenceHQ update notes the confirmation that #Russia is using #Iran's Shahed-136 drones, which have a range of 1,500 miles and were used in the attack on the MT MERCER STREET merchant tanker on 3 July 2021. Seems Moscow is using them for tactical strikes, not long-range.

Talk in #Georgia of opening a second front while #Russia is tied down in #Ukraine to liberate the occupied areas in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Britain's daily update points out the vulnerability of Russia's invaders west of the Dnipro river in occupied #Kherson region.

In fact 5 bridges in the region are now unusable despite frantic ongoing repair efforts.

#Ukraine's South Division stated in its morning update the bridge near the Kakhovka Hydroelectric plant was the latest hit.
Some locals report this bridge is still being used but it's probably not safe for heavy vehicles.

On this day in 1913, the Treaty of Bucharest was signed by delegates of #Bulgaria, #Romania, #Serbia, #Montenegro, and #Greece, ending the Second Balkan War. This conflict was another example of Balkan instability due to unsolved border disputes and Great Power politics.

After centuries of presence of the #OttomanEmpire in the Balkans, it began to weaken in 19th century. The Balkan nations were also aware of this. In 1912 four Balkan kingdoms - Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Montenegro - created the Balkan League to liberate its territories.

Soon after, the Ottomans began to mobilize their army. This was also done by the Balkan kingdoms. The great powers have warned that they don’t support border changes in the Balkans. However, Montenegro was first to attack in October 1912, which started the First Balkan War.

No further details yet, guess we will have to wait until the morning, til light and the end of the curfew to survey the damage.

Deze kop wekt de suggestie dat #Oekraïne 🇺🇦 zomaar bij de EU zou kunnen, maar daar is absoluut geen sprake van, ook niet met versnelde procedure. Plus, bovenstaand schema gaat ervan uit dat er geen dwarsliggers zijn. Klopt ook niet, want #Hongarije 🇭🇺 zal hoe dan ook traineren.

Toekennen van kandidaatstatus zou wel een goed signaal zijn; dat weerleg ik niet. Maar zelfs dat heeft een heleboel voeten in de aarde, en dan ben je alsnog mijlenver verwijderd van toetreding. Dit is een proces van vele jaren, zo niet decennia; zeker niet 'weken'.
