1/ Let this infographic I put together sink in & discomfort us all to do something! With a total of 26,069,908 students (pre-primary to college), the chronic issue of access to quality education with a severe lack of essential infrastructure in place is very concerning! #Ethiopia Image
2/ This infographic doesn’t even include the very concerning data (I don’t have the figures) of dropouts at different education levels due to economic, hunger, conflict, and other reasons.
3/ Also, the teacher-to-students ratio is very alarming (pre-primary – 1:102; primary (1-8) – 1:36; secondary – 1:27; higher education – 1:32). In addition, the rate of licensed/credentialed teachers and school leaders is very low.

NATIONAL REBIRTH

Members of the political leadership class in Nigeria are not selfish for pursuing their own good but because of their hatred of the common good. They are dead to the people because they live only for themselves.
This is the reason Nigerians must watch carefully the ongoing process to reform the police. Such a leadership cannot effect reforms in the general interest. They will engage in fireworks to show they are responsive.
They will come up with committees for reform, running from pillar to post to impress their angry people. Once tension is doused the situation gets worse. VIGILANCE!
To improve the character of this leadership requires courage and the conviction that a new order is possible.

DID THE NORTH PLAN TO BREAK AWAY FROM NIGERIA?

Britain handed over the command of the Nigerian army to indigenous soldiers in 1965. The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Welby Everald had preferred Brigadier Babafemi Ogundipe to succeed him,
but his recommendation was rejected leading to General Aguiyi Ironsi, the most senior officer taking charge of the army.
When another opportunity came for Ogundipe after the bloody July 1966 coup, he was overlooked again because it was felt he will not be able to control
soldiers from the north who were not ready to take orders from a Head of State of southern extraction.
The executioners of the July coup are Murtala Mohammed, Theophilus Danjuma, Martin Adamu, Shittu Alao, Musa Usman and Joe Garba and others. After a successful coup they wanted

LAYING THE FOUNDATION OF NIGERIAN FEDERALISM

Nigeria’s federalism was consolidated in the Lyttleton Constitution of 1954. The constitution recognized Western, Northern and Eastern regions as the federating units. The powers of the central and regional governments were Image
defined in the exclusive, concurrent and residual lists.
Following the Lancaster House London constitutional conferences of 1957 and 1958 and the Willink’s Commission of Enquiry, the constitution was amended to be the Independence Constitution of 1960.
It was after the 1957 constitutional conference that the Western and Eastern Regions attained self government on August 8, 1957.
In the 1958 London constitutional conference, it was agreed that Nigeria should become independent on 1 October 1960 and that plebiscites be held

A NEW NORM: LIVING THE LIE

By Prof Francis Egbokhare

We are in an era of social media saints and market place experts. We pounce on people without caution, strip others without conscience.
The failures of others trend, the shortcomings of the weak give us kick.
We appear addicted to the pain and suffering of other people who we criticise and condemn without pity.

I think we should have an opportunity to make mistakes without being afraid; fail without being condemned.
We should say sorry and be forgiven, be punished but experience redemption. We should be able to ask foolish questions in the course of learning, fall and be helped up.

THE DANGEROUS SILENCE OF THE OPPRESSED

From 1999 when the fourth Republic took off, opposition politics only became heated with the consolidation of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the South West, not because the party was different in character from opposition Image
platforms like the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), but due to its coordinated and sustained attacks on the policies of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level.
The ACN in its deployment of media messages in opposing the policy direction of the Jonathan
government created a charged political atmosphere likened to a sea wave. This was seen in the intensity of the debates that created Occupy Nigeria protest in 2012. Though not the kind of opposition to serve the common good, yet it laid bare the failure of leadership.

BUILDING A GREAT NATION

The efficiency of the Army is determined by the fullness or emptiness of the State. When the State is chaotic and disrupted by its politics, it is empty. Relentless tribal and religious agitations, election rigging, are traits of an empty state. Image
When a State is empty, poverty stalks the land like a tiger on the prowl and bandits and terrorists in government houses and Sambisa Forest hold sway. This transmits negative energy into the Army and throw confusion into troops as soldiers lose their brilliance.
The large size of the army of an empty State cannot guarantee victory against the fullness of a small army, call them terrorists or bandits or multinationals.
Terrorists fight with the energy from the harmony in their ideologies. That is why they can die for their causes.

Religion and tribe edify.
The appreciation of religion and tribe, is the discovery of the virtues of love, ingenuity and innovation.
Religion is love.
When it is hate, it loses its essence. ImageImageImageImage
We have surrendered ourselves to the things that divide us. Judge me by the content of my heart, the works of my hand, I mean my effectiveness in the race of time.

Religion and tribe are beautiful, but not against merit and common good or a people are reduced to pain and tears.
Muslim, Christian or traditional worshipper does not matter.
Fulani, Yoruba or Igbo is identity.
It is about defeating hate and greed.

When we live in love, good things happen.
When we open our hearts to each other, our lives become rich.

OKADA MEN ON CHAOTIC ROADS 1

Look at them.
They are with their bikes in a country where hardship is the norm. But they must survive the reason they use bikes known locally as Okada for commercial purposes. They are Okada Men in Ibadan, Nigeria. ImageImageImageImage
Okada riding business is an indication of the chaotic transportation system in Nigeria. In Oyo State, since the start of the fourth republic in 1999, more than 20years down the line, non of the governors showed the will to recreate the transportation system. ImageImageImageImage
It gets more chaotic, as bike as a means of transportation fills the gap.
