Maybe #NunesMemo info? Did they find out that McGonigal was busted, so that meant they were busted? WHY FAKE FBI INVESTIGATIONS? Peter, Durham
Did Devin find out from Russian intel about McGonigal "stepping down" before our own IC told him? Is that when Lindsey freaked out about communications being monitored, compromised?

As everyone applauds Republican Rep. Will Hurd tonight...

Remember, he's on the House Intelligence Committee. He's voted with Nunes and the GOP on each and every measure, including on their sham "Russia Investigation" findings and today's vote against subpoenaing the translator.
#FTR: We should applaud Republicans who break from Trump and their party.

At the same time, we should be aware of their actions, and how, even as recently as today, they contradict their words.

We must encourage them to take those words and turn them into concrete action.
We should welcome Rep. Hurd's words and encourage matching action.

I've feared we wouldn't see Republicans like Sen. Edward Brooke ā€” the first (of many that followed) to break w/ the GOP and call for Nixon's resignation.

I hope those fears are unfounded.

Since 1996 under Gingrich, the GOP has been using loaded, accusatory language to create negative propaganda to debase ordinary words.
They weaponized neutral terms such as "liberal", "progressive", "socialist", "taxes", "welfare", "regulation" into emotional dog-whistles.
1/
The famous 1996 GOPAC Memo, which Gingrich and others in the GOP crafted to give that year's GOP candidates tools to propagandize their campaigns, is loaded with the negative terminology to label their opponents, and positive terms for themselves.

The GOP, like Cambridge Analytica, deliberately avoids facts & logic.
They use emotional manipulation via propaganda to "switch off" voters' skepticism & critical thinking.
That's why they try to co-opt terms like "patriot", "freedom", and "rights".
This is not new.

Trumpā€™s refusal to release Democratic response to #NunesMemo makes a mockery of national security and common sense. nytimes.com/2018/02/09/us/ā€¦
This political ploy reveals the White Houseā€™s one-sided transparency. But the public sees through it - the #NunesMemo fell with a deafening thud.
Refusal to release Democratic response to #NunesMemo - evidence of obstruction of justice by Donald Trump happening in real time.

<THREAD> Why are some exaggerating/mistaking what the #GrassleyMemo says?

See this widely-shared thread below by @KimStrassel.

I wrote about the Grassley memo at length here: justsecurity.org/51956/dissectiā€¦

Iā€™ll raise specific points of disagreement with Strassel in this thread ... 1/
2. Strassel: ā€œit confirms the Nunes memo and blows up the Schiff talking pointsā€

FALSE: it undercuts #NunesMemo on 2 main claims: whether the FISA application relied on news story for corroboration and whether DOJ told court about political origins of Steeleā€™ dossier.

I wrote:
3. Strassel: #GrassleyMemo ā€œis confirmation that the FBI's FISA application relied on the dossier and a news articleā€

FALSE: In addition to what I wrote in #2 on the news article, top expert David Kris explains Nunes memo highly implausible on this issue:

Read my letter to @HouseDemocrats Colleagues, offering a legal analysis and rebuttal from @HouseJudDems to the deeply misleading #NunesMemo. ImageImageImageImage
1. The FISA court found probable cause to believe that Carter Page is an agent of a foreign power. Nothing in the #NunesMemo rules out the possibility that considerable evidence beyond the Steele dossier helped the court reach that conclusion.
2. Christopher Steele is a recognized expert on Russia and organized crime. The #NunesMemo does not provide a single shred of evidence that any aspect of the Steele dossier is false or inaccurate in any way.

Folks in my mentions are demanding I explain my response to the #NunesMemo, so:
The #FBI was investigating Clinton and Trump during the 2016 campaigns.
But while the FBI publicly revealed the investigation of HRC--more than once-- they never revealed investigation of Trump.
1/
If the FBI wanted to go after Trump, as is alleged in this ludicrous #NunesMemo, all that was needed was to reveal the investigation. But instead they kept it super, ultra secret--even to the press, as was made clear with this embarrassing header.

2/
It took a year and a half for the story to actually break of what happened--"coffee boy" #GeorgePapadopoulos exposed the connections.
The #SteeleDossier was never more than a side-trip on the road to indictments.
Pretending otherwise just isn't smart.

What should we make of the #NunesHoax? [THREAD]

#NunesMemo

h/t @Zac_Petkanas
The #NunesMemo confirms that the FBI's counterintelligence investigation began with Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, not the #SteeleDossier. The Papadopoulos information triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016
Despite talking points from right-wing media, the #NunesMemo does NOT say that the #SteeleDossier was the basis for the FISA warrant re: Carter Page.

Joint statement from House Judiciary Democrats: Republicans Are Complicit in Efforts to Obstruct Justice with Release of #NunesMemo. nadler.house.gov/press-release/ā€¦ ImageImage
President @realDonaldTrumpā€™s decision to allow the release of Chairman Nunesā€™ Republican talking points is part of a coordinated propaganda effort to discredit, disable and defeat the Russia investigation.
House Republicans are now accomplices to a shocking campaign to obstruct the work of the Special Counsel, to undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the Justice Department and the FBI, and to bury the fact that a foreign adversary interfered with our last election.

Iā€™ve seen the underlying Intelligence documents behind the #NunesMemo, and it is a distortion of the facts. Anyone can selectively pick documents out of a huge storyline and cook up a case. That doesnā€™t make it true.
This is not the way the United States government operates, and it is not the way members of the Intelligence Committees are supposed to act.
As a member of Congress, getting appointed to an Intelligence Committee is a very sobering proposition. You hear things that you have to keep secret, that you canā€™t share with anyone, because you know if you do reveal classified information, people can die.
