A thread looking back on some of the things
the @RemainerNow campaign did beyond our social media platforms in 2019. We may have failed in our battle for a
#FinalSay to #StopBrexit but we did our best and it was made possible by many
of you who supported us in many ways.

1/32
In January, just before the first vote on1May’s Withdrawal Agreement, we set up our third #RemainerNow goes to parliament event to meet cross party MPs (previous in April and October 2018). Here was @ChrisOram1990 just before we went
in.

2/32
We spent a good couple of hours with various MPs at different times. Here was the gang with @Anna_Soubry at the end.
(although the tweet below wrongly says Dan Carden was there instead of @darrenpjones ). Thanks to all who supported

"The Walk of Shame!"

@andrealeadsom inexplicably decided to go for a stroll during the #PeoplesVoteMarch, despite most of her colleagues leaving Parliament by car...

She couldn't possibly have done it just for the optics, could she..? 🤔

"You're going to Jail, Mike!"

Never one to miss a photo opp, @michaelgove saw the warm reception Andrea Leadsom received, and decided to 🚶‍♂️ out on his own #WalkOfShame

Either that or he's gone full #YellowHammer and is now preparing for the fuel shortages...🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️
"Shame! Shame! Shame!"

@Jacob_Rees_Mogg followed Leadsom and Gove. He knowingly and intentionally walked his child into the protest.

A spontaneous chant of "Shame!" broke out as protesters realised he was using his son as a human shield!

German TV put the #PeoplesVoteMarch at 2.2 million, according to a German methodology for estimating crowds
The method is based on how many people pass every second on the official march route.

200 / sec for 3 hours is 2.16 million. The march was actually longer than 3 hours. Even if you call it 100 people every second you get 1.08m.
Germany’s Die Zeit said over 1 million people.

This does not count:
- people joining and leaving except at start / end
- side roads / unofficial routes
- parallel streams
- people taking a break in coffee shops / toilets
- stragglers who are early / late

Today we joined other groups from Berkshire & the rest of Britain (as well as some from further afield) for the #FinalSayForAll march.
It was brilliant - the weather was good, the atmosphere was amazing, the speeches at the end were memorable.

Letwin amendment passes by 322 votes to 306. Government is now likely to pull the main vote, or nobble it to make it irrelevant. Will Boris Johnson write the infamous letter to the EU? Or will he find a way to weasel out? For now at least, Remain lives on! 👏 #PeoplesVoteMarch

Jeremy Corbyn: "Supporting the deal today would merely fire the starting pistol on a race, a race to the bottom on standards."
Follows up by asking if Boris Johnson can confirm that, if a deal isn't reached by December 2020, the UK (ex NI) will fall onto WTO terms (i.e. no deal).

Not sure why the question, since that's the only logical outcome of A50 and transition. Perhaps he needs public confirmation?
Boris Johnson fires back by attacking Corbyn's tone. If you can't play the ball, play the player.

You will hear more nonsense and spin from Brexit-boosting MPs today than at any time in history. Claims that Boris Johnson's deal will protect environmental standards, workers' rights etc. (it won't - that's in the Political Declaration which is non-binding) #PeoplesVoteMarch
Claims that Brexit will make the UK richer. (Independent estimates are that Boris Johnson's version will knock 6.7% off GDP growth i.e. we'll grow by that much less than if we stayed)
Claims that this will "get Brexit done" (it won't - it will move us on to the second and much harder phase of Brexit, in which we have to reach a deal with the EU and others before we run out of transition time)

Now is the time for Remainers to redouble their energies, lobby their MPs and show up to Saturday’s #PeoplesVoteMarch. A resolution is finally in sight and it needn’t be a bad one.

Thread with template for an MP letter I emailed to mine. 1/n
Dear MP name [find email below]

A quick note on Saturday’s votes in which I’d urge you to demand an extension for full economic impact assessments of the Johnson Deal and a confirmatory referendum with our current deal in the EU as the alternative.

parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-…
The good thing about Johnson’s Deal is that it further reduces the risk of No Deal. But just because No Deal is terrible it doesn’t mean we should accept any deal.

Good morning.
Thread here on a tale of two marches.
This may take some time.

Last Saturday, hundreds of thousands marched through London to ask for a second referendum on #brexit. It was announced from the platform that more than a million had taken part. There were certainly a lot.
(2)
Yesterday, thousands more were on the march to protest about the betrayal of the failure to deliver #brexit that day.

Mr Peston with respect, you might do the country a better service by calling this out for what it is, the future of the country for the next 40 years being decided by 30 or so people in grubby backroom deals

And then focus on the extraordinary story of the march and petition
This Tory plotting does not serve the country, they are serving only themselves, and focusing on it is a distraction. Meanwhile millions of people are trying to have a voice as we speak.

You owe them your attention, surely
#RevokeArticle50
#PeoplesVoteMarch
Sorry to be so direct @Peston but when you look back at this in 10 years time, do you really want to find yourself asking why you indulged hapless Tory plotting & Labour triangulation when record breaking marches & petitions were being desperately launched by the unrepresented?

(THREAD) I understand the frustration of some who say that Nicola Sturgeon should also attend pro-Indy rallies, not just #PeoplesVoteMarch. But I personally believe she does well to stay away as FM. Until #indyref2 campaign starts, every Indy march should stay 100% grassroots.
If she were to attend, that's the only story you'd hear in the overwhelming majority of the Press. That this was all the SNP's doing. That independence is a party political issue (it isn't). It would do very little to gain 2014 No voters, and, we need a few of them for indyref2.
To raise suspicions of "I've never seen Nicola at an indy rally", like she's some Unionist Manchurian candidate, is tin-foil level mad. Keep on organising your local Yes movements. Keep on agitating at local level. Keep on advancing the Yes cause with family & friends.

God alone knows how many tens of thousands of good people at #PeoplesVoteMarch. They will be able to say that they stood up against the lies and the enormous cowardice of Tory and Labour leaders, and did what they could for their country 1/2
Anything more? I just don't know. Spoke to Labour people who described leaderless Labour MPs "hiding under their duvets". My @ObserverUK colleagues have spoken to Tories who know that, if they defend the national interest, their careers will be over.
British politics is being hit from all directions. A fanatical Right that would rather burn the country down than admit it's in the wrong. A hopelessly ill-equipped prime minister. A crackpot leader of the opposition and a failed media.

Best of luck and all love to those on the #PeoplesVoteMarch today! While I’ve still got huge reservations about a second ref in itself (as well as the apparatchiks running the campaign), it’s the failures of the Tory Party in government driving polarisation in this country.
I’m not a Lexiter. My preference, still, is to Remain in the EU. But my priority is to see a Labour government in power which could deal with the social and economic forces which drove Brexit in the first place.

Which means thinking through certain things...
The first is that polarisation on Brexit benefits the hard nationalist right most of all. They don’t want unity - they want to exploit a narrow majority to pulverise the notion of governing by consensus. Remainers can’t play their game if ultimately they want to win.

1) Reflection on Tory brexiters - thread
On the day when up to a million march & 4 million sign to correct the stupidity & arrogance of #Brexit leaders perhaps its a good time to reflect on "take back control"
This week, we were humiliated

#RevokeArticle50
#PeoplesVoteMarch
2) barely reported, spun by the BBC as "EU gives itself a breather", we had to sit outside a room whilst 27 other countries decided our fate, what kind of #brexit extension we would get or even if we would get an extension
The greatest humiliation since Suez, & brexiters did this
3) the key point is this. The EU27 gave us an extension on article 50 because it was in their interest. If they had decided an extension was *not* in their interest, we'd have been out with no deal in a few days. And there's nothing we could have done about it.

Soon we'll be at the point where the disaster that is brexit runs out of can kicking and we finally face a choice.

No Deal.

Or postponing and ultimately defeating the whole stupid concept.

Let's look at how we got here.

Thanks to @ByDonkeys for the inspiration
The Brexiters biggest problem has been a lack of understanding between them of what brexit is. Hence the silly use of "the brexit people voted for" as a phrase to cover up "we've no bloody idea what people voted for"
In any half decent democracy brexit would never have been unleashed without a plan being created.

But not only do we STILL not have that, Brexiters havent grasped even the basic details like how to import food.

A THREAD ON #REMAINERNOW

So it’s been one year exactly since I (Andy) started tweeting under @remainernow.

This thread will cover thank yous, some of the things the #Remainernow campaign has done over the last 12 months, what I think must happen next & how you can help.
1/n
So 1 year ago today, having spent the previous 18 months devastated about Brexit & the ramifications it looked like it was going to have for UK, I decided I had to do more & I set up a new twitter account with a simple aim & this was the 1st tweet.

2/n
I'd been following several #regretful leavers (e.g. @HughNorris7 & @timjn1) for a while on my personal twitter (now dormant) & decided that their voices (& many others like them) must be amplified & they must know others feel the same..@remainernow was the result of that.

Waiting for the start of the Brexit What's The Deal event at Bracknell Open Learning Centre organised by Berkshire for Europe.
We'll be live tweeting the event, so watch this space.
If you are at the event, use the hashtag #WhatsTheDealBracknell on social media.
It promises to be an interesting evening, particularly with the news this afternoon that Railways Minister @JoJohnsonUK has resigned from the government and spoken out in favour of a #PeoplesVote on Brexit rather than the choice of no deal or a bad deal.
Our speakers this evening are:
Bracknell MP @DrPhillipLeeMP who was one of the early MPs to resign their ministerial post over Brexit (for the right reasons)
