1/ let's be honest. Things are very bad right now. The ICE raids, the activities of their agents, the overt racism on the part of Donald Trump, the existence of concentration camps and children in cages, the constant marketing of the illegal as legal, as well as the marketing of
The legal as illegal, the continued attacks upon the rights of citizens, the seeming impotence of House Dems, the confusion of applicable Constitutional law, the federal courts stacked with Trump appointed Republicans, and the confusion and Discord sown amongst the Left, Liberal
Democrats, the resultant infighting over the vagaries of impeachment, and the overall frustration associated with feeling helpless. This is what we're facing. This is what we have to deal with now. This is right in our faces and it's not going away any time soon.

If any of that

Let me remind: The Geneva Conventions and the Law of War is applicable at -ANY TIME- our military personnel is involved in a conflict. ANY violation of either is a criminal act per military and international law.

@VP @POTUS @ICEgov @SecPompeo are criminals.

@CIA @FBI @cnni
@Potus @VP @SecPompeo are unfit to lead, have given unlawful orders that violate the Law of War & the Geneva Conventions.

They must be removed; Immediately.
Anyone who willingly followed the unlawful orders are just as guilty.

1) My background is math, and I used to build predictive statistical models. I want to throw up a ⚠️red flag⚠️about what the administration just proposed for a work-around of the #citizenshipquestion for #Census2020

First, this is what D.trUMP said today at the White House...
2) In a nutshell, they want to gather vast amounts of federal data so that they can determine (or in some cases, guess) whether someone is a US citizen or not

This federal data, once merged w/ the census data, would be a very powerful tool that could be weaponized, like in 2016
3) They're asking for data from "every department and agency in the federal government"

This includes:
INS
SSA
IRS
HHS
VA
DOJ
HUD
Dept of Education

The big questions are;
What data is "legally accessible"?
Will the federal agencies cooperate?

So, Denver Public Schools today (school is not in session) decided it was a good idea to send out robo calls to those in the district warning them about possible ICE enforcement action in the district. There are an estimated 130K illegals in Denver.
Here is DPS Superintendent @SusanaCDenver’s statement: ow.ly/GeUh50uYT91. Obviously she knows she has the blessing of @GovofCO to express her Trump #resist rhetoric as a public employee. The question is did the Governor encourage her to put out this outrageous statement?
“I also want to say again that I strongly oppose comments like those of President Trump announcing that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will work to remove people from our country.”

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised given CO is now an official #SanctuaryState

Kremlin media outlets Sputnik and RT recently got de-invited to the International Conference on Media Freedom and some folks ain't happy. #WednesdayWisdom

cc: @ZellaQuixote
We downloaded tweets from the last 10 days containing "media", "freedom", and "RT" or "Sputnik" and filtered out a couple of early false positives. 9.4% of tweets are automated (average for most datasets of this sort is roughly 3%).
The first on-topic tweet about RT/Sputnik being barred from the conference came from @BotsPutin, which probably isn't a bot although many of the other early accounts to tweet about the subject are in fact automated (mostly newsbots linking custom collections of news sites.)

THREAD:
Someone asked "Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?"

Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England, wrote this magnificent response:
(2)
"A few things spring to mind.

Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem.
For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility,
no honour and no grace - all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.

So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable,

Earlier today I was arrested with 17 other Jews and allies in the Cannon congressional building in Washington, DC, as part of a #NeverAgainIsNow protest against the US government's detention and abuse of immigrants in American-run concentration camps around the country.
As an American Jew, I grew up hearing NEVER AGAIN. Never again can we allow the horrors of the Holocaust. Never again to death camps and forced labor. Never again to ripping children from their parents. Never again to weaponizing abuse, indignity, and dehumanization.
As an American Jew, I also grew up hearing where the world fell short; where humanity failed to live up to that rallying cry of NEVER AGAIN: Cambodia. Bosnia. Rwanda. Darfur. I learned that NEVER AGAIN is both a call to action and a reminder of the cost of inaction.

1. So, everybody’s been reading @Peter_Wehner’s article “The Deepening Crisis in Christianity” in @TheAtlantic, and quite a few people have asked for my take. Taking it easy in Spokane the last couple of days I’ve been able to give it some thought.

#SundayThoughts #EmptyThePews
2. The article itself is eloquent and worth reading, though I share neither Wehner’s remaining deference to evangelicals (he finds their persecution complex to some degree justified) nor his concern for “the Church.” Also I pretty much hate St. Augustine.

theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
3. But it’s interesting to me that, in what is essentially yet another critique of conservative/white evangelical hypocrisy, Wehner emphasizes the damage to “the Church” and to evangelicalism itself in terms of people leaving Christianity, which he apparently finds a BAD THING.

The instant trump spots @SamSpadino holding up a poster of him with Epstein, he panics. "Get him out of here". His facial expressions, his body language, tell the story vividly. He's thrown for a loop. He knows the unspoken accusation only too well.
His immediate reaction is to insult. "Go home to your mom darlin'... ". Classic toxic masculine bullying, attempting to disempower and feminize his attacker. And then he is lost for words. He flounders.
Note that as his supporters become angry and respond with chants of "USA", as if rampant nationalism can can cancel out all ills, the president of the United States does not once plead for calm and the safe passage of @SamSpadino from a clearly threatening situation.

"Our founding fathers were not living gods...they were fallible human beings." The Declaration of Independence "did not condemn slavery, protect the rights of women or include Native Americans." salon.com/2019/07/04/fou…
The impact of the prejudices, biases & contradictions codified by our founding fathers is still felt today. We continue to struggle as a nation to embrace our full history, one that includes family separation of black families at the auction block & today of migrants at camps.
A country that has yet to realize it's full promise for every person that calls it home & indeed makes it great, & yet it is a free country, one where I can resist, offer dissenting & critical opinion & challenge with bold activist leadership.

“I grew up in an abusive relationship with the god of conservative Christianity, and we are now all in an abusive relationship with the Christofascist Trump regime.”

My #IndependenceDay thoughts from last year, still sadly relevant.

Shout-out to @ThatMandyNicole who is quoted in this piece. Like her, “I grew up with white Christian nationalism too. With ritual recitations of the pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible...”

Like her, this made it difficult for me to express patriotism.
“At least so long as we remain unable to achieve a consensus about how to face up to the crimes of our government and society, past and present, and to find a way to pursue restorative justice through our governing institutions, American pieties will ring hollow.”

AH!! Now it’s clear: THIS is what the AOC stunt was really about! “Fire Customs and Border Protection leadership for 'toxic culture'”. THEY FEAR THE NEW LEADERSHIP. Fuck off Chuck. thehill.com/homenews/senat…
The new CBP leadership and Tom Homan have the knowledge and power to STOP the illegal flow of migrants and DEPORT those here illegally. THIS is what has Democrats really frightened.
No more illegals, no bulking up of “population” numbers for 2020 census means reduction in illegal vote “harvesting”, hence no guaranteed elections and no free census-rigged federal money and power grab.

If you're reading this, I have just been arrested with 17 other Jews and allies outside of the ICE Detention Facility in Boston, protesting the US government's detention and dehumanizing abuse of immigrants in concentration camps at the border and around the country.
Growing up Jewish, I heard the message over and over from my elders: NEVER AGAIN. Honestly, I heard it so often, I got a little impatient, as kids sometimes do. I thought: I get it, I get it, you don't have to keep saying it. Obviously the Holocaust should never happen again.
Surely everyone understands this now.

I am heartbroken to have grown to understand what they already knew. We are now a country locking children in cages, forcing grown women to drink from toilets, forcing men to live in cells so cramped they can't lie down to sleep.

The Left’s explosive, prolonged rage at the election of President Donald Trump on Nov. 8, 2016, gave new life to the ultra-violent leftist movement known as Antifa. 2)

As a result, Antifa, which has been described as a revolutionary communist-anarchist militia movement that aspires to forcibly overthrow the United States government, is responsible for “a level of sustained political street warfare not seen in the U.S. since the 1960s.” 3)

Thought experiment: how about a 10 year moratorium where men cannot be voted or appointed to office? Sounds drastic but it’s what women endured until recently, other minorities too. And might be the best way to change our culture of patriarchy and misogyny.

They want to murder us in the streets. Yeah, I said it. Democide.

Populum occidisti is the plan. They want to drive us into a violent mob with their abuses, disgraces, discrimination. We have been the frog in the water.

Wake up. We’re getting scalded.
Party Lines are drawn: My military; My police; My bikers. Brownshirts.
All of them. Listen to what they’re saying.

We’re the ungovernable mob? Fascists? Haters? Traitors?! Most gallingly; Racists, Anti-Semites.

The lies don’t stop. The hypocrisy and projection are stunning.
How many Rs charged with child trafficking? Epidemic unrecorded sexual abuses at these border concentration camps?

All while accusing ‘the Left’ of every immorality: infanticide; indifference to crime, murder, national security - a language of fear and division. Lie upon lie.

WHY JOE BIDEN IS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE WE DESERVE
1/110 So this may be controversial to say on Twitter, but I fully support @JoeBiden for President. @BarackObama is the living embodiment of all that is good in us as Americans, and he trusted Joe to carry on his vision of a better world for all of us. But it's more than that.
2/ Joe Biden was not just another useless VP during a typical President’s term. He and Barack were best friends, and Barack frequently leaned on Joe’s expertise to make himself a better leader for us.
