I want @elonmusk to succeed, but I believe his erratic, monarchic approach to Trust & Safety issues going to backfire. A quick 🧵
I’ll admit, it is satisfying to watch Twitter’s “regime change” for those of us acquainted with the company’s longstanding political bias. But he needs to move Twitter to sanity for his deal to succeed, not from one form of crazy to another.
This means taking a more professional, conciliatory approach. And yes, making compromises. These compromises might seem weak in the short term but will advance an equilibrium of free speech, political neutrality, positive user experience, and profitability in the long run.

HISTORIC THANKSGIVING AND THE ARMY

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM THE U.S. ARMY CENTER OF MILITARY HISTORY!

Thanksgiving wasn’t always the fourth Thursday of November.

#Armyhistory #USArmy #Thanksgiving #TRADOC #MilitaryHistory Image
While the holiday has roots dating back to the Pilgrims and post-harvest celebrations, it wasn’t until the late 17th century that a Thanksgiving-style holiday became customary throughout New England.
The New England colonists were accustomed to regularly celebrating "thanksgivings"—days of prayer thanking God for blessings. During the revolution, the Continental Congress decided to declare several days of thanksgiving to help inspire our troops to victory. Image

Did you know that #Thanksgiving is also National Family Health History Day?

Even if you don’t have a parent or sibling with a genetic diagnosis, you might be more likely to get a condition if other people in your family have or had the condition. 🧵 (1/7) #GeneChat
These can include things like cancer, diabetes, or heart conditions. However, having a family health history of these things doesn’t mean that you will definitely get them. (2/7)
You can collect your family’s health history online using the My Family Health Portrait tool. Then, just as important, share this info with your healthcare provider so you can act on any findings! cdc.gov/genomics/famhi… (3/7)

#FoodSafety 🦃🥘🍽️

The @CDCgov estimates 48 million people get sick from food borne diseases every year in US, many outbreaks occur around #Thanksgiving. Here are a few cooking practices to keep your family safe and healthy this holiday season ⬇️ today.com/health/top-rea…
👉🏻 Always wash your food, hands, counters, and cooking tools.

👉🏻 Keep raw foods to themselves. Germs can spread from one food to another.

👉🏻 Foods need to get hot and stay hot. Heat kills germs.

👉🏻 Put perishable food in the fridge right away.

fda.gov/consumers/free…
Make sure a turkey reaches internal temp of 165°F to kill germs. Check with a food thermometer; always avoiding bone. Check at:

WEDNESDAY WISDOM - THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION
"In the midst of a Civil War," President Lincoln felt compelled to offer a Proclamation to the nation expressing his thoughts about why a national day of Thanksgiving is needed.

#armyhistory #USArmy #TRADOC #Thanksgiving
Like some of his predecessors, this was done in a time of war as a way to express gratitude for our forces' victories and for the blessings of the American people.

This proclamation in 1863 began the official annual holiday of Thanksgiving we celebrate today. It reads, in part
"The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies... these bounties...can not fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.

If you're frying your turkey this year, make sure it is thawed. Follow the manufacturer instructions for using your fryer. Only fry a turkey outside and away from your home. Never use turkey fryers in the garage or on the porch, Turkey America!

Here’s a short “well actually” sheet to 👏 back:

“I’m sick of just throwing money at #schools that just waste it!”

Well, actually, Aunt Betsy, investing in #publiceducation is one of the best things taxpayers can do—more $$, better outcomes. @KiraboJackson

This week Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. How did a sixth-century Roman give thanks? One way was a charitable gift that commemorated the event for which the donor was grateful. In this 🧵, two examples: Belisarius and Theodora. #Roman #Byzantine #History #Thanksgiving Detail of a sixth-century man, probably Belisarius, from theDetail of Theodora, from the imperial panel mosaic in San Vi
1) Perhaps in 537, Belisarius gifted the See of St. Peter, via Pope Vigilius, a jewel-encrusted gold cross weighing 100 pounds. A clue that this was a thanks offering is that the cross was inscribed with the details of Belisarius' recent victory over the Vandals (533-534). Belisarius in the palace of the Vandals in Carthage. Artwork
This cross sadly does not survive today, but a processional gold cross from a later era (ca. 1000) may give some indication of what it looked like. This beauty is held in the @metmuseum:

It’s #Thanksgiving horror story time. 1997, I’m 1 of a group of friends renting a row house on Adam’s Mill Rd NW, on the east side of the National Zoo. My housemates had all left town or were with family, so my plan was the stranded bachelor dinner.
2. The rule was, I’ll cook the bird, y’all bring sides & booze. There were about 8 of us. Didn’t you come to this, @clvnzrdz? There was a guy from my unit, some GW grad students, & a few odds & sods from different restaurants.
3. I had just put my bird in the oven & was having a smoke break on the back steps. To my right, I watched my next door neighbor set up his fryer. I offered to help, but he declined, so 🤷🏻‍♂️. I kept smoking.

Alright señores y señoritas, after seeing the support and encouragement to continue in 2022, 365 days of supply chain is BACK...

Check out 2022 here 👇🏽
01/ Many of the cyber security vulnerabilities (zero days) in modern electronics equipment are hardware modifications inserted along the supply chain - component, assembly, or distribution level

That serves as a conduit to insert malicious software, spy, etc on the target party
02/ If Pitchbook data is remotely correct (namely not including buyout deals), 2021 was the breakout year for supply chain technology Image

It's one thing what people tweet, it's another thing what they do. Our household (me a physician, my infectious diseases physician husband, & 3 kids, all #vaccinated, all elig #boosted) are back to:

👉Grocery delivery
👉Drive-thru pharmacy
👉Take-out food only
👉No airplanes
P.S. To those who say this disregards the safety of grocery store workers, pharmacy workers, restaurant workers, that is false. ALL OF THOSE WORKERS are safer if their workplace contacts are limited to a small # of core staff & not open to the general public. This benefits all.
And for context, which is important since we all come into this #pandemic with diff situations & risk tolerance, 3 wks ago:

👉 We got all groceries/prescriptions in store (😷)
👉 Husband ✈️ (N95 😷) for work
👉 Had fam Xmas trip & late Jan ✈️ friend trip planned (all cancelled)

1/n #Hanukkah comes super early this year – it starts tonight! – and in fact, this is the earliest that it *can* occur. Let’s talk about why that’s so! (thread 🧵 ) #Hanukkah2021
2/ The date of #Hanukkah is determined (no surprise) by the Hebrew calendar, not by the Gregorian calendar. More specifically, Hanukkah begins on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev...
3/ The Hebrew calendar is “lunar-solar,” which means it uses months based on the cycle of the moon’s phases, but also attempts to synch up with the annual cycle of the seasons…
