Americans need a coordinated, fully-funded, whole-of-government response to keep them and their loved ones safe. The President’s request for coronavirus response funding is long overdue and completely inadequate to the scale of this emergency.
For almost two years, the Trump Administration has left critical positions in charge of managing pandemics at the National Security Council and the Department of Homeland Security vacant.
The President’s most recent budget called for slashing funding for the Centers for Disease Control, which is on the frontlines of this emergency. And now, he is compounding our vulnerabilities by seeking to ransack funds still needed to keep Ebola in check.

A budget reflects a leader’s priorities.

The #TrumpBudget makes it clear that the President only cares about the wealthiest in America at the expense of the most vulnerable in our country.
In 2017, President Trump and Republicans passed a disastrous $1.5 trillion tax bill that gave the wealthiest Americans and big corporations massive tax break.

The #TrumpBudget would extend even more tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and big corporations.
Now to counteract the additional $1.5 trillion of debt added to the national debt by the 2017 Republican tax cuts, the #TrumpBudget would cut $900 billion from Medicaid.

Approximately 9.3 million veterans rely on #Medicare as their primary or supplemental insurance.

The #TrumpBudget cuts #Medicare by $500 billion over 10 years leaving these veterans with uncertainty about how to pay for the care they need. Image

The #TrumpBudget is a nonstarter. I'm speaking now about how the substantial proposed cuts are yet another Republican attack on health care that would make it more expensive, out of reach, and lower quality for millions of families. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…
President Trump likes to pick winners and losers. In the #TrumpBudget, the few who are very, very wealthy and the biggest corporations win, and people who rely on Medicaid, CHIP & other support for their health care lose.
I'm sure President Trump is hoping enough people won't notice how harmful the #TrumpBudget would be, but Democrats notice—& we won’t stop standing up for patients or shining a spotlight on how badly his policies would hurt the families we represent.

The #TrumpBudget is replete with dangerous proposals that leave working families to fend for themselves in a changing and uncertain economy. It makes the President’s priorities clear: the wealthiest Americans come first ahead of working Americans. bit.ly/2HaXWkH
The #TrumpBudget is a manifestation of #TrumpBrokenPromises to improve health care, safeguard Medicare, & eliminate the debt. POTUS cuts Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, nutrition assistance, student loan assistance, & other priorities to offset the deficits caused by the #GOPTaxScam.
POTUS & GOP allies promised that their tax cuts for the wealthiest would pay for themselves & not cause higher deficits because the benefits directed toward the wealthy would eventually trickle down to workers & boost economic activity. This #TrumpBudget makes no mention of them.

In the face of a bitterly divided country that needs healing, President Trump today threw gasoline on the fire by releasing a stunningly harsh budget that would tear us further apart. 1/
It would push tens of millions of less fortunate Americans into or deeper into poverty and cause widespread hardship even as it doubles down on tax cuts for the most well-off. 2/
The #TrumpBudget would take health coverage away from millions of people and cut aid to millions of families and individuals struggling to make ends meet. Its budget and tax cut policies would further widen inequality and racial disparities. 3/

HOW the #TrumpBudget purports to achieve deficit reduction is far more important than the date the budget reaches any particular budget target. 1/3
Press reports suggest that the budget will rely on deep cuts in health care, basic assistance for those who struggle, and core investments in a range of areas that support growth - while doubling down on the 2017 tax cuts that shower benefits on the most well-off. 2/3

🚧Infrastructure
⚖️Income/racial disparities

🍎All 3 previous #TrumpBudget s have proposed substantial cuts in #SNAP, #housing assistance, & basic income assistance for families w/ children, people w/ disabilities, & more.

"The germ, a fungus called Candida auris, preys on people w/ weakened immune systems, and it is quietly spreading across the globe."

It has recently reached NY, NJ, and IL. CDC has classified it as an "urgent threat."

We need to talk about this. 1/.

nytimes.com/2019/04/06/hea…
C. auris is part of a "rise of drug-resistant infections" across the globe. Already, experts have said that "unless more effective new medicines are developed and unnecessary use of antimicrobial drugs is sharply curbed, risk will spread to healthier populations." 2/
A study conducted by the British government projects that, unless we take action now, "10 million people could die worldwide of all such infections in 2050, eclipsing the eight million expected to die that year from cancer." 3/

Slashing funding for the Special Olympics is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cruelty of the #TrumpBudget. The President’s proposal includes a number of other items that would be disastrous for Nevada and for the nation:
The #TrumpBudget includes plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act. That means no more protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Around 371,000 Nevadans would no longer have health insurance if the ACA is repealed.
After adding $2 trillion to the deficit with the GOP tax scam for the rich, the #TrumpBudget would take as much as $1.5 trillion out of Medicaid and $500 billion from Medicare.

😡Annoyed Thread😡

The #GOPTaxScam is the reason why some people need to pay attention. The amount of tweets we sent out saying, “call your congress.” People have to get involved. There are places you can go that will even give you a script when calling local congress.
I have noticed that my info tweets are the least liked and retweeted and get extremely low impressions. It’s really frustrating as we are meant to be activists trying to get things done. I joined Twitter in 2016 as the Resistance to help people to get involved.
But now it’s become a place of ridiculous FBR parties. Getting as many followers in a least amount of time. 1000 tweets and 80K followers. We tweeted and tweeted about how people were pretending to be Resistance and using these parties. Yet they are still going on. These are not

Not surprisingly, @realdonaldtrump’s @OMBPress Acting Director hasn’t done an assessment of the effects of cutting our Army Corp & infrastructure funds.

And he hasn’t incorporated any funding to prepare for the effects of #climatechange or sea level rise.
Much of the news coverage assumes #Trumpbudget will be taken seriously.

So far under @realDonaldTrump, Congress has three times passed bipartisan, bicameral spending measures that pretty much ignored Trump White House. politico.com/story/2019/03/…
Maybe this time will be different, but don’t bet on it.

When you start with a ludicrous budget, and no one in the administration can be trusted to negotiate with, you dial yourself out of the conversation.

President Trump finally released his 3rd budget request today, after a month's delay due to the government shutdown. And it’s a doozy.

FY 2020's #TrumpBudget goes even further than last year in bloating the already huge military budget to $750 billion.
nationalpriorities.org/blog/2019/03/1…
The FY 2020 #TrumpBudget's proposed $750 billion for military spending is a 5% increase, or $34 billion, from 2019's enacted budget.

That would put 57% of the $1.3 trillion discretionary budget into the Pentagon & nuclear weapons. nationalpriorities.org/blog/2019/03/1…
Compared to the #TrumpBudget's $750 billion for military spending, total funding for all other agencies, from the Department of Education to Veterans Affairs and NASA, is only $543 billion, down from $597 billion budgeted in 2019 — a 9% decrease.

JUST IN: @RepMarcyKaptur on the #TrumpBudget:

President Trump's cruel and shortsighted budget fails to reflect the values or best interest of the American people.

It would harm the Great Lakes, cut Social Security, and put seniors, the poor, and middle-class in further peril. Image
The #TrumpBudget is harmful to the environment, especially our Great Lakes Region, through a 90% cut to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and significant reductions to @ENERGY, @Interior, and @EPA. cleveland.com/open/2019/03/t…
When our government should be investing in job creating policies that improve America’s infrastructure, natural resources, and clean energy future, the Trump Administration would once again send the US in the wrong direction. #TrumpBudget

The Administration claims that the #TrumpBudget cuts non-defense discretionary program (NDD) funding “by 5%,” but this is inaccurate. 1/6
In reality, the #TrumpBudget cuts non-defense discretionary programs by 9% without adjusting for inflation, or 11% if inflation is taken into account, compared with 2019 funding levels. 2/6
The Administration has confused the depth of its cuts by using different figures in different places and in one case comparing apples and oranges. 3/6

In Congress, we’ve had a good record of passing bipartisan budgets in recent years. @realdonaldtrump and his impulsive White House haven’t helped.
Now he’s thinking of making cuts to #healthcare, education, protection for our air and water, #renewableenergy programs, and critical infrastructure funding to rebuild our roads and bridges – all to fund his big, dumb wall.

Mr. President, how about you let our bipartisan, bicameral #budget process play out and just stay out of it. #TrumpBudget

We’ll have analysis of the fiscal 2020 #TrumpBudget throughout the day. Here’s what’s already clear: The budget presents a deeply troubling vision for the nation. 1/8
It sharply cuts funding in the part of the budget that invests in future economic growth through education and training, scientific research, infrastructure and the like. 2/8 #TrumpBudget
It reverses progress in making affordable health care available to people who don’t have employer coverage or can’t afford private coverage; 3/8 #TrumpBudget

Trump's Robin Hood in reverse budget would be devastating for nearly every community across the U.S.

Here are just a few ways the #TrumpBudget would hurt:

Women
People with disabilities
Rural Americans
Communities of color
Children
Older Americans
LGBTQ individuals
Veterans
1. WOMEN

Women make up two-thirds of adults on Medicaid—which Trump calls for ending as we know it, leaving millions of women without health coverage. And he'd defund Planned Parenthood, cutting off access to family planning & well-woman care.

2. PEOPLE W/DISABILITIES

Trump’s deep Medicaid cuts jeopardize health care & vital services for 15M people w/disabilities. His budget also slashes #SocialSecurity disability benefits, housing for PWD--and even closes the Limb Loss Resource Center.

The #TrumpBudget is more than numbers on a page. It lays out an agenda to strip away people’s rights and health care. #HandsOff

Here’s what the plan would do. [Thread]
Gut both the Affordable Care Act and the #Medicaid program — the insurance plan for one in five women of reproductive age. For these women, Medicaid makes the difference between access to basic care, like birth control — or doing without.
Threaten 2.4 million people’s access to birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, and other preventive care at Planned Parenthood health centers.

A budget is a statement of priorities and values, and #TrumpBudget has made it abundantly clear that Trump does not care about the health of our families, our communities, our oceans, our rivers, or our public lands or keeping toxics away from our kids or out of our air and water
It seems like the only things the people in the Trump Administration care about are their own self-interest and the corporate polluters and billionaires that are running this administration. #TrumpBudget
