→ Proof that voting for Leave was a vote for the unknown…

Here’s a question for you, I wrote in my report of February 2016: ‘𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲?’

No, me neither.
But that’s what those campaigning for Britain to leave the #EU were expecting voters to do – vote to end our membership of the EU without knowing what we’d have instead.

The problem LEAVERS had is that they simply didn’t know, and for sure they couldn’t agree.
As a result, two rival, irreconcilable ‘Leave’ campaigns were launched in the run-up to the referendum:

#UKIP’s leader, Nigel Farage, supported one (Leave.EU) and @UKIP’s then only MP, Douglas Carswell, supported the other (#VoteLeave).

I wonder if #Brexit voters noticed that Turkey didn't join the #EU, that the #NHS didn't get hundreds of millions of pounds more each week, that fishermen & farmers are worse off, that small exporters are drowning in paperwork, that #European grants haven't been replaced....
In short the #VoteLeave project fear didn't come to pass, we didn't get our cake & eat it, nothing did actually stay the same for us as travellers, nor did Erasmus continue, scientific grants & joint projects were lost.
And the #Conservatives are even more divided after the referendum to unite them all.
Time to realign with our friends, our closest & largest trading partners, time to #RejoinEU, time to undo #Brexit chaos.

On Dec 12th 2019 I cried.

Every #Tory MP who signed up to #GetBrexitDone” however utterly sh*t it was, at THAT MOMENT, sealed our fate.

Personal ambition & greed trumped any sense of public duty or responsibility.

ANYTHING @BorisJohnson wanted to do was made possible.
1/
His wealthy backers & sycophantic MP & media facilitators rubbed their hands w/ glee, no-one could touch him now!

A man lacking any moral compass who dreamed of being king, a terrifying combination, both disastrous for the UK & lethal for many 1000s.

He simply does not care!
2/ ImageImageImage
From #Sewage on our beaches to the collapse of the #NHS, he does not care.

From sitting maskless & asleep beside #DavidAttenborough to departing #COP26 in a private jet, he does not care.

For the 1000s of avoidable #COVID deaths & 1000s more w/ #LongCovid, he does not care.

I just scrolled through a month's worth of @UKLabour tweets. 100s.

Not one word on #Brexit or #BrexitFoodShortages.

Not one.

The largest progressive party in Europe. Silent, as the #VoteLeave regime destroys the country.

The biggest failure of opposition in my lifetime.🤦
@Keir_Starmer: You demand we embrace the far right coup which has enabled obscene corruption, destroyed our influence, decimated exports, eroded standards and accelerated the gap between rich and poor.

Come to my door and tell me why. Follow me and DM me for the address.
Think I'm making it up? Try it for yourself. You'll wear your thumb out looking for a mention of Brexit in @UKLabour's official twitter feed.

@PickardJE The issue isn't that Turkey had a stalled EU application.

No. The issue here was a simple racist, xenophobic message:

74 million turks (and 'terrorists'!) -> 🇬🇧

Using Racism & xenophobia to instil fear every step of the way.
@PickardJE Look! If Turkey joins, Syria and Iraq will be 'flooding in' too! More brown muslims! #VoteLeave and save the nation from them.
@PickardJE There was a danger people may not have spotted the inference, so they made it clearer:

Look at those red countries. Syria!! IRAQ!!!!! COMING HERE!!!!!!!

And it's going to be "a deal"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Evil EU, plotting to flood blighty with terrorists)

1/. “Some may argue decisions made by the Dutch govt were just a series of errors of judgement. They were not. They were deliberate decisions. To allow the maximum number of people to get #COVID without overwhelming hospitals.”@SylvanaBIJ1

Sound familiar?
2/. The Dutch #COVID19 strategy mirrors the British👇

Described as “a masterclass in framing & gaslighting” PM Rutte announced in March their ‘strategy’ was #herdimmunity then tried to deny it

Is the involvement of shadowy company, Palantir, in both strategies pure coincidence?

In this chilling 2013 interview, @BorisJohnson admits he’s not really bumbling

“I’m hard as nails” he says

He also tells us “a terrible truth about politics & human nature”

That you can “make a good case for any course of action.” #HerdImmunity #COVID19
When the subject moves to ethics, @BorisJohnson becomes more guarded

Asked whether he believes one "can derive the ethics from the science" he avoids answering

Perhaps he’s aware that discussions of genomics can easily slip into the subject of eugenics.
I know!

Most of us switch-off at the mention of “genomics”, but it is crucial to understanding how the world is transforming & how “super forecasters” see the need for society to transform too

This thread👇offers a potted summary of just some of what is going on. #GenomeUK

The #BrexitDeal is better than #NoDealBrexit in the same way that shooting yourself in the leg is better than gouging your eyes out with a rusty spoon.

But congrats to the tories who gambled the country to silence the ERG, lost, and reinvented themselves as UKIP to survive.
We now begin a period where the British are second-class citizens in their own continent, less free than Romanians, with less say over our continent than Malta. Where uniquely, British businesses fight with one arm tied behind their backs with red tape, delays and costs.
Our buying power has withered overnight. We're paying almost double for our #COVIDVaccine than EU citizens. Supporters of the #VoteLeave regime demand you clap like seals as their second-rate trade deals trickle in, a notable absence being a US trade deal after 4 years.

It's an obvious fact, but it needs to be said:
A brexit that Boris Johnson openly says he needs to break the law to fix, and which Tory Brexiteers are quitting their jobs in protest against, would never have won in the 2016 referendum.
"If you #VoteLeave on 23 June, I'll step back and let a remainer handle it for 3yrs, condemn a deal she rejects then use it when I'm PM. After 4yrs of social unrest, I'll promise to end the chaos in an election then break international law to try keep control of Northern Ireland" Image

As support for #Brexit drains away, the 52% support withered to just 32% and falling, the country's finances short by £130 billion (before #COVID19), and with a #NorthKoreaBrexit looming that bears no relation to what #VoteLeave sold...

Got a feeling #RejoinEU is going to trend.
Don't get me wrong. We have massive domestic problems to address first, and frankly, we won't win #FPTP without a historic alliance, and selling that is hard. (Do help though!).

But imagine being a #Brexiter today. Their win looks more and more like when a country loses a war.
On the day that the #VoteLeave regime set the clock ticking to the most damaging form of Brexit in January, resolve to lay the foundation for a better future:

It is a monumental day in the Brexit process and one that I bitterly disagree with. There is NO excuse for Govt not to apply a reciprocal tariff for grains. 99.8% of households eat bread made with 85% British wheat. And we have a huge harvest surplus of grain.
And then there's eggs. We consume 13 billion eggs a year. 90% produced here. 56% Retail, 23% Food Service 21% liquid and dried egg. And now 0% tariff on all imports. We'll be importing eggs that would be illegal for our farmers to produce here.
And all fruit and vegetables NO reciprocal tariff.

SERIOUS QUESTION: What are the arguments for Brexit? I'm teaching a class about Brexit later this week, and I'd like to look at both sides. But can anyone tell me (or my students) what are the main arguments FOR Brexit? #Brexit #VoteLeave
Only two replies so far: one sarcastic and one moronic. Please! Can anyone give me a serious answer? Why did you #Voteleave? And why do you still want #Brexit?
I teach English as a Foreign Language to adults. They are as bewildered about Brexit as I am. I'm very aware of my own bias. I want them to discuss the arguments from both sides, and I will use tweets from this thread (both sensible and insane) to do so. Thanks 4 all the replies.

‼️VoteLeave: Electoral Fraud?

VoteLeave, the official referendum campaign that was partly funded with taxpayers’ money, looks to have committed what may be one of the biggest incidents of electoral fraud in Britain in more than a century
amp.theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
Compelling evidence provided by Shahmir Sanni, a Vote Leave whistleblower, Gavin Millar, a QC at Matrix Chambers, an expert in electoral law, told us that this was of a scale and seriousness that simply hasn’t been seen in Britain in modern times.

📌The investigation into VoteLeave is just one of a number of ongoing inquiries into potential crimes.

Many of which were facilitated by new technology.

👉🏼Facebook. Because – and this is the key point – this is an election that took place in darkness.

Vote for #Farage and get this. This man is Crispin Odey. He bankrolled #VoteLeave and made 220m when leave won by shorting the pound. Farage helped the markets to fluctuate when he 'conceded' the referendum early. You are being used to fill their pockets. #BrexitParty #EUElection
Odey also has links to Rees-Mogg. He helped Jacob set up his hedge fund, and also helped towards his election costs. They are all in this together, they pretend to care about the working-class, but in truth they are exploiting us to make more money. ft.com/content/a42110…

"If you're interested, & I'll fund it somehow, I think you're the perfect guy, what we'd like to do is help knit together a populist nationalist movement throughout the world."

Bannon talking to @Nigel_Farage re alliance with Orban, Sisi, Modi & Duterte.
“Paradoxically, this generation of populist nationalists leads the way on international political cooperation.”

@Elif_Safak adds more to #Bannon’s list: Erdoğan in Turkey, Abascal in Spain, Salvini in Italy & far right parties in Poland, France & Austria. google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theg…

So #VoteLeave chair @GiselaStuart (who I note quit as an MP in 2017 rather than try and make brexit work) apparently said on @talkRADIO this morning that she believed there were no leave voters on the #PeoplesVoteMarch a couple of weeks ago.

Let's examine that.

THREAD

1/n
So @GiselaStuart maybe you do not believe that #RemainerNow @Will_DryOFOC was at the #PeoplesVoteMarch. In fact he now works full time fighting #brexit with @OFOCBrexit & was one of the thousands of young people leading the march. Here he explains why

2/n
Or @GiselaStuart do you not 'believe' this little collage of evidence of leave voters @damidude @CharlesGallahe2, his brother, @hughnorris, @damidude @snoozette1 @MrsEmmaJK @andrewhardie3 all of whom are #RemainerNow &were at the #PeoplesVoteMarch on 20th Oct?

(1) Here's a short, intriguing story that is bound to be of interest to some. It involves @shahmiruk, @darrengrimes_, @chrisinsilico and @carolecadwalla. Also, among many others, @matthew_elliott, Dominic Cummings and @DanielJHannan.......
(2) It's a strange tale of how a collection of powerful, right wing, ideological #Tories took it upon themselves to employ, manage and manipulate the young, ambitious, and impressionable. Eventually using them toward a means to an end that has been decades in the making.......
(3) Wait? You know this story already? #VoteLeave set up a 'fake' company for a couple of students.... etc. etc. etc. Yes, that is correct. Except this wasn't the first time those behind the Vote Leave campaign had set up a fake firm in the name of young activists......
