11. United States decided to label #IRGC terrorists. But who are the real terrorists? Who created, trained, armed & financed the worst terrorist groups in the world?

Wrong US policies in the Middle East. Sanctions against Iran. Sanctions used by the USA as a war weapon🤨👇🏼

#Climatechange got you down? These 50 people will cheer you up. This month: I'm featuring @grist's 2019 #Grist50 Fixers here on my feed. There's more than one reason for you to feel good about the future! grist.org/grist-50/2019/
Meet Ploy Achakulwisut (@_aploy). She’s got climate #activism down to a science. Ploy dedicates her work — such as research connecting #AirPollution in the southwest U.S. to premature mortality — to furthering @climate awareness. #Grist50

What did it take for Robin Amer (@rsamer) to create an award-winning investigative #podcast on #environmental justice? Three years, more than 65 interviews, and one lawsuit against the @FBI. @thecitypod talks trash — and listeners love it. #Grist50

I finally forced myself to watch @ava’s #13th on @netflix. I know I am massively tardy to the party, but racial documentaries are hard for me. It was, of course, devastating, so I’m glad I’m grading at home today so I can process, seethe, mourn & completely avoid wypipo.
My first reaction was “Fuck, this [the systemic oppression of black people & destruction of black lives] is never going to end. Not until we upend every last piece of the existing systems.” Then I sat overwhelmed & crying bc the earth/humanity may not last long enough for that.
And let’s be clear, I read The New Jim Crow years ago (which is why I felt like I didn’t *need* to watch 13th), but watching the documentary tie these legacies to images/audio of #NotMyPresident brought it home in a new way emotionally for me rather than just intellectually.

"Why #SocialMovements Matter", a thread.

It's been a long time since I've written a whole #book in longhand. 1999 to be exact, under the trees in the Botanic Gardens @NBGIreland.

whysocialmovementsmatter.com, 30% off with code RLIJUNE18 Why Social Movements Matter book cover
My handwriting's got worse in the meantime, doing so much more by keyboard and screen. It's still a physically different experience, more thoughtful, more physically creative. There's a different kind of feedback as you see your writing change.
"Why Social Movements Matter" was an unintentional book. @GeoffreyPleyers and the remarkable @lecollege_em at @FondationMSH made it possible for me to spend a month just researching and writing - which is an incredible privilege.

A couple notes from my @ECAASU keynote from Friday night: Education is something that society tells us is required to be seen as being valued
and worthy. And at the same time, it enacts violence on many of the people who adhere to this narrative.
On Asian Americans being used as a pawn in anti-Affirmative Action cases: “The call to each of you is: get our
people! Get our people and educate them about what affirmative action is and isn’t and how admissions works.”
To be clear, Asian American people benefit from Affirmative Action. The majority of Asian American people support Affirmative Action. White people are using AA people to continue to subjugate other people of color. If this pisses you off, then I say again: get your people.

An activist organization with ties to Korea suddenly entered a public elementary school in Ginowan, Okinawa for political activism. It was a weekday & the children had classes. The organization didn't have an appointment with the school.
They came to the school without an appointment and asked to see the school's shelter. Unfortunately the school let them in & allowed the group to make political statements at the school.
It was the vice principal who led them around.
The school claimed they tried to shield the students from the activist group but there has been massive amounts of criticism by Japanese people towards the public school and the Korean activists.

I don’t have all the words for it yet, but if you don’t have Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha (@brownstargirl)’s new book Care Work, you need to go buy it right now. Now. Especially if you are disabled or a person of color or a femme or all of the above. It is...exceptional.
It reminds me of the intensely political, personal, fierce, healing writing of 80s WOC feminists like Audre Lorde & Gloria Anzaldúa. This book is intellectually & emotionally powerful. I’m buying copies for friends. I’m so blown away, so moved—truly a game changing collection.

If one more white person I’ve tells me they tweeted about #RKelly before seeing my thread...

Yall missing the point. The point is a racial trend. The point is societal silence on black survivors.
If you weren’t part of that silence I wasn’t talking to you, but maybe you should talk to your friends who keep @-ing me. Come collect all your people in my mentions saying off the wall shit. Keep doing your work rather than asking me to give you praise for on top of my own work.
If white people continue to only do their social justice work so that black women will be nice to them or thank them or whatever; if white folks only want to do good if they are recognized & acknowledged for it with unconditional praise, we’re never going to get anywhere.

Short thread on how I got involved in #Activism - I have been an activist since I was 17 (1989) - I campaigned with EarthWatch Ireland about, 'The Greenhouse Effect' (now #ClimateChange) raw sewage / river pollution and recycling.
In 1994, I moved to London for work and joined @GreenpeaceUK as a volunteer working on #StopEsso campaign and #SaveorDelete an Ancient Forests campaign. In 2002, #Banksy worked with us to create a poster and I was in charge of sending them around the UK along with this stencil
First rule of stenciling - Don't have your name printed on it!

@ClareICHH @IrishTimes @RadQueersResist @Wheelie_Happy @tcddublin @daimbarrs @ilainabananas @AineMulloy I'm surpassed #ThankUNext,
now at 'Thanks But No Thanks We Don't Need White People Judging Whether Our Cause Has Merit Or If We Should Yield And Let Our "Success Or Contribution To Feminism" Be Erased *Just A Little Bit* To Make Ethnonationalists More Comfy With Their Mistakes'
@ClareICHH @IrishTimes @RadQueersResist @Wheelie_Happy @tcddublin @daimbarrs @ilainabananas @AineMulloy Also - our "success or contribution to feminism" shaped Irish constitution without having a vote. We *are* Irish Feminists - our core tenets of intersectionality don't even all exist in British/American Feminism.

If you just mean 'white feminists' say it with your whole chest.
@ClareICHH @IrishTimes @RadQueersResist @Wheelie_Happy @tcddublin @daimbarrs @ilainabananas @AineMulloy I have to say it's a bit more than having 'felt unrepresented' when POCs, Queer and Trans and Disabled women all...were.
That's not an emotion, that's a fact.
But it's v in-keeping with their view that if an 'Irish feminist' looks in the mirror - they'd be none of those things.

my is my promised THREAD for my new essay: Putting the “Transgender Activists Versus Feminists” Debate to Rest (btw, it's on Medium, so please give it lots of "claps" so that others see it!) medium.com/@juliaserano/p… #transgender #women #feminism #LGBTQ #gender #activism
...I saw some wild claims about my piece yesterday, so I will attempt to clarify here. my first point: there is a long history of feminist debates and discourses regarding trans ppl. Talia Bettcher discusses this in her critique of that Stock piece: dailynous.com/2018/05/30/tab…
...as someone who has played a small part in that history, and who spends much of my time in feminist settings, I can tell you that the "feminist debate" regarding trans people is largely settled, as most contemporary feminist recognize that...

writing a new piece, which led me to thinking about this, so I thought I'd share: I'm a "generation X" person. this is not news, of course...
...but, as a young person (in my 20s), I identified as a Green (this was pre-Jill Stein awfulness). and most of my generational cohorts identified that or as anarchists...
...very few of us identified as socialists or communists, despite overlapping philosophies/goals. And it wasn't because we despised those ideologies per se...
