This is where I am coming from Image
#Brexitcast This thread looks to what might happen if Johnson wins an outright majority in the Commons, with his MPs all committed to his Brexit Withdrawal Agreement (WA). It examines the prospects for a Free Trade Agreement with the EU (EU-FTA) and its consequences for the UK.

Excellent someone talking sense. Why anyone believes that this Gordian knot can be untied is a mystery to me. Leaving aside the DUP, anything acceptable to the ERG will not acceptable to Labour and vice versa. However....
... there is a obvious @BorisJohnson / Dominic Cummings game plan in all this.
1. It’s too late for a deal
2. A hint of a deal is a reason for an extension
3. An extension preserves govt.
4. Remainers can be blamed when it falls over
5. And Boris gets to choose timing of GE /2
Of course none of this would be possible if @uklabour were not still paralysed by the indecisiveness of their increasingly isolated leader. /3

It's another beautiful #swotsunday morning, we wish everyone a wonderful #PalmSunday & #GameofThrones weekend.

Today, we will examine the impact of post #Brexit on the United Kingdom.

#SundayThoughts #SundayMorning #BrexitDay #BrexitDelay #brexitdirectaction #Brexitcast
The word #Brexit is simply an acronym for Britain exit. The United Kingdom consist of England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. The UK became a member of the European Union (EU) in 1973, but wanted to backout after only two years of its membership.
However, the majority of those that participated in the referendum voted for the UK to remain as a member of the union.

The recent agitation for Brexit led to another voting process taking place across the UK.

1. Interesting, another move from No 10 to show its mind as well as the black door is open to ideas from Brexit critics - they've just announced a consultation to increase protection of rights of new parents going back to work
2. That's promises of environmental protections, these parental rights now, and the EU citizens' fee being scrapped - PM seems eager to show that when MP s go in and explain their positions they might get something out of it but they have a long, long way to go
3. Biggest piece of jigsaw is still to get something new on the backstop - and note, No 10 not expecting anything before the next vote on Tuesday altho EU is clearly doing a less good job than usual as sticking to one line!

A lot of echoes of morning after election when PM gave a speech that she could have given almost any day of the campaign - she said she had listened in that speech just there, but showed v little intent of changing v much at all
Of course her colleagues in govt relieved that she can try to carry on but it's a survival not success tonight - another big knock to the PM's credibility, and no solution at all to the gridlock in Parliament - she's survived, her brexit compromise can't in its current form
But the one uncertainty removed, she can't face another vote of confidence from her own party for a year - but that doesn't mean the govt can get through another period like this in Parliament

It's not going exactly to plan, and is a bit behind schedule, but rather a lot of the leaked grid does appear to be, the govt's actual grid - the one that 'wasn't the plan'....currently expect Brexit vote to be Weds 12th December bbc.com/news/uk-politi…
It's going to feel a bit like an election, except May is only candidate and MPs are the voters - get ready for it with #Brexitcast which will be ready for download bright and early in time for your journey to work (unless you're up at horror o'clock like me)
will post link then - almost it for tonight except.....

Shorter #brexitcast
Irish Backstop

GB-NI remain in "single customs territory, but NI is treated 'as if' in the EU, following Union Customs Code and SM rules.

This will persist "unless and until" (Article 1) it is superseded by arrangement that obviates need. 1/
BUT this is balanced this with an assertion that the arrangements are “intended to apply only temporarily” and - in Article 2(1) - a commitment that that both sides “shall use their best endeavours” to reach that “subsequent agreement”. /2
The protocol then sets out three options to be considered in July 2020 as the end of the transition approaches - either conclude a deal, “extend” the transition period (with payments to be agreed) or trigger the Irish backstop noted above. /3

Not sure this thread is yet finished, but as ever a very good summary on where we are from @pmdfoster. Ireland border still the major issue, Chequers was dead on arrival but the EU doesn't know how to handle the future relationship declaration being empty
As yet none of today's informed views from the likes of @pmdfoster and @BrunoBrussels change my view that the most likely Brexit outcome is the two sides finding a way to a 'cryonic Brexit'
Update. The @pmdfoster thread is finished. Bit more gloomy than @BrunoBrussels about finding a solution. Both in the realms of not much happening until November, which I think I said on the last July #Brexitcast...
