Procrastination has become an unavoidable element of modern living.

There's a saying - "Take action today for a better tomorrow."

Rising volume in $XLK, $VTV, and good enough $SMH transparently prepared the ground for improving #ES market breadth – but the one factor that made me reconsider the requisites of the medium-term (bearish) outlook, was this.
Financials.

2. Back when I took the MT bearish view (mid Mar), it was well justified as two significant #banks had fallen, $CS was getting back on the radar screen, #deposit outflows continued, and demand for the #Fed emergency programs was rising.
It was questionable whether $KRE and $XLF
3. would stabilize.
The incentives for #deposit outflows were still present (#Fed hadn‘t yielded to market pressures to ease, and still doesn‘t, short-term #yields kept solidly above 5%, #Fed balance sheet kept declining, #M2 and #margin debt shrinking while consumer #inflation

the propaganda from the @elonmusk / @mtaibbi / @ShellenbergerMD #fascist circle is insidious because it's seasoned with just enough truth to be plausible.

their narrative about corrupt government involvement with corporate rule *starts* from a place of truth, but...

(cont'd)
...the @GOP is NOT less corrupt than @TheDemocrats in this regard; Republican fascism and corporate corruption go hand in hand. the first openly fascistic GOP presidency, @RonaldReagan's, was marked by scandals and crooked deals with lobbyists:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reagan_ad…

(cont'd)
in a sense, the @elonmusk / @mtaibbi gang are weaponizing their own crimes—Matt Taibbi has gotten as far as he's gotten because he himself is nurtured by "Deep State" connections. that is to say, he's being propped up from behind, by Republican crooks in government.

#imagination!

imagination is life. imagination is central to thought.

it's also vital to the _tokusatsu_ show "Ressha Sentai ToQger", vide infra. "ToQger" is a favorite of ours—the heroes' greatest strength is their imagination, which their enemies hope to snuff out.

(cont'd)
in Western society, only a few persons are allowed to have #imagination. it's true. imagination, in most persons in "the West", is punished.

consider the @elonmusk / @mtaibbi cult: the reason that Elon Musk is so adored is that he's allowed to have a free imagination.

(cont'd)
there's nothing very much *original* about @elonmusk's imagination, which has an antique quality about it. it's not merely a question of advancing years, although Musk (despite his babyish personality) is getting old. Akira Kurosawa was imaginative till the day he died.

we weren't *great* students in college. we maybe got as many Fs as As, if not more. we failed out of @Caltech completely! still we struggled and pushed our way towards our degrees. here's two of them.

as a result, we've seen a lot of people like @NateSilver538. *fakers*.

(1/x)
while we were at @SDSU especially, which was a very big and crowded school full of people studying every conceivable subject, it was impossible not to run into people like @NateSilver538, @mattyglesias, @mtaibbi, &c.—people who thought that "higher learning" was a crock.

(2/x)
likely they were there mostly out of a sense of family obligation: their parents had money and power over them and pushed them to get a degree chiefly because college degrees are vital to social status in "the West". #capitalism may hate education but it loves *degrees*.

@WholeMarsBlog now...this sort of thing is very interesting. it's speculative and futile, nonsensical even, but these little arithmetic calculations are one of the chief preoccupations of the grifter class—the #entrepreneur class, the #investor class, the #cryptocurrency gambler class.

~Mona
@WholeMarsBlog @WholeMarsBlog, @APompliano, @BillyM2k, and all the other grifting rag-tag who are wont to dangle after @elonmusk (or any other wealthy and famous person whom they perceive as blessed with #success) spend huge amounts of time with these napkin-scribblings that forecast *riches*.
@WholeMarsBlog @APompliano @BillyM2k @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog starts out with a false assumption: @Tesla will be able to extract cash from literally every car driver in the country. this is their presumed #market, and it's deliberately chosen to be as broad as possible, so as to forecast even greater riches from extorting it.

Today, at the 2021 review day with the @Zeppelin_Labs team, I shared a lightning talk on @shreyas high agency thread (twitter-learing at its maximum).
As a closing activity I asked each teammate to write on a low agency attitude we wanted to leave behind in 2021 and a high agency-related skill/attitude/task we would like to work on 2022.
Finally, each of us left their post it on the wall, and took someone else’s. We read aloud and teared down the low-agency related and took home the high-agency one as inspiration for 2022.

Sis, You Said No To Him Already, So Why Are You Still Monitoring His Life?

Why are you stalking him, really? Why are you checking his social media to see if he has the picture of another lady? You already said you weren’t interested, so why?
I’m talking to you my dear, why so bothered? Why do you still look out for him at events or gatherings? Oh, I get it, the Bible tells you to be your brother’s keeper, so you’re trying to do your part innit? Lmao!
I’m not done... why does your stomach knot when you see him talking to another lady? What’s the challenge? I mean, the young gentleman met you and spoke to you about his interest, you said no,

Been a while since I finished a book in one sitting but #ThinkAgain by @AdamMGrant was that good. A thread with some of my key takeaways:
#Confidence is a measure of how much you believe in yourself versus your methods. You can be confident in your ability to achieve a goal in the future while maintaining the humility to question whether you have the right tools in the present. That's the sweet spot of confidence.
We should strive to attain confident humility: having faith in our capability while appreciating that we may not have the right solution or even be addressing the right problem - giving us enough doubt to re-examine our old knowledge and enough confidence to pursue new insights.

The @NFIB #survey doesn't get much #media attention, but it should. Small businesses make up almost 70% of #employment and their #confidence tells us much about the #economy and #smallcap stocks.
realinvestmentadvice.com/nfib-survey-se…
In December, the #NFIB survey declined to 95.9 from a peak of 108.8. Notably, many suggest the drop was “#politically driven” by #conservative owners. While there was indeed a drop following the election, the decline continues what started in 2018.

Hopes for a #strong #economic recovery may be premature. While #stimulus will give a short-term lift to the economy, once it is spent, growth fades. Businesses won't #invest into artificial supports.

1/4) In 75 BC, a band of pirates captured a young Roman nobleman who was on his way to study in Rhodes. From the start the 25-year-old Julius Caesar refused to behave like a captive. When the pirates told him that they had set his ransom at the sum of 20 talents of silver...
2/4) ..he laughed at them for not knowing who it was they had captured and demanded they raise his ransom to 50 talents! Settling in to wait for the ransom to arrive, Caesar bossed the pirates around, made them listen to his speeches and shushed them whenever he wanted to sleep..
3/4) ..always addressing the pirates as if he were their commander and they were his subordinates. In the 38 days it took for the ransom to arrive, Caesar would often tell his captors that after his release he would return and crucify them all - at which they would merely laugh..

In a recent paper, with Alexander Chudik @DallasFed, M Hashem Pesaran @USCDornsife, @mraissi80 @IMFNews & @arebucci1 @JHUCarey, we develop a threshold-augmented dynamic multi-country model (#TGVAR) to quantify the #macroeconomic effects of #Covid19: econ.cam.ac.uk/research/cwpe-… 1/n Image
Key challenges with the empirical #economic analysis of #Covid19 include the following: how to identify the shock, how to account for its non-linear effects, & how to quantify its effects while accounting for spillovers, common global factors, network effects and uncertainty. 2/n
We contribute to the literature by addressing these issues in a coherent multi-country framework. We offer an identification strategy for the #Covid19 shock considering that a synthetic control method cannot be applied in the context of a global #pandemic. 3/n

Lets talk about the macroeconomic impact of #COVID19 in the short-medium term. The pandemic continues to have broad based devastating effects, crippling global economic activity. Fiscal & monetary policy is loose, to "ease" the virus' blow. What of a #Vaccine? Will you take It?
The global economic recovery hinges on the flattening both the #COVID19 infection curve and the economic recession curve. Negative output gaps imply activity below potential. The expectation, is for a vaccine to help towards herd immunity, thus flattening the infection curve...
It is expected that if a #Vaccine is made widely available & the uptake significant, economic activity will pick up & supply chains resuscitated. This will help flatten the recession curve. Ergo, all appears to rest on the production of a vaccine. But again, will you take it?

@slangwise Looking at potential retracement levels, to the lows of 2018, or the highs of 2015-2016 would not be out of the ordinary. A mean reversion event would be the lows of 2016 to the highs of 2008.

@slangwise A problem with #market #corrections always overlooked by #mainstream #analysis.
If you need 6% per year to reach your goals, and suffer a 20% correction, it doesn't require JUST 25% to get back to even. You have to ALSO make up the 6%/year lost as well.
