The parties seek to narrow the lawsuit to just copyrighted works that have been registered, which might remove Ortiz and McKernan as plaintiffs.

It's established that to bring a copyright infringement claim in federal court, a copyright owner must first register their work with the U.S. Copyright Office and obtain the completed registration.

#Enshittification is platforms devouring themselves: first they tempt users with goodies. Once users are locked in, goodies are withdrawn and dangled before businesses. Once business customers are stuck, all value is claimed for platform shareholders:

Even though the claims about "#AI" are overblown and overhyped, creators are right to be alarmed. Their bosses would like nothing more than to fire them and replace them with pliable software. 3/

40 years ago, giant entertainment companies embarked on a slow-moving act of arson. The fuel for this arson was #copyright #TermExtension (making copyrights last longer), including *retrospective* copyright term extensions that took works out of the #PublicDomain. 1/

Term extension put public domain works back into copyright for decades. Vast swathes of culture became off-limits, pseudo-property with absentee landlords, with much of it crumbling into dust. 3/
