The UK signed a defence agreement with Saudi Arabia, related to partnership on the Future Combat Air System.
The agreement was a "Declaration of Intent", with the next steps being a feasibility study into the partnership.

Can we have a bit of honesty about the UK joining the #CPTPP please.

2) In joining we become committed to a common set of trade laws and regulations, much as we were under the single market. So the much hailed #sovereignty we won from #Brexit is being given up with not so much as a whisper. 2/ @RishiSunak

Taiwan's Executive Yuan announced tonight that #Taiwan has officially applied to join #CPTPP and will notify all member states to get their support. The news comes after #China also launched its bid to join CPTPP. cna.com.tw/news/firstnews…
The spokesperson said that the goal of joining #CPTPP has been one of the main goals of this government since @iingwen became #Taiwan President in 2016. He said all government departments have join the efforts of preparing for this bid.

So, the 11 members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement Trans-Pacific Partnership (#CPTPP) have agreed to start negotiations for the UK to accede.

What are the #CPTPP’s rules on accession?
The accession candidate (here the UK) must be “prepared to comply with the obligations in this Agreement”, although negotiation is envisaged. Final approval is needed by each of the countries concerned.

1. Would the UK joining #CPTPP be beneficial? Yes, but the benefits would be limited—distance does matter, even with services, and CPTPP is thin on services.

If you want to join EU you have to comply with stringent democratic standards. Clearly that doesn't apply to the CPTPP because Brunei is an absolute monarchy, Vietnam is a one party state and both countries, along with Malaysia and Singapore still use the death penalty.
As for LGBT rights well in Brunei, Malaysia and I believe Singapore it's illegal to be gay. I'm sure someone will tell me about others. But seriously are these the trade partners we want? We're leaving the democratic EU for this?
Oh and in Brunei the penalty for being convicted of loving someone of the same gender is "death by stoning". But you know... you celebrate if you want to #CPTPP

...that it will respect the rules of any international agreement at this point is beyond me.

Professor @mahbubani_k , founding dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, told @caixin that he is “very encouraged” by Li’s “strong and powerful” signal about joining the #CPTPP, which would “make the region much more stable”.

Key finding 1: Since our last survey, Canadian exporters have become more optimistic about the near-term outlook - due to by higher expected domestic and export sales.
1: I worry sometimes that too much of our narrative about modern Asia is overly Sinocentric -- Chinese advance, Chinese growth, Chinese initiative ... and then US/allied reaction. But this misses much of the story of Asia's last three decades.
2. For example, it has become fashionable to ascribe efforts to build a pan-Asian economic/institutional order to rising Chinese assertiveness or, more precisely, to Chinese ambition. And that is a simple, straightforward enough narrative. But it is just one part of the story.
3. Thus contemporary Asian regionalism for instance—the desire to forge at least some cohesion out of the region’s enormous diversity—has found expression not just in China but across Asia and over many decades.
