1/25. Today is the ninth day of the #BonnClimateConference (#SB58) and it saw the continuation of discussions on the #SantiagoNetwork for #LossAndDamage, a number of excellent side events, and importantly the adoption of the agenda. Here are some of our highlights!🧵 Image
2/25. This morning kicked off with three #LossAndDamage side events happening at the same time! Sadly we could not get to them all, but the good news is that there are webcasts with which to revisit them.
3/25. They included: "#HumanRights, #ClimateChange and disaster induced migration and #Displacement: Regional Perspectives" with @UUSC, @esperance_ong, @ALIANZAAMERICAS.

1/14. 📜Powerful new report to the #UN General Assembly by the @SRClimateChange Ian Fry makes crystal clear that #LossAndDamage from #ClimateChange is causing a litany of #HumanRights impacts. 🧵
2/14. In its introduction, the report highlights the inequality at the heart of the #ClimateCrisis: "50% of countries are responsible for 86 % of the cumulative global CO2 emissions", #AtmosphericColonization, and why #ClimateReparations are being demanded for #LossAndDamage.
3/14. Chapter three "#LossAndDamage: a litany of #HumanRights impacts" starts by highlighting that from a #HumanRights perspective #LossAndDamage is "closely related to the right to remedy and the principle of #Reparations".

I had a chance to go to this @VSOrchestra Orpheum Theatre built after the Spanish Flu to be *pandemic proof* and WOW. This ventilating system is FULLY OPERATIONAL. Huge crowd 1/n Image
@VSOrchestra And under the seats there were these mushroom shaped objects...Fresh air from pipes provided a very gentle stream of air & note these air intakes were protected by the mushroom design. the stem emitted air, the umbrella part protected it 2/n ImageImage
@VSOrchestra The air rose above the seats to the porous false ceiling above to vent all that air out! This was built in 1927 & it has better ventilation than most modern buildings #PandemicProof architecture 3/n Image

1/4. Chikapar was thrice displaced, first for the HAL MIG project, then for a naval munitions depot and once for a Military Engineering Service station. The only village to have taken on the army, navy, air force – and lost. Story link at end of thread.

2/4. All three times, the displacement of this Koraput village was for ‘development.’ Mukta Kadam was evicted the first time herding her five children through jungle on an angry monsoon night. The second time, she was thrown out with her grandchildren.
#displacement #ruralindia Image
3/4. The Chikapar land taken for the MIG project was not used for that purpose, nor returned to the original owners. That is, Gadaba tribals (like Mukta Kadam), other Adivasis like Parojas and Doms (a Dalit community).

We invite you to check out the work of MADAR's amazing partners in Morocco, Algeria, & Tunisia, starting with a 🧵 about our pre-call workshops, which brought together a range of actors to identify key research & action priorities @GCRF @ahrcpress @KeeleUniversity @KeeleInclusion
The pre-call workshops were spaces for exchange between civil society, practitioners, researchers, cultural actors, and artists working on the themes of #migration, #displacement, and #protection of vulnerable displaced persons in the context of conflict
In Morocco, the team (@AisblRacines and AMI) organized six regional workshops in six Moroccan regions (Casablanca-Settat, Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Draa Tafilalet, Fès-Meknès, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Souss-Massa) between November and December 2020

A THREAD: Why such massive #cocaine shipments and large port #seizures in Europe? This drug trade in pandemic has had a particular trajectory.
👇
1/ the pandemic moved different from east to west north to south
2/ by looking at ports and trade from Latin America to major European ports I had found that container shipments did not always reduce but often routes were modified to serve ports differently (more stops regionally; longer trips) researchgate.net/publication/34…
3/ as the pandemic affected Europe and North America ahead of Latin American countries, producers produced and traffickers tried to traffic as much as they could to build #cocaine reserves. This is why we had huge seizures in April/June last year. So that they wouldn’t run out.

Many cannot imagine the end of the #capitalism - yet, the #rulingclass lives in fear of this very real threat.

Many believe we are powerless - yet, the ruling class fear #revolt/rejection of the system.

May 27 2014: Christine Lagarde (#IMF) talks #Marx:

Jan 23, 2014 Bloomberg interview with Lagarde at the World Economic Forum:

"Essentially what we believe is needed - is a #reset of the way in which the economy grows around the world."

Sept 18, 2020, WWF Too Big To Fail:

"#Ecosystems are assets. We are talking about an asset mgt. problem."

No. Ecosystems are biological COMMUNITIES that exist for their own purposes. Not ours.

Depraved #WEF, #WWF et al. after decades of plunder, plan to seize what remains. Image
"As we navigate our way through the biggest #economic #crisis since the 2nd world war, we are still facing the existential threat of biodiversity loss & climate change."

They do not give a fuck about biodiversity. They trashed it for profits. They do not care about the climate. Image
What they do care about. Protecting & expanding current power structures. Protecting the ruling class to which they belong. Profit$.

Markets are not the solution to the accelerating biodiversity crisis & ecological breakdown. They are the cause.

Some key takeaways from @lhammondsoas on Day 1 of @GCRF @UKRI_News #GCRFAddis
1️⃣ Vulnerability is rooted in multiple inequalities
2️⃣ Vulnerabilities shift and change over time
3️⃣ Migration is important mechanism for coping with vulnerability
4️⃣ Policy can increase vulnerability
First #GCRFAddis panel on youth, gender and remittances. Interesting findings from @REFHorn on complex and variable ways in which youth training programmes in Uganda influence migration decisions including whether to return to S Sudan, move within country, migrate internationally
Context is everything in designing youth employment programmes. Fascinating example from @neelamraina on ways Kashmiri culture and identity shape hopes/aspirations of young people for the future. If difference makes you who you are then programmes should build on this #GCRFAddis

A #data informed look at how the #human experience of #lawyering has changed over time.

Just as #clients need better #value propositions, #law firms need better business models. Meaningful #legal #transformation will occur where the two intersect.

legalevolution.org/2019/02/pay-ho…
H/T to @augierakow @robsaccone for the post #inspirelegal 🤓 email chain that #inspired this tweetable.

(Bc I’m a tweetable factory. 🤷🏻‍♀️)
Another reaction to this @wihender post: we NEED to deal with #automation anxiety in #legal.

Legacy models of law practice aren’t built for the pace of #business and volume of #information of the #digital age.

More #hours from more #lawyers can’t be the default answer.
