Injuries reported after an explosion targets a tourist bus near the Grand Egyptian Museum near Egypt's famous Giza pyramids; 14 reported injured.
Video footage of the bus explosion in Egypt.

My input:
The regime in #Iran is under increasing global & domestic pressure.
Tehran needs such incidents to divert attention & also send a message.
Don't be surprised if the mullahs' fingerprints are found.
"Egyptian officials say a roadside bomb has hit a tourist bus near the Giza Pyramids. They say Sunday’s blast wounded at least 16 people, including tourists."

This is the dilemma, & the sociopolitical & socioeconomic crisis of identity that is now playing-out in front of the watching world, via the impasse of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) & “The People” that are STILL Protesting on the streets after Omer Al-Bashir’s ousting
from power.

In Khartoum (formerly within a united-Sudan), the mixing of politics with ethnicity has ALWAYS been the root cause of problems.
Islam & Politics only became a factor in the mid 1980s, with the Bashir/NIF partnership; & all just as a desperate attempt at domestic

One of these days, the white Christian Brotherhood in US will finally be held accountable. Because whiteness & Christianity are considered default in the US, these same Evangelicals hold the Muslim Brotherhood accountable in ways they refuse for themselves…
Shooter at synagogue in Poway, Calif. “appears to have written a 7-page letter spelling out his core beliefs: that Jewish people, guilty in his view of faults ranging from killing Jesus to controlling the media, deserved to die. That his intention to kill Jews would glorify God.”
I oppose the Muslim Brotherhood & military rule in #Egypt. But the hypocrisy 👇🏽! Same white US Christian Brotherhood are celebrating this move by Trump, days after synagogue shooting.…

The larger game of #Arabs vs. #MuslimBrotherhood is a conflict that is quietly playing out diplomatically across the region. #Qatar & #Erdogan strongly support MB, #Egypt/#KSA/#UAE strongly opposed to MB, #Sudan has overthrown MB, and #Kuwait/#Jordan/#Tunisia are in the middle.
Besides #MuslimBrotherhood's quest to overthrow govts and bring idealistic Muslim rule, the other threat facing the region comes from #ISIS & #IRGC, representing Sunni & Shia religious extremism. Both want to overthrow govts and introduce their own versions of Islam.
Where is #Pakistan in this game? Most #Pakistani elite don't even know what's happening on the ground. Few at Pak military+MOFA understand & follow this. #MuslimBrotherhood existence in Pak is negligible & peaceful, but #ISIS/#IRGC represent a threat and are being countered.

Lemme translate : authoritarians ❤️ authoritarians.

Cairo, Egypt - billboard propaganda poster proclaiming El Sisi’s love for Donald Trump (1/4 outside the US Embassy - h/t @miloflamingo).
Addendum: “security and stability” are translating code words for “mutual support for tyrannical surveillance, brutally crushing all types dissent, war on civil liberties, and praise for a small elite who benefits from the asymmetric impact of globalization and neoliberalism.”
The “security and stability” imperative in Egypt (and elsewhere) actively supported by previous US presidents is precisely how and why Mubarak was in power for so long.

The problem is endemic and systemic to US geopolitical alliances. Trump and El Sisi are just more flagrant.

#Egypt is hosting an Africa human rights session beginning April 24, 2019, while its government is presiding over the worst human rights crisis in the country in recent decades, 15 African, Egyptian, and international organizations said today.…
#Egypt is trying to appear like a country open for human rights delegates and sessions while, at the same time, crushing all dissenting voices and its once-vibrant human rights community,”
“In recent years, the #Egyptian authorities have relentlessly cracked down on nongovernmental organizations, issued the 2017 draconian law that effectively bans all independent work by nongovernmental groups, and prosecuted scores of staff workers of Egyptian organizations.”

.@hrw: the constitutional amendments were "a shameless attempt to entrench the military's power over civilian rule, and the referendum took place in such an unfree and unfair environment that its results can have no pretence to legitimacy".… #Egypt
Opposition figures alleged that the government had denied #Egyptians freedom to express peacefully opposition to the changes before the vote and that it had used public money to distribute electoral bribes.
There were reports during the referendum that some people were offered free rides to their local polling stations or given food parcels once they’d voted. An activist was arrested for holding up a banner saying "No to the constitutional amendments" #Egypt

Sisi was head of military intelligence when the military sexually assaulted #Egyptian women activists by subjecting them to “virginity tests.” Women who support Sisi are like women who vote for Trump: footsoldiers of the patriarchy
I wrote about Trump, Sisi, and patriarchy here, published day of Trump Inauguration…
There are women who support patriarchy bec they accept its crumbs of power. In #Egypt the military - fascists w/guns - & Muslim Brotherhood - fascists w/religion - are not friends of women or feminism. Both have female supporters. I am an enemy to patriarchy & its footsoldiers.

#FF @maitelsadany on #Egypt constitutional amendments. And invite her to speak at all hearings on Egypt. I am sick and fucking tired of seeing just Egyptian men speak about Sisi and his fascism. There are women in Egypt. There are Egyptian women who are experts on our country.
This is why I wrote my 2012 essay Why Do They Hate Us? & my 1st book Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution: as with almost every revolution, regardless of risks we women took, it would crystallize into one group of men fighting aother group of men.
And ICYMI, patriarchy being its universal self: one group of men fighting another group of men is an apt way of describing US election coverage: mentions of male candidates have been consistently higher than women & women candidates receive disproportionately negative coverage.

This is outrageous: #Egypt's parliament - dominated by Sisi supporters - will vote on Tuesday on constitutional amendments including an extension to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's current four-year-term…
“according to a recent draft seen by Reuters, those latest amendments could allow Sisi to stay in power until 2030 by extending his current term by two more years and allowing him to run once again in 2024.” #Egypt
The proposed changes also call for setting up a second parliamentary chamber to be known as the Senate, composed of 180 members, and giving the president new powers over appointing judges and the public prosecutor. #Egypt

Zia knew he had zero support from People hence he decided to take support from Mullahs and he ensured that hardcore Islam penetrate each institution in #Pakistan including #Army & #ISI !
#Soviet invaded #Afghanistan in 1979, #Zia used this opportunity to the fullest .

"It’s somewhat remarkable that the Sissi regime still finds ways to be even more repressive than it was before"

My thoughts on #Egypt's rather maximalist interpretation of what an autocracy can and should be, in @emilyctamkin's new @washingtonpost piece:…
The sad lesson of the Arab Spring is that extreme levels of repression can "work," at least in the short term. I wish it were otherwise, and maybe one day it will be
It didn't *have* to be this way, and I suppose there's a counterfactual history of the Arab Spring that exists in parallel in the world that never was. One of the things that could have produced the counterfactual (before it never was) was heavy costs imposed by the US and others

Today is the anniversary of the illegal and ruinous #US invasion of #Iraq. I joined hundreds of thousands who protested it in #NYC and other cities. Remember how #Bush, the CIA, rendition & “confessions” by torture in #Egypt were instrumental.… After Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi, a Libyan captured in Afghanistan, was rendered by the United States to Egypt in 2002, Egyptian interrogators beat him and subjected him to a “mock burial” by putting him in a cramped box for 17 hours. He fabricated information that Iraq had provided training in chemical and biological weapons to operatives of Al Qaeda.
16yrs later, George W. Bush has since been rehabilitated out of the war criminal he is & into a cuddly artist grandpa, and several of his war administration, instead of being held accountable for war crimes in #Iraq, continue drumming war for Trump or on Twitter play “Resistance”
Trump is a continuation, not an aberration. The roots that brought him to fruition are much deeper than the Bush administration. Bush launched two wars against Muslim majority countries. Obama left office with the US militarily involved in at least 5 Muslim countries.

Kashif’s legal team do not know who ordered the forced anal examinations but have pledged to take legal action against the party responsible.

Forced anal examinations are routinely performed by Egyptian investigators on detainees authorities identify as trans women or gay men.

My sister and I were texting yesterday about death. I knew someone on the Ethiopian Airlines crash and mothers of 2 of her friends died recently. To be human is largely to forget - and to do all we can to forget -that we are going to die. And in between, we’re the walking wounded
I think of the ways we cope and don’t cope and can’t cope with grief on days like this when it’s almost impossible to grasp the pain felt by loved ones of 49 people shot to pieces at mosque where they’d gone for community and prayer.
I reported on a train disaster in #Egypt years ago and I will never forget the man who’d just come out of the morgue with his dead wife’s wedding ring in his fingers, in shock and saying over and over “This is all I have left of her.” How do you recover and live? Do you recover?
