Great news for Aba, one of Nigeria’s most important manufacturing hubs:

“Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) has completed the final phase of its 20km domestic gas pipeline expansion project in Abia State, connecting Agbor Hill, Osisioma & Araria industrial zones.” shell.com.ng/media/2020-med…
“The project has also enabled the supply of pipeline gas to Ariaria Market Energy Solutions Limited, the Independent Power Project (IPP) consortium that provides electricity to the popular Ariaria market in Abia State.“
There’s a 9.5MW gas-fired plant built for Ariaria, under the Buhari Administration’s #EnergizingEconomies Initiative. With this new @Shell Pipeline, I’m guessing Gas supply is guaranteed. When I visited Jan 2019 they were regularly trucking Gas in from PH

BRF: “Reality before privatization is that Ministry of Power had over 50,000 staff, owned trucks, employed electricians who went out to repair faults, controlled power stations like Jebba,Kainji, Egbin & employed all who worked in Distribution. All that is gone, since Nov 2013.”
BRF: “From over 50,000 staff, the Ministry now has a staff strength of 729 people. There are no electricians, fitters, repair vehicles or distribution staff in our ministry anymore and we do not supply, repair or replace distribution transformers or meters.”
BRF: “All of these are now the work of the DisCos, under contract with BPE and under license by NERC as a matter of Law.”

Spending the morning on a Rice Mill in Kano. They’re reporting a massive increase in quantity (and quality) of available paddy - a lot of people have gone into farming, & milling capacity also growing fast. This rice revolution is real, people google.com/amp/s/amp.ft.c…

Local production is up significantly, but we still have some way to go until it meets all of local demand. That’s the simple reason why it’ll take some time for prices to come down to levels Nigerians are anticipating. Demand is still ahead of supply, but supply is growing fast.
MD of one of the Rice Mills in Kano tells me: “A lot of people have gone back to the farms. People are now struggling to find land to farm. Places that were uncultivated before have now turned to farms... It’s not just rice, it’s beans, maize, etc.”

Nigeria’s creation of a renewable energy department is “really a major shift,” said Ina Hommers, head of GIZ’s Nigerian Energy Support Program. “It’s going to make Nigeria more independent from other costly energy resources. And it creates additional jobs ‘cos it’s a new sector.”
Useful to add: @AsoRock very actively pushing solar agenda, through @realREANigeria’s initiatives: #EnergizingEducation, #EnergizingEconomies, etc. 13,000 shops in SabonGari Market, Kano being powered using solar(photos below). Also Nig issued debut Sovereign #GreenBond a year ago

Video from earlier this year when VP visited the FG's Electrification Project in Ariaria Market, Aba, Abia State. The Buhari Administration, under its #EnergizingEconomies Programme, led by @realREANigeria, is enabling stable and reliable power to the market's 37,000 shops.
This was Muhammadu Buhari campaigning in Aba Jan 2015. Note the emphasis on ensuring power supply for the entrepreneurs of Aba.

The Ariaria Electrification Project is in fulfilment of that promise. A 9.5MW Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Plant is under construction for the Market
1st Photo is what the construction of the Ariaria IPP - an initiative of @realREANigeria, as part of its #EnergizingEconomies Programme - looked like in May 2018.

The next two photos show the project in Nov 2018.

When completed 37,000 shops will benefit. A promise fulfilled.

Dear @ProfOsinbajo @tundefashola I was at Sura market and I saw abandoned generators, emptied generator houses, serene business environment, transaction going on in peace, you won't know how much you have done for the beneficiaries of #EnergizingEconomies until you go back
They can transact in peace, sound pollution, noise pollution and environmental pollution is almost zeroed. Health risks and hazards reduced, these market women can transact without shouting, they can go back home with minimal stress. God bless the brain behind the idea

#EnergizingEconomies is the @realREANigeria Programme bringing electricity to major markets/economic clusters across Nigeria: 1st phase covering Ariaria Market in Aba, Sura Shopping Complex, Lagos, Sabon Gari Market, Kano. In total these are tens of thousands of shops benefiting
Project started with energy audits. How many shops in each of these markets? What are their power needs? How much power do they need in all? What’s the best way to provide this power? Solar? CNG?

These markets represent the entrepreneurial energy + economic potential of Nigeria
- Ariaria is almost 32,000 shops.
- Sabongari is 13,500
- Shomolu Printing Community is 4,260
- Sura Shopping Complex is more than 1,000 shops.

So we’re looking at more than 50,000 shops (and traders/artisans) who are being touched by the first phase of #EnergizingEconomies.
