Wow, trying to add a post to the only WordPress blog I have that's using blocks.

The new edition of WP manages to be even more annoying and that's saying a lot.

It's turned a very simple post into a whole new process. Basic things that make WP worthwhile aren't even working.
I can see what they're trying to do but they do it in such a way that it adds steps to really simple tasks which I am almost always opposed to doing.

Bad UI = Bad UX

I see some nice additions but the user pays a price for each addition.
And the way media is handled, adding a photo to a post especially, is just so awkward now.

One of the reasons I'll keep using @perishable's Disable Gutenberg plugin:

Anyone else doing some weekend reading of the #Gutenberg #accessibility audit report?

wpcampus.org/2019/05/gutenb…

#WordPress #a11y A screenshot of the cover page for the Gutenberg Accessibility Audit Report. Gutenberg is the new WordPress editor.
I’m going through and taking notes. The report is fascinating.

Seriously taken aback at page 5 of the UX report.
Time for the last document, and main event: the 329 page long-form technical report describing the logged issues in detail.

My concern with WordPress #Gutenberg is that WordPress core developers don't have anyone to nag them with the authoritative voice of the user.

Let me explain...
Here's what I mean. I've worked at 3 software companies and I've seen a dynamic play out that drives great product development.

Great products are developed when Sales and Support lobby Engineering over The Roadmap.
When Support has to save customer after customer because of the same problem, you best believe they will be in Engineering's ear

When a Sales woman loses a deal (and her commission) because of the lack of a feature, you better believe Engineering will hear about it

I think we will look back at 2017 and see it as the year the #WordPress project started to fracture. As much as the community desperately wants to see WordPress as an enterprise CMS, projects like #Gutenberg show it is anything but.
Gutenberg is a phenomenal piece of software and everyone involved in it should be proud of what they have achieved. But we also shouldn't be afraid to call it what it is. It's a move toward WordPress being a site builder.
It's a shift away from fellow PHP-based CMSs like @CraftCMS, #EE, @statamic, @getgrav, @grabaperch, @drupal and the countless other custom-field based CMSs out there. It's a move away from one of the key features of a real enterprise ready CMS. Native structured content.
