#BREAKING: Just a few minutes ago in #Hama, #Syria, the #Israeli Air Force targeted an ammunition storage site in use by #IRGC Quds Force. SAM sites of #Syrian Arab Air Defense Force tried to prevent the airstrike by firing their surface-to-air missiles at the cruise missiles.

#BREAKING: In addition to an ammunition storage facility, #Israeli Air Force also tried to finish an incomplete job. They targeted a ballistic missile warhead production line in #Masyaf. Here is a #Syrian surface-to-air missile launched at one of #Israeli cruise missiles

#BREAKING: Unlike previous times, this time #Syrian Arab Air Defense Force was on high alert probably expecting #Israeli Air Force to carry-out such an airstrike. They fired lots of missiles at the Israeli cruise missiles. We have seen videos showing shot-down of some missiles.

On this day five years ago, the Assad regime launched an aerial chemical attack on #Altaminah city, north of #Hama, followed by two other chemical attacks on the 25th and 30th of March.

The OPCW's Identification Team concluded in its Final Report issued on April 8, 2020, that regime forces used gas multiple times when attacking Altaminah city. The attacks on the 24th, 25th, and 30th of March 2017 were carried out by Assad's regime forces, acc to the report.

The report explained the strategic nature of those three attacks, stating that these attacks were launched by orders of the highest-ranking Syrian regime forces.

S. #Syria: this morning this huge convoy reached town of #Daraa. It has 100s of 4th Division soldiers with heavy artillery & many armor incl. Adra tanks equipped for urban warfare. Way to get concessions but any offensive has to been greenlighted by #Russia (not the case so far).

S. #Syria: among the equipment 4th Division brought in #Daraa this morning, there's also the IRAM heavy "Golan" launcher, with 12 x 360 mm caliber's rockets (each one with a warhead of 180 kg). Highly imprecise, use for carpet bombardment.

S. #Syria: today 4th Division entered the S. part of #Daraa, breaching deal to set up few checkpoints. It triggered clashes with local insurgents. After sporadic shelling, tensions remain tonight amidst negotiations. Outcome: one killed, several wounded.

Good Question; The IDF conduct a technique called "rook knocking" prior to any targeting like this, it allows a period of time for people to get out of the building. They drop a small explosive on the building as a warning.

I have deleted the video; I managed to find it, it's old.

Another year is going to finish. 2020 has left us with fewer military events in the Syrian military conflict. Reflecting the enormous influence of the regional powers in the country, where the end of the war is still far away due to political blockade that has led to a stalemate

As we saw during the last days of 2019, #SAA had begun #Op_Redemption3 in order to retake M5 highway. After a small hiatus during the first weeks of January, Russian-Turkish negotiations failed & #SAA restarted the offensive by opening three axis S. #Idlib, S. #Aleppo & its city.

12 days before the restart of military advances #SAA had already liberated Maarrat al-Numan town & big parts of S. #Idlib countryside. However, the advance didn't stop & one week later #SAA liberated another stronghold, Saraqib, reaching M4 highway & joining with S. #Aleppo axis.

The intra-jihadi dynamic in #Idlib is rapidly intensifying, as #HTS is seeking to re-assert itself vis-a-vis (1) the opposition, (2) local civil society, (3) #Turkey & (4) increasingly exasperated #AlQaeda-leaning factions.

In doing so, it's revealing its multiple identities.

In recent weeks, we've seen escalatory events:

1. Khaled al-Aruri's death in a US drone strike

2. Formation of the #AlQaeda-leaning 'Stand Firm' ops room

3. #HTS arrest of:
- Sirajideen Makhtarov (Abu Saloh al-Uzbeki)
- Jamal Hassan Zayniya (Abu Malik al-Talli)
- Tauqir Sharif

Weeks ago, #HTS was attempting to [re-]build bridges with #Idlib civil society & now it's cracking down on divisive #AlQaeda loyalists & defecting critics.

Hard not to see the drivers involved here:

- Protect internal unity & regional primacy
- Undermine #AQ
- Message #Turkey

#Syria Loyalist pages from Salamiyah, #Hama mourned the death of Jameel al-A'araj, a soldier of the 4th Division, was killed in #Libya fighting alongside Haftar forces. Recently, several pro-regime fb pages&accounts went publicly to lure young men into fighting in Libya

So far Liwa al-Quds, 4th Division and small groups of former opposition groups affiliated with the 5th Corps sent fighters to #Libya under direct Russian supervision. Liwa al-Quds is promising up to 2000$ salary and claim the mission is to guard oil facilities.

Why the 4th Division despite it's under Iranian influence? Since 2011, it has an autonomy from the army&state. It has its own security branch and depend on recruiting fighters through annual contracts and lured several former opposition groups in Damascus countryside&Homs #Syria

1/Evidently #Russia has many limitations and concerns when it comes to an armed confrontation with #Turkey, something which has become increasingly apparent with its decisions in Syria, it does not want to enter a direct war with Turkey

2/#Russia has always proceeded with caution with its regional competitors or partners in #Syria, be that NATO, Turkey, or even Israel, it prefers to take a neutral or passive stance, for example the Syrian S300’s have not been activated and use of them is clearly not allowed.

Turkish pressure had delayed any military operations in "Greater #Idlib" during 9 months since Sochi agreement. However, the continue violations of this agreement force #SAA to launch the first stage of #IdlibDawn. Between (6/5/2019-6/6/2019) #SAA liberated 134 Km^2 (3)
