Conversations between #Turtle & #MP
Few days before heading to Ireland, MP is coming home late after working all day on presentations he is invited to give @ECMP2022 in #Dublin, surprised to see his buddy slowing coming up his driveway.

MP: Hey buddy, what are you doing?

1/
MP: It might have taken U some time to come all the way from park

Turtle: Yes doc, I heard U were heading to @TourismIreland island & wanted to join U. Since it would take me more time & I didn’t want to rush, I thought I will come over & rest behind your house till we leave
2/
MP: What do U mean & how did U know?

TL: Well, my 3rd cousin from my mom side who lives in #WicklowMountains close to Dublin told me that you were coming there soon

MP: What, how did she know?

Attending @BC_ALA @ALALibrary's event about #librarian and Civil Rights activist EJ Josey. Get here! #BCALAKeepOnPushing @MstrNclusionist @rchancell
ALA founded in 1876 on principles of equity but many challenges re: racism, esp in the South. Josey born in 1924 in VA in a predominantly poor, Black, segregated town. Said bc his mother instilled in him love of arts and reading, he never "felt poor." #BCALAKeepOnPushing
1936 ALA conference in Richmond was pivotal: ALA made intentional outreach to Black librarians. Despite this, they couldn't enter establishments, share meals, etc. ALA decided to boycott cities in which Black librarians couldn't participate. #BCALAKeepOnPushing

My tips for conducting a #SystematicReview - a thread.

1. Have a look whether any systematic review or #metaanalysis has been conducted on your topic before. If so, what (gaps) did they uncover? How did they structure their results? How will your review differ?

#phdchat
2. Have a look at the resources available at @PRISMAStatement, including the checklist and flow diagram (prisma-statement.org/PRISMAStatemen…), and use it to guide your processes.
3. Get in touch with the reference #librarian at your institution, or check out the resources available through any #HigherEducation #library website. They'll have valuable insight into search string development and database best practice.

Dear Bookworm,

To get a CIA Library card, you’ll need a security clearance.

It might look like a modern public #library, but among the books you’ll find volumes most Americans will never see. The literature of secrets

My first #librarian PD day was like this... [a thread]
So, we're meeting at the School of the Arts, but they don't have a library anymore, so instead of meeting in the library, we're meeting in the cafeteria. It was beautiful, but I am directionally challenged, so I got lost...as always...and was like...
We're going to hear some statistics and get hyped, but also sad, but also hyped: 250,000 in ebook check-outs, but schools can opt-out of having library services. There is grant money available, but as people retire, they're not being replaced.

The closures that @Rachael_Swindon highlights should also been seen in the context of government policy. She is completely right that this is how the Tories are reducing #socialmobility but it is also how they are reducing access to other vital services for the most vulnerable.
It has long been government policy (in common with other countries) that people should access government services online. Other countries recognise that there is a need to keep other options open to protect the most vulnerable. The UK government took a different approach.
The UK government decided to tell people who had difficulty accessing #digital services that they should go to the #library where staff would help them. They then gave no funding for the training of library staff or for their time or for the equipment needed.

Unanimous support @BOSCityCouncil for @AnnissaForBos Resolution in support of @RepDanRyan amendment #1 to H.4730 the foundation budget bill. Of course, we must continue to revisit how #BPS dedicates & allocates its dollars but the fact remains,
We need more revenue & should not be forced to choose between a #BPS #school #nurse a #librarian or #paraprofessional for a #SPED classroom, or continue to underfund #MadisonPark H.S. These are unenviable & unfair choices.
We need an alignment of #BPS vision, priorities & financial investment AND we need more revenue. TY @AnnissaForBos @RepDanRyan @marty_walsh
