Smith understood that capitalists hate capitalism. They don't want to compete with one another, because that would interfere with their ability to raise the prices their customers pay and reduce the wages they pay their workers.

THREAD on distinctions between the phrases "#unifiedfinancing" and #singlepayer, in the context of #CalCare and #SB770. TL;DR, the phrase "unified financing" is the new "access to coverage" and we need to dispense with it for good 👇👇👇
1) I have some thoughts about the phrases "#unifiedfinancing" and "#singlepayer." Some people use them interchangeably, but they should not. They are distinct, and those differences really matter.
2) "#singlepayer" is a specific policy. It is a health care system where payment for all essential health services are delivered by one entity, one single payer, for a given population. There are no middlemen, no insurance companies, no ACOs, just one single, public plan

I have no followers so I'm sure this post will be a waste of #TwitterSpace. I have personally been blessed and cursed by the whole medical system most of my life. To start off, my father shot himself when I was 7 due to mental health issues. Back then depression and bipolar 👇🏼
was treated with drugs like Valium. He had a really low moment and boom. “Tell Roger I’m sorry” is what they told me he said. I was introduced to #oxycontin at the ripe age of 15. My first dose was 40mg and I was sick as a dog for hours. That would trigger a lifelong battle 👇🏼
With addiction to #opiods. After my mom abandoned me when I was 16 and after some time in a homeless shelter
then rehab, I began to get my life together at age 22. 23 im married and doing ok and wreck an #ATV (4-wheeler) off a mountain in #NorthCarolina and become #paralyzed👇🏼

🚨 Today, President Biden previewed a new plan to improve the solvency of the #Medicare HI trust fund.

CRFB welcomes this plan to strengthen Medicare – though with some reservations.

The following is a statement from CRFB president @MayaMacGuineas: crfb.org/press-releases…. Image
"We strongly support the Administration’s efforts to strengthen the Medicare trust fund. The HI trust fund is only 5 years from insolvency, and we are pleased that the President has put forward a plan to extend the life of this vital program." crfb.org/press-releases….
"Anyone who opposes the measures he suggests to lower prescription drug costs and raise new revenue should put forward their own ideas to address Medicare’s rising costs and looming insolvency."

... The annual #deficit would be $50 billion higher due to the additional spending on research, but we would save $380 billion a year on drugs due to generic pricing.”

Gotta say, like others, I was pretty stunned to see Australia's chief #covid minimiser & gaslighter Nick Coatsworth given 'Ambassador' position at Australian Patients Association (APA), so I decided to check out their website.Dear readers, it's interesting. A 🧵
#auspol
APA's Team: quite heavy on the legal/commerce, marketing, medical research, credit management, although mentions their admin manager once had a "serious illness". The Board has a "services executive", law/commerce, law/economics, pharmaceuticals, consumer advocate, yay, a nurse!
APA Patron is current CEO of Aus Psychologists Assoc, former CEO of RACGP (but not a medical Dr)

Corporate Members: hmmm, 4 private health insurance co's, 6 pharmaceutical co's & 10 more co's

Not seeing any groups so far feature patient's voice...oh wait, here it is...

#Medicare system failure Part 8372818: a case study. As a good Aussie, I get skin checks. Although they’re routine and regular, I need to go to a GP for a referral. That’s an unnecessary cost to me and the taxpayer and a needless waste of the GP’s valuable time. But wait… 🧵/2
My dermatologist recently started working out of a second clinic. With GP referral in hand, I went to my usual place to be told he had no appointments before June. 👀 His new clinic can take me tomorrow. But for the Medicare rebate I have to make a new appointment with my GP /3
This requires another drag on the GP’s valuable time, further cost to the taxpayer and to me (she doesn’t bulk bill) and needless cost to both her productivity and mine just to have the address changed on the referral letter. 🤷‍♂️ Tell me there’s not a better way.. #auspol

😱ACO-REACH is privatization of #Medicare that began on Jan. 1, but Biden can cancel it w/ an E.O.

Unless we ACT NOW this could END TRADITIONAL MEDICARE as we know it.

Then write and call your legislators, and Biden!
If your legislator DID NOT SIGN Jayapal's 1/5/22 letter urging Biden to protect Medicare by ending the Trump-Era privatization effort, send the video link (in previous tweet) in your comment.
There's no excuses for not understanding what is happening to their constituents’ care.

It’s past time Australians acknowledged & confronted the
myth of Medicare.
•It’s no longer setting global precedents - it’s behind
•It’s very expensive to be chronically ill/disabled
•Most low income ppl can’t afford to see specialists
•Its lack of coverage is discriminatory
Bandaid changes are not addressing the overarching issues. They are the equivalent of running over a cat for 9 years, then peeling it off the road & trying to inflate the same cat with a bicycle pump.
We need a new cat.
And not a privatised cat.

What’s the AMA’s position on #Medicare use & misuse (aka health care resource stewardship)?

It’s a lengthy position statement, but relevant to the current #MBS debate.

#MBS 🧵
1.1 Health care resources need to be appropriately managed so that all patients can continue to receive the best quality care, now and in the future.
1.2 Individual doctors (medical practitioners) affect health care expenditure through their clinical
recommendations and decisions regarding patient treatment. As such, doctors have an important role as stewards of health care resources.

Multiple stakeholders agree that #Medicare is in crisis.

The cause? Well, that’s a Diagnostic Dilemma.

While arguments on who is to blame can continue ad infinitum, it’s best for our patients that we work together to save Medicare & address major healthcare workforce problems.
It’s evident that some Medicare data doesn’t match what’s seem on the ground.

GP bulk billing rates of 89.6% in the July 2021 quarter? Sounds great, but the devil is always in the (very complex Medicare) data.

Healthcare is complex.
Incentivising & delivering high value care is difficult.

Change is hard.

Delivering quality healthcare is a struggle with workforce challenges & massive deferred & delayed care burdens.

The Government has a budget problem.

Let's set the record straight about @AngeliqueAshby @AshbyForSenate's #lies and disinformation campaign against @CA_DaveJones:

@AngeliqueAshby @AshbyForSenate @CA_DaveJones @CalNurses 2. Raising car insurance rates (FALSE): Dave saved #California consumers and businesses over $3.11 billion in premiums, by regulating rates for auto, homeowners, and other property and casualty insurance.
@AngeliqueAshby @AshbyForSenate @CA_DaveJones @CalNurses 3. Sued by wildfire victims for failing to protect them from out-of-state insurers - The case was filed by two Sonoma County residents in 2018 and ultimately dismissed as "moot" by the Superior Court of #California, as well as the First District Court of Appeals, in 2020.
