🚀 We are live! Here is the correct streaming link for all of today's discussions and performances, starting with a panel on complex time with David Krakauer, James Gleick, Ted Chiang, and David Wolpert in a few moments (measured linearly...):

"One of the ideas we had with #InterPlanetary was, 'What would it take to make science hedonistic? And instead of telling people to do it, you'd have to tell people to STOP doing it?"

- SFI President David Krakauer sets the tone for this weekend's celebrations

David Krakauer: "Do you have a favorite model or metaphor for #time?"

@JamesGleick: "You've already mentioned a river; that's everybody's favorite. Borges said time is a tiger. People talk about it as a thread. We ONLY talk about time in metaphors." Image

To mark #AsteroidDay, we’ve got a whole day of #asteroid content ready for you. Stay on board to learn how and why we study asteroids with spacecraft, and how we protect Earth from them colliding with us. We'll even look at #SpaceMining!
#AsteroidDay was founded by astrophysicist @DrBrianMay, Astronaut Rusty Schweickart Filmmaker @GrigRichters; and B612 President Danica Remy, to encourage the public and governments to learn more about asteroids and the role they play in our Solar System.
#AsteroidDay marks the anniversary of the largest asteroid impact in recorded history, Tunguska, 1908. Such impacts are part of the reason scientists study asteroids, working on resources to search for and deflect asteroids from Earth-crossing orbits.

I have so many issues with this article and the constant crap about #aliens from the #oumuamua asteroid analysis. Let's get started (1/10)

"the idea that it’s arrogant to assume we are alone in the universe, or even a particularly special species."

Agreed. But still assumption w/o proof. But... moving on. (2/10)
Author says his alien theories have "left some of his peers nonplused, grumbling at a flimsy theory or bewildered as to why Harvard's top astronomer won't shut up about aliens" Yes. Please phrase it in a way that makes the rest of us sound unreasonable. (3/10)

1/ Mr. Musk, With respect, please strongly consider a mission to intercept #Oumuamua. At the very least, it's the 1st Interstellar object. However, so many of its characteristics are odd enough that it may be of artificial origin. Such a discovery would be profound.

@elonmusk
2/ Please contact Dr. Avi Loeb, Email: aloeb@cfa.harvard.edu

Thank you

THREAD - How about a bunch of blog posts on #Space and #Astronomy? Yes, I have more than you can imagine - especially since these are really just #physics topics. Hold on - because this is going to be a bit large.
2/ Here is an answer to my fav astronomy question EVER - "What would the phases of the moon look like if the moon was a cube?" wired.com/2015/09/moon-c…
3/ The great thing about the cube moon question is that it really tests if students understand phases of the moon rather than just recalling factual stuff. Here is my python model of a cube and spherical moon
