🚨 Stop giving smartphones to your kids! 🚨

A friend shared Sapien Labs' report that highlights a deeply concerning correlation between early access to smartphones (& tablets) to young children and the increased likelihood of suffering from mental disorders as adults. (1/5) Image
The numbers are truly shocking:

(a) ~60-70% of women who were exposed to smartphones before the age of 10 experience mental health issues as adults

(b) ~45-50% of men who got exposed to smartphones before the age of 10 also face similar challenges later in life. (2/5)
I urge parents to resist the temptation of handing over a phone to kids always - while crying, or eating food etc.

Instead, encourage real-world interactions, outdoor activities & hobbies.

As parents, we have a responsibility to protect our children's mental health. (3/5)

If a #parent of an #SEN child (esp autistic) presents as #anxious, high maintenance, needy, rude, full on or any of the other awful terminology used to describe them, what do you think might be *really* going on. Let’s unpack it 🧵

#Teachers #SENCO #Inclusion leads #SENtwitter
This is not a new topic. Parents have been talking about the difficulties of being labelled as overly anxious for many years.
So why does this keep happening?
2/🧵 #Teachers #SENCO #Inclusion leads #SENtwitter
Professionals don’t want to feel helpless. Difficult situations and lack of resources cause feelings of helplessness all around and it is easier to blame the most vulnerable and easy target. The anxious parent. 3/🧵

Master Murabbi

Of the main indicators of a good #parent is minimal use of anger.

In our home, I use anger less than 1% of the time with my children.

Consequently, I can very calmly say one word, “overstep” and my children immediately take heed. Without request, they’ll…
… instinctively come, of their own accord, and apologize. These are some of my favorite mommy teaching moments. I respond by smiling, embracing & kissing them, then thanking. It’s so key for parents to keep discipline positive, not punitive (unless absolutely necessary)…
This is more critical in Muslim minority populations where Islam is restrictedly manifest in home & mosque. Early attitudes toward God & Religion develop from the parental persona. The divine trust of parenting entails mercy & guardianship. Children can’t process rational creed…

Kids <2 yrs old can’t mask.
Kids <6 months can’t vax.

Many parents are using strollers w/rain covers to try to get some protection during essential activities.

Does adding a #PAPR or #HEPA device help?

I tried 6 models: engrxiv.org/preprint/view/…

#PAPRbuggy #HEPAbuggy
1/10 Image
First off, thanks @RealSexyCyborg for the original design. Thanks to @ccwake1, @gjmf, @drgregkelly for ideas too. Happy to acknowledge!

My goal was to test 6 models & help relate them to non-engineers.

2/10

The PAPR & HEPA buggies I tested had an estimated 57-951 air changes per hour (ACH) in these TINY spaces. The worst design had about 3x the air cleaning of an OR.

You can make a #PAPRbuggy that’s super discrete for about $110 more than an existing stroller & rain cover.

CW : #Death
It's 13 days since my #father passed away unexpectedly. A very important day in terms of religious ceremonies in #Hinduism. A day to celebrate and #remember the person. In some ways, as positive a day as it is possible given the circumstances.
#memories #parent
On this day, I wanted to share a light hearted #story.
My #father used to travel to Bombay (now #Mumbai) by air. It is over 1000 kms from our city. He would normally take his bicycle, park it in a garage, take a train to the airport to catch his flight.
#parent
The return would be the same way.
As I saw him go and come back in his bicycle,I would tell everyone that my #father goes to Bombay and back in his bicycle! 😂😂😂

High levels of an #infection in #Massachusetts is causing both gastrointestinal (#diarrhoea, #vomiting) & respiratory (#cough, #sinus, #headache) symptoms WITHOUT typical fever or runny nose - School children & parents/guardians across #boston suburbs affected for last 3 weeks.
Note the CDC data suggests very little SARS-CoV-2 (Omicron) or influenza (flu) at this time in Massachusetts or Connecticut or New Hampshire. So diagnostic tests being used are not catching this circulating pathogen, or a seasonal coronavirus/norovirus/adenovirus is the culprit
According to the data on SARS-CoV-2-positive PCR tests there is very low levels of COVID-19 over last 3 weeks in Massachusetts, CT, NH, RI & VT. Yet there are several #school #children, #teachers and #parents with gastrointestinal & respiratory #infection symptoms in these states Image

A long thread 📜on being an immigrant, a ECR and a parent in Aotearoa New Zealand, though I believe these experiences echo others across the world. #immigrant #precarious #AcademicTwitter #parent
My son Manu was born 7 days ago. However, since I am not on a permanent contract, I did not get any paid parental leave. Instead HR offered me the ‘choice’ of taking 2 weeks of unpaid leave. The word ‘choice’ here is key...
...because given my fixed term employment, my salary is barely enough to support a family of 3 and now 4. So, there really isn’t a choice. The choice is between having money to afford a roof over our head, food on our plates, utilities paid or not. Not much of a choice.

Any harm the covid vaccine could do—even in your wildest imagination—the disease will do worse.

It’s the same spike protein that gets made! The only difference is so much more badness comes on board with the virus.

A helpful visual, then 🧵 :

instagram.com/p/CWJ0ifmPe0i/… Image
One of the trends I’m seeing when it comes to covid vaccines in kids is the idea that there’s some nebulous, long term harm we will see with the vaccines that we won’t see with the virus. But this really makes no sense.
I’ve detailed in past posts here and on IG why there’s no biological or historical reason to believe this. The idea that long term scary things happen from vaccines is a figment of anti vaccine propaganda.

My experience with Children who had #Dyslexia.

When I was in Mombasa, I was running a Madrasa with over 600 children for 3 years.
Some parents would remove their children from schools completely and make their children join the Madrasa fulltime so that they memorised the
#HolyQuran while getting tuition teachers to teach them in the evenings so that they don't miss out in their Secular Education.
3-4 years down the line when they are done memorizing the #HolyQuran, the go back to school and continue with their Secular Education.
I really admired
the dedication & the devotion these parents had towards the Book of ALLAH where they wanted their children to memorise the #HolyQuran. A Book that has over 600 pages and the child memorises it from cover to cover before the age of 12 years. This was a Noble Deed and the reward

1) 🇬🇧 The 8 steps of UK #LongCovid prevalence research in a nutshell - By an upset parent.
1. Child suffers disabling symptoms for over 12 months
2. GP says it is health #anxiety and standard blood tests show nothing wrong, so there can not be anything wrong.
3. #Parent has been
2) using Zoe app, but gives up logging symptoms after x months as they can't see the point anymore. No one believes they are sick anyway
4. Child has disabling symptoms for over 12 months
5. GP says children don't get #longcovid as the @govuk has told them this
3) for the last 18 months. Parent and child both dismissed as "anxious". #Child never sees a #paediatrician as GP dismisses them & paediatricians, therefore, don't see many kids with #longcovid.

A GROUNDNUT SEED LODGED INSIDE THIS CHILD'S AIRWAY KILLED HER!

This powerful photo gives a stark warning to parents & caregivers over the dangers of #choking. The small child suffocated & died after choking on a #peanut!

A thread 🧵

{Share to who needs this!}
2\ #Peanuts & other nuts are the 4th leading cause of unintentional death in children.

Some kids, like 7-year-old Precise Tucker, have even #choked on #doritos chips & died in their mothers' arms while playing a prank!

nydailynews.com/#nt=mastheadna…
3\ Every #parent will be familiar with the time spent cutting & slicing their kid's food to ensure they can eat with no issues. No matter how hard you try, there's always a chance their wandering hands will pick up something they shouldn't & potentially put them in danger.⁣

So now we'll have some questions for @marycheh, #Washington #DC Councilmember for #Ward3 and its Chair. RT DC bill would give #teens the #power to #vaccinate without #parent's #consent

wusa9.com/article/news/d… via @wusa9
Chairwoman @marycheh:
Are you aware HHS hasn't delivered a #vaccine safety report in 31 years? That since 1986 it's been illegal to sue #BigPharma for #vaccines injury? That US Govt. (taxpayers!) has paid >$4Billion in damages for vax injuries since then?
prnewswire.com/news-releases/…
2/ As an elected official looking out for constituents, do you have any qualms, re: market forces no longer pressuring #BigPharma to get #vaccines right? You must know how often they've been caught doing duplicitous, human-hurting things—#Opioids, #Vioxx, #AIDS-tainted blood, etc

What do you do when you disagree with someone ? ... How do you handle a different perspective? ... I check we are talking about the same thing... consider the logic and evidence and finally stress test their conclusions...
I did that and I disagreed with @CarolineLucas my leader
First off @CarolineLucas is #spectacularly bright, #hardworking and a #visionary who pulled me into @TheGreenParty orbit. There are very few... perhaps no other UK politicians with a more determined record of standing up for our collective #environmental #rights #newgreenpolitics
