I don't know who needs to hear this, but the restriction of carbohydrates does not = an eating disorder (1/6) #realtalk #therapist #mentalhealthcounselor
It is an evidence-based and strategic nutritional intervention to rescue mood, cognitive functioning, and basically all-around metabolic function. (2/6)
Some people will need to restrict carbohydrates to treat chronic illnesses of the brain and the body. And they don't need misinformed mental health counselors scaring them and telling them they are going to develop an eating disorder. (3/6)

Therapist Thread 🧵 The difficulty in treating 'self-hatred'. BPD, other PD's, autism, aspergers, gender dysphoric clients who often present with extreme self-hatred. They have a great need to avoid their subjective internal experience or deflect it with external anger of hatred
They may be there in therapy but emotionally avoid, highly dissociate &/ or use drugs & alcohol, are hostile ("I hate all people", "no-one can help me", Shame- prone, isn't regular with appointments, never had a role model that cared for them in their life #therapy #hatredofself
Patients who attack themselves verbally or other is distressing for the #therapist The client has often hidden the level of self hatred they have. They have adapted in ways to hide this from themselves & others. Some feel they are punished by fate or karma. Some can't show how

Narcissistic abuse is all pervasive, across all areas, affects all involved with a #narcissist. It involves a wide variety of manipulative tactics, is longstanding, highly abusive, coercive, sophisticated, subtle, of long duration, highly controlling, utilzes #narcissistic agents
It is used overtly or covertly by the narcissist or their 'agents'. It is designed to attack your independence, autonomy, to #control you, to break you down because it makes them feel better, period!#Gaslighting works under the guise of caring about you. It is designed to
Get you to deny your own #reality. This is. It loving. Many other manipulative tactics are involved. They are also not loving or kind. A narcissist recruits an entire community to do it's dirty work for him/her. The Narcissitic agents are also part of the problem. It is usually

🔥 I predicted this 🔥 Guess WHO is waking up?! @jordanbpeterson Several 'Clients' of other therapists are now messaging me personally saying they "used to believe in gender stuff", telling me they are very unhappy with their therapists because they are finding out the truth
they have been lied to! Clients MUST speak up Can you believe that 'clients' are now telling their therapists off, firing them, confronting them, asking them questions This is beyond disturbing & beyond ethical. Clients MUST speak up because woke therapists NEED to be called out
Clients are now contacting me telling me that they are discovering they have been lied all this time, they are distressed to find out they have been lied to by their therapists @AbigailShrier to find out that what they have been taught is an ideology & NOT factual @LisaLittman1

I just turned off #airplanemode so that I could text my granny so that we keep our routine and she don't pop up over here BUT truthfully her son [the artist formerly known dad] had me in my feelings last night.

I'm grateful that I handled it "well" but damn.

I feel a need to apologize on behalf of #psychology
The organisations & #psychologists have burned their profession down. Many still champion this dying spiralling wokeism, in spite of contrary evidence, for their own selfish need for relevance. This damage is likely irreparable
This toxic wokeism has infected all #Psychology Organizations. The Australian #Psychological @AustPsych Society’s ex president Bob Montgomery is a convicted sex offender in jail & the APS couldn’t even genuinely apologize 👉🏻 abc.net.au/news/2020-06-0…
Then we have the Australian Psychological Society’s one way affirmation medicalisation approach of transgendering children/teens and denial of social contagion as one factor in the 4000% increase & the silencing/harassment of psychologists who disagree 👉🏻 psychology.org.au/about-us/news-…

The 2021 #Australian Association of Family Therapy #AAFT Conference included a presentation on ‘treating families with Transgender Children’ in the context of family therapy & is a significant departure from ethics, guidelines & the foundational principles of family #therapy
If you are member of the public seeking a family therapist, you have the right to know how they are trained. What follows is their recent training materials. Please share widely. I will be discussing this in my book. Please choose a #therapist wisely. I cannot overstate this
Family therapists in Australia are trained to have an agenda and bias. They are trained to ‘normalise’ and affirm self-ID

I am trained in #developmental #psychology and #neuroscince. I have been screaming the #teenagebrain is #underreconstruction from the rooftops! Am totally ashamed of my peers who wilfully ignore this. #neuroplasticity #frontallobes #psychologists #gender #rogd #trans #detrans
The teenage brain is under reconstruction. The prefrontal cortex is not fully developed until minimum aged 25. A bit longer for males. The prefrontal cortex is largely responsible for: decision making, planning, organisation, focusing, impulsivity, aka executive functions
Managing emotions, predicting consequences of one’s choices and moderating social behaviour. This is #science #facts Anyone who says otherwise is brainwashed by #ideology Shame on any professional who ignores this #gender #trans #detrans #shame

Everybody can learn from this thread but today I want to speak directly to my #therapist #counselors, and #psychologists.

If you know them...tag them.
I KNOW they didn’t teach you how to market in school.

I GET that it’s a lot being responsible for running the practice and finding new clients.

But you’re making it harder on yourself than it has to be.
I’m going to teach you how to do ONE THING that helped a therapist in my membership to pull in $15,000 in new business before even formally launching the site for her practice.

This will increase your visibility online and help you to get more clients.

Let’s start at the top.

To all the new #graduate students starting their #PhD or the ones already in it. It's true that the #journey of a PhD is like #life packed into a few years. You must also understand that it is not your entire life either! Life goes on despite how this journey goes or ends! Thread
I made this #infographic to represent my journey in #gradschool at @UMassChemEng @UMassAmherst. When you're in the thick of things, It will be hard to see the light at the end. Everyone around you will keep telling you that but most of the times it will seem #impossible!
Year 3, 4, and 5, I went through multiple cycles of #depression. I cannot put a finger on anything specific of why that happened. What I realized though, is that every time I came out of that cycle, I found enormous amounts of hidden #energy and #strength.

Signs of #Depression [not just the temporary blues]:
1. Anhedonia : inability to feel pleasure
2. Grief,Guilt, incessant rumination loop
3. Psychomotor retardation [rare case,PS agitation]
4. Self-injury
5. Disrupted sleep/appetite
6. Social withdrawl
7. Chronic procrastination
Very often the manic phases of #Bipolar are mistaken to be evidence of recovery fm unipolar depression - that is the other thing to watch out for.

The manic [especially hyper] phases are not necessarily about constructive "energy" - quite often what we see is high risk behavior
Irrespective of whether it is Unipolar or Bipolar, this disorder is biopsychosocial. Biology [even at a genetic level], neurochemistry, thoughts, experience, environment all interact to produce a certain state.

It is as much a brain/body/environment issue, as it is a mind issue.

Don’t get it twisted. (Thread.) Image
I sometimes hear people remark that the recent cultural emphasis on “self-care” is actually just selfishness.

I couldn’t disagree more.
Selfishness is giving into every demand on your time by others.

Self-care is knowing you have limits, and knowing how to set them.
