So since the world is a tyre fire AGAIN today, who wants a thread of adorable animals from the Danum Valley National Park in Borneo?

Oh you do.... so here we go.

The red ❤️ leaf 🍃 monkey 🐒
Red leaf monkeys move in small troupes through the forest. They live mainly on leaves and they are totally adorable.
Red leaf monkeys are sometimes called little orangutans, though they're not related and have very different social behaviours and diets.
Orangutangs! Who doesn't love an orangutang? There was one camped out close to the research centre where we stayed.
Hornbills!

I love hornbills. They're like someone put a weave on a toucan.

This is an Oriental Pied Hornbill.
This is a Rhinoceros Hornbill.

(Borneo still has a population of actual rhinoceroses, but they're super rare and wisely stay the fuck out of humanity's way.)
And this is a Helmeted Hornbill.

Crazily people poach these things and carve the helmet, which is a form of ivory into artefacts.

We were really lucky to see this. These things are RARE and SHY.
Gibbons!

From a distance only. We tracked these across the park for three days and this is the closest we got.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a SLOW LORIS.

The internet went nuts for these things a couple of years ago when one went viral and started keeping them as pets.

They are not pets.

We were super lucky to see this too.
Sambar deer! These were fairly common. Still really adorable.

We did see a mouse deer for about a micro second but it ran away.
Jungle pigs! I love wild pigs. They give no actual fucks. Running into them is like bumping into someone who faintly dislikes you while they're doing a weekly shop.

And the monitor lizards here are HUGE.
Pig-tailed macacques!

We only saw these once, which is good because they're evil and have a tendency to harass other monkey species.
Birds! Too many to mention, but I love birds. They make me feel happy.
And that's pretty much it. HMU if you want more red leaf monkey #content. I have LOTS.

And bye to the Danum Valley. If you come to Borneo you should definitely come, but try not to do it with an ear infection, like I did.
One more thing.

This was our amazing guide Theo. We toured with @StickyRiceSabah (who were great) and we stayed at the @danum_valley Field Center, which does important research work into Bornean wildlife.
