🗳️🦞If you back one candidate this week, I sincerely hope you consider backing Jared Golden for U.S. Congress ME-02, currently the Majority Whip in the Maine State House.
🗞️The “about” section of Golden’s website is probably one of—if not the most compelling descriptions of a candidate I’ve read in the past 2 years—and I’ve read a lot.

🗞️The profile is from an article that was in the Lewiston Sun Journal, written by Steve Collins.

⚕️One of Jared Golden's motives for running was his disappointment in his opponents’ decision to oppose the Affordable Care Act.

🎖️Somewhat like Golden's decision to enlist in the Marines after 9/11.

🏃‍♂️He waited until the last week to tell his parents, after months of training and quitting college.
😨His parents were understandably opposed to it, especially when he told them he was joining the infantry—which he purposefully chose instead of something safer. “Why would you do that?” his Dad asked incredulously. “Why would I join the Marines?” Golden answered.
🎖️He explained that he wanted to do his part in pursuing the people responsible for killing nearly 3,000 innocent American citizens.

💣While deployed in Afghanistan, his unit got hit by a roadside bomb.
😰Shaken, but fine, he immediately told everyone to secure the perimeter in case they got hit again.

🗣️Then he heard his friend yelling in pain from wood fragments that had lodged in his eyes.
⚕️Golden searched for other wounds and made sure his friend got medical attention, but honestly thought his friend might end up blind.

🥼Astonishingly, his eyes were repaired by surgeons and he was lucky enough to be deployed again.
💣Jared was also deployed twice and served 2002-2006 in Iraq and Afghanistan, facing mortar attacks, roadside bombs and suicide missions—usually from an invisible enemy.

⛳️And his parents, who lived & worked on a “casual” golf course in Leeds, Maine were extremely proud of him.
🎖️His father carries a letter from Jared’s commanding officer in his wallet. It’s a commendation when he was awarded a Navy& Marine Corps Achievement Medal in 2005 for “superior performance during Operation Steel Curtain.”
⛳️👨‍🌾Golden learned his work ethic from growing up on the family golf course—which he compared to a farm.

🍕After the Marines, he was accepted into Bates—his dream at the time—after meeting the Admissions Dean on a lark when he was working at a local pizza parlor.
👰🤵Golden ran and won in 2014—the same year he met his wife Izzie, who was fellow alum of Bates. Three months after he met her, he asked her to marry him and they did so the following year.

⁉️He’s a modest guy and guess what?...
👂He’s had an uncanny ability to listen since he was a little boy.
