Lines outside precincts in North Charleston. Machine malfunctions and laptop malfunctions, and worker shortages are creating two hour waits. We’re in touch with the ED of the Bd of Elections to try and get resources to the precincts that need it. #ElectionDay
More from that precinct in N. Charleston. We have to do better America. #ElectionDay
Also hour and a half to two hour waits on Johns Island and James Island in South Carolina. Poll mgrs say they’ll stay as long as necessary, so if you’re in line, don’t leave. #ElectionDay

2018 was a tough year for civ rts & justice. I’m proud of how civil rights lawyers & activists fought & often won. The year was also marked by extraordinary, wonderful & uplifting experiences that strengthened me for the battles ahead. I’m grateful for each of those experiences.
A surprise party last Jan. to commemorate my 5th anniversary as Director-Counsel at @NAACP_LDF attended by the two living former D-Cs, my mentors Elaine Jones and Ted Shaw. My girl @JNelsonLDF set me up masterfully. I was clueless right up to the moment. It was lovely.
Had a moment with the great one - Justice Bader Ginsburg - at @ConstitutionCtr where we first met 25 years ago. Also good to see my friend Marcia Greenberger.

are all probably better socially adjusted than deflecting compliments.

Just macro your favorite.
I grew up in a social milieu which expects self-effacing behavior and I know many other folks who are socialized similarly. This is not generally rewarded in the American professional sphere.
If someone says “Thank you. Your work was key to shipping $X.” and you say “Oh I don’t deserve that! Many people worked on $X.” you have just stapled “WAS NOT KEY CONTRIBUTOR ON $X” to their memory of your performance.

For the last 24 hours I've been texting & calling with refugees in Libya. 500 are apparently stuck in a Tripoli prison w/o food & water after heavy fighting broke out two days ago. They say their guards ran away, leaving them alone.
These refugees are men, women & children. They tried to cross the Mediterranean earlier this year, but were found by Italian boats, who turned them over to the EU-backed Libyan coastguard, who put them in prison. The conditions were already terrible before the fighting started.
Oh the phone earlier I could hear children crying & what sounded like bombing in the distance. The refugees say everyone's incredibly frightened. "We hear machine guns, tanks, big bombs, last night from the roof it was all fire."

Sugar daddy au with a twist where Yoongi is a producer just starting out, and while he's happy he took the risk, he's struggling to make ends meet, often having to rely on his friends for help. They really don't mind since it's never anything much, food mostly, and they love him.
But Yoongi's unhappy with it, doesn't like mooching off his friends, so one night when he's been sulky after having to share Hoseok's dinner instead of buying his own again, Hobi's trying to cheer him up and jokes about how Yoongi should just become a sugar baby.
And Yoongi laughs, because that's ridiculous, he doesn't feel comfortable sharing his body for money and honestly would prefer to be the daddy if he had the money to do something like that anyway.

Competition does not work because the true stakeholders (children, families, society) profit from the emotional and psychological work done in the classroom, when done well...

While at the same time, teachers must find extra income to make ends meet, some live barely above the poverty line, and teacher turn over costs 1B a year

... workforce, that can make huge changes and gains in the lives of the 50mil children that are in the public education system, that have the emotional and psychological experience to support the growth of a nation
