Ghose leads the #womeninscience Centre at @Laurier and works in physics and computer science ncl #quantum, and #interdisciplinary is just a big word to her. There is no choice to cross disciplines in her research, which also bridges into #SocialSciences #CSPC2018

#CSPC2018 @vivmn @MitacsCanada #cspf now works at @NRCan, and was always multidisciplinary since undergrad. She even had a more #SocialSciences thesis despite studying #biology. This led to #CSPF program and #scipol, a real shift from academia, to drive impact.

#CSPC2018 @andreajanereid is a trained #scientist & #firstnations working on salmon ecosystems from multiple perspectives. The impact of changes are far reaching esp for #indigenous communities, and combined lenses of each discipline are necessary to understanding this system.

#CSPC2018 Q, what are the barriers and enablers of #interdisciplinarity? @andreajanereid says funding, publishing, and university programs are generally monolithic. Finding multidisciplinary grants (one new one at @NatGeo!), broad interest impactful journals is not easy.

#CSPC2018 Shohini Ghose talks about #Heisenberg uncertainty principle - there's no way to know every property of an electron. Uncertainty is a #superpower! Security, encryption, teleportation, all depend on this. If disciplines are the norm, interdisciplinary is the superpower 💪
