The ‘Trial of the Talmud’ was a disputation that took place in Paris 12/6/1240. Christian clerks accused the Jewish Talmud of being blasphemous. 4 Rabbis tried to defend the Talmud against accusations. The (Christian) Jury wasn’t convinced and ruled for the burning of the Talmud.
In the 4 years to come, the French Monarchy confiscated all available Talmud books. In 1244 it took 48 hours to burn 40 horse carriages piled with Talmud books.

Well, when the Black Plague hit Europe in 1347, killing 1/3 (!) of the continent’s population, guess who was blamed for this apocalypse?

Between 1348-49, thousands of #Jews were murdered for this vicious blood libel especially in #Germany, #France and #Switzerland. Almost all Jews in Western Europe were ethnically cleansed fleeing to Eastern Europe.
Up to The Holocaust, there were 3.5 million (!) #Jews in Poland, making it the biggest Jewish community in the world. The community was almost entirely exterminated by the Nazis - more than 90% of it were murdered. Only 50,000 survived.

Another outstanding Polish #Jew worth mentioning, is Simcha “Kazik” Rotem who passed away yesterday at the age of 94. Kazik courageously fought the Nazis at the #WarsawGhettoUprising. Simcha survived The Holocaust and moved to mandatory Palestine in 1946 to help build Israel 🇮🇱.
Two days after the Seville pogrom broke, violence reached #Córdoba. The Jewish community of Córdoba was entirely exterminated. Those who were not murdered were forced into Christianity. Next to suffer were the Jews of #Toledo. Then #Barcelona, on August 5, 300 Jews were murdered.

Meet the first Rabbi to ever set foot in America!

First EVER synagogue in North #America, the Mill Street synagogue, was founded in New York (then New Amsterdam) in 1730.
