Hey, @ArunInParis, you think we could generate any interest if we did a podcast together and argued about the meaning of the #GiletJaunes and whether France needs more cops? Some people seem to make a living doing that, why not us?
Only problem is I really think an actual nuclear bomb would have to go off here to get Americans all that interest in it.
Maybe if @ArunLeParisien and I bickered enough it would have independent amusement value.

Everything about Trump, his unfitness, his enthusiasm for authoritarianism, his unfriendliness to the alliance structure that has prevented great-power conflict since 1945 was obvious from the first moment. Americans voted for it. They were idiots, and their decision was immoral.
But living in a democracy means, "You have to accept the outcome of the election, however much you deplore it." He can't be removed from office unless Mueller comes up with evidence so stunning as to persuade the GOP members of the Senate to vote for it.
It is not likely that he will. The GOP Senators are accountable to their voters, who *voted* to destroy the US' relationship with its democratic allies and both align with Russia and become more like Russia. This is what they wanted and still want.

The movement has revealed that many in France are acutely lonely and bored. Getting people off the streets (or at least, persuading them not to do so much damage when they're on them) will require taking the psychological aspect of this seriously.
I don't know what would provide a substitute, but imagine if this energy could be transformed into something constructive. I don't think the majority of the GJs truly *want* to learn more about the budget, have a serious political debate, or exercise a personal line-item veto--

And the burden is on the Gilets Jaunes to articulate a governing philosophy that's not only *not* ludicrous on the face of it but which might be an improvement on things or France, which happens to be one of the world's best governed countries.
So far, the ideas they're suggesting are nuts.

And the means by which many are advocating them are disgusting: violence, physically attacking ministers and the free press, sending savage, racist death threats to elected ministers, brawling with the police ...
and then sticking their follow citizens with a massive, multi-billion clean-up Euro bill after every one these expressions of "colère." Harming property, and honest businesses, tanking the economy, and thus making it vastly *less* likely that they'll get what they want--

And here is another video of police brutality going on in #France towards the #GiletJaunes protestors. Here you see multiple cops restraining and hitting a women multiple times while she was at a bus stop, saying "please stop" i beg you please stop.
