🌊🗳️Before the November 2018, of the 50 states and 3 territories, 26/33 Republican state governorships were up for re-election, 9/16 Democratic state governorships, 1 Independent state Governor (Alaska), 2 Republican territories & 1 Ind. territory were up for re-election.
*⃣Of those races, #Democrats won 9 Gubernatorial races previously held by Republicans and one Independent, including 7 states, 1 territory and one previously Independent territory. Republicans gained the Independent seat in Alaska.
*⃣So Governors now:

🐘27 Republicans
🌊23 Democrats
🌊Guam=Democratic (flipped)
🐘Northern Mariana Islands=Republican (no change)
💛U.S. Virgin Islands=Independent (no change)

🔝Moving in the right direction!
For people who follow #NoConCon, Democrats made significant headway.
Heading into the 2018 elections, there were 34 total trifectas, meaning the State Senate, State House & Governors were all one party: 8 trifectas were Democratic and 26 were Republican.
🔷🔴16 states had divided government—no trifecta for either major party—before the election.

*⃣On 11/6/18, #Democrats gained 6 trifectas for a total of 16 & shrunk the GOP lead in that department to 22 trifectas, a loss of 4.

🔷🔴States with divided government declined to 13.
*⃣Alaska's trifecta status is unknown because control of the state House was not settled as of December 28, 2018. If Republicans win the House, Alaska will go from divided government to a Republican trifecta.
🌊🗳️The #BlueWave2018 was extremely successful, but we still have a lot of work to do!
