The Florida state legislature has been filing bills and advancing previous bils to committees over the last week.

Here’s a synopsis of some of the ones I find interesting.

#FlaPol

👇THREAD👇
Congresspersons Audrey Gibson (@SenAudrey2eet), Dotie Joseph (@DotieForFlorida), and Evan Jenne (@evanjenne) introduced legislation to ratify the #ERA.

S 266 & H 209
Representative Patricia Hawkins-Williams (@PHW4District92) introduced a similar bill 2 days later.

H 255
A bill introduced by Democratic Senators Lauren Book (@Book4Senate) and Linda Stewart (@LindaStewarFL) on 11/29/18 to move the concealed weapons license program to the Department of Law Enforcement advanced to relevant committees on 1/10/19.

S 108
This would take it out of the direct authority of newly elected Ag commissioner @nikkifried whose campaign largely focused on #GunControl.
It will now be under the control of the FDLE commissioner, who reports to the republican governor, AG, CFO and Fried.
Republican Representative Toby Overdorf (@TobyOverdorf) introduced a bill on 1/10/19 to create uniform ballot voter selection style (square, oval, arrow, etc.).

H 221
Democratic Representatives @AmyMercado and @AnnaForFlorida introduce legislation to criminalize certain acts targeting women’s health and reproductive clinics.

H 227
Republican Representatives @MikeHillfl, @AnthonySabatini, and Mike Beltran introduced an abortion restriction bill on 1/10/19.

H 235
It changes the wording in the definition of abortion from “fetus” to “unborn human being”; defines that term as “an individual organism of the species Homo sapiens from fertilization until live birth”;
includes a that physicians must offer the opportunity to view/hear the heartbeat (can be waived by patient); and must put the care of the “unborn human being” on equal footing as the patient if viability and heartbeat are determined.
Senator @Annette_Taddeo introduced a Medicaid expansion bill.

S 284
Republican Senator @dennisbaxley introduced a bill that defines Confederate soldiers as veterans, and protects all monuments and memorial of veterans.

S 288
Democratic representative Kimberly Daniels (@KimDanielsFL) and Republican Brad Drake (@braddrake5) introduce a bill requiring all school districts to offer specified courses relating to religion as electives.

It only specifies Judaeo-Christian classes

H 195
Democratic representative Cindy Polo (@CindyPoloFL103) introduced a bill prohibiting concealed or open carry for firearms on ALL childcare facilities.

H 197
Republican Senator Dennis Baxley (@dennisbaxley) introduces a bill to allow voting machines that produce voter verified ballots.

S 268
Senator Gary Farmer (@FarmerForFLSenate introduced a bill changing language which defining marriage from “husband and wife” to spouses, including same sex couples.

S 254
Republican Representatives @MikeHillfl and @AnthonySabatini introduced a bill that removes age restrictions at waiting periods for purchasing firearms.

H 175
It also prohibits the seizure of firearms by law enforcement for individuals deemed a risk to themselves and others.
This is no where near all the bills filed, or that have had actions taken on them last week, but it’s a very telling sample.

Remember that Republicans have a 6 seat majority in the Senate, and a 25 seat majority in the House.

This is not good.
