A new variation of the twitter poll. This #genre specimen makes the staggering ignorance prevalent in the #Brexit debate painfully obvious.

The "screengrab of something inanely stupid" is becoming a crucial #Brexit debate #genre. Possibly (see above) because "inanely stupid" has become a prevalent Brexit position.

Part of the fun of being a second language writer is all the #genres you don´t know the name of. @BellerophonC suggested "redelivery card" as the name for this #genre. Wie dem auch sei, it's a thingy of beauty.

Please, if I am ever on a path that will get me run over by @DmitryOpines, pull me off it and slap me unconsious, so I don´t self-mutilate.

Next #genre: Calendar change. I am particularly fond of this one.

It's debatable whether the "anxiety dream" is a #genre - it's lacking in the social aspect (do you agree @AmyDevitt1?). However, the "anxiety dream reenactment" is definitely a genre.

#GammonHaiku. I didn´t even realize I could write one. A beautiful #genre.

At this late stage of the #Brexit debate we were bound to get the #genre "sales promotion", I guess. I may be from a country that could profit from this sale, but it still breaks my heart, truth to tell. The genre specimen, however, is very good.

Listen, please. I think this is important, crucial even.

I assembled this thread of #FBPE people attacking tories. It repeats the same point over and over and over. I tried to be somewhat entertaining in my presentation, but there is basically only one thing demonstrated. 1/
It was very easy to do; part of the material simply came to me while establishing the thread, and the rest was easy to find. I could literally go on with it forever and ever, and if I feel like it, I might still add new material; easy piece. 2/
But since every tweet basically demonstrated the same point: #FBPE person attacking tories, it only gets more trite tweet by tweet. @audreidana said I was boring, and she was spot on. 3/

As a "contemptuous Remainer", may I assure you that I have considered the implications of "winning", as you put it, very carefully.
First, Remainers long ago gave up the idea of #Brexit being a winner/loser situation. They are all too fully aware that leaving/2
2/ will be nothing but lose/lose all round. Oh, except maybe for those who are trying to avoid the new tax legislation.
Second, the 48% who voted #Remain, and the @the3million and @BritishInEurope who were disenfranchised in the 2016 referendum /3
3/know only too well what it's like to have their vote ignored and their postal votes "lost" or maybe never counted. The BBC & other *impartial* media outlets name them persistently as #Remoaners, if mentioned at all. The PM referred to them as "losers" in the Withdrawal Bill. /4

#brexit seems to be all about feeling over fact and this is especially true of the ReesMogg ERG faction of the Tory right.
I never bought the line that #brexit is about Democracy because most of the Tory right had zero enthusiasm for improving democracy in the UK few of them care about unelected house of lords the unfair FPTP electoral system or transparency on the contrary
Most of the Tory right are interested only in constitutional changes that suit them and if anything strive to be as little democratically accountable as possible.

Bear with me. One of the intellectual difficulties with Brexit has always been that, by virtue of offering two such distinct and mutually exclusive paths, the counterfactual would always be difficult to prove. This is why experts were attacked. 2
You say “See? Brexit didn’t bring economic ruin.” I point out “Economy is showing worrying signs and we haven’t left yet.” Similarly, in the event of a post-Brexit economic collapse, there will be no way to prove it wasn’t due to other factors and would have happened anyway. 3

1. I am told I should welcome the efforts of @betterbrexit. I'm not impressed. It's too little, far too late and ill thought out. EEA might well be a large part of the solution but it is not a miracle solution and moving into it from the position of being an EU member is not easy
2. To maintain frictionless trade we would need a customs protocol to go with it along with a series of negotiated annexes which may take a number of years to complete. It's not as simple as just filling in an Efta application form.
3. EEA has often been described as an off the shelf solution (even by me) but it is only off the shelf insofar as it is an existing framework. It still needs to be beaten into shape and will have to take into account the concerns and red lines of Efta members.

The 'third way' is now the new thing in the #Brexit debate. Like No.10 suddenly discovered something last weekend after two years of trying.

So here's a long read on why there are no magic bullets to fix the customs conundrum - my latest

On the upside, a 'third way' carries implicit acknowledgement that the first two ways (the MaxFax and the New Customs Partnership) cannot solve the need for a border in the Irish Sea, if May wants to leave Customs Union and Single Market.

So what might the 'third way' be? /2
It will be a 'news customs arrangement' (which is code for a customs union, probably sugared by the idea that it's 'temporary' and only a bridge to the 'future' when technology (block chain blah) works and the 'new customs partnership) comes to fruition. /3

1. As you can see the hard #Brexit turnips have their panties in a bunch this week. It would appear they are seeking to leverage the EU's backstop position into a whole UK solution. How many times do they need to be told that this is not going to happen? (Thread!)
2. The NI situation is somewhat unique and any settlement will be an exemption from all the norms of trade and if the EU isn't careful it could find itself open to legal challenges. Wouldn't be surprised if they need to negotiate WTO waivers to complete implementation.
3. What the EU is not going to do though is allow us to pick and choose from the single market. They couldn't have been any clearer than that. they won't compromise their system integrity even for those much vaunted German car makers.
