I am incredibly excited to announce that I will start my lab in Paris at the @icm_institute in Sept 2019!!

Funded positions for PhD students (Sorbonne University), technician and postdocs! Check our brand-new website: dejuansanzlab.org

What will we work on? 👇👇(1/7).
We will use cutting-edge imaging techniques to study synaptic biology in firing synapses. One of our main interests is to understand how synapses maintain enough energy to repeatedly sustain the highly consuming process of synaptic transmission. (2/7)
We will dissect the role of single components of biochemical pathways in active synapses by visualizing them directly in live neurons – e.g. here is how we see ATP directly in nerve terminals using Syn-ATP (with a little drift 😂) (Rangaraju et al. Cell. 2014) (3/7).
Or here, Ca2+ dynamics of the axonal ER during neuronal activity using our new tools developed with @janeliagenie (de Juan-Sanz et al. Neuron 2017). Try yourself, get it from @addgene! (addgene.org/86918/) (4/7)
But how are synaptic ATP levels controlled during activity? What are the essential molecules sustaining synaptic bioenergetics in firing synapses? (5/7)
Combining optophysiology and unbiased screening approaches we aim to generate a comprehensive picture of the molecular mechanisms actively maintaining synaptic metabolic integrity - essential to understand transmission of information in the brain (6/7)
And all this science in the center of Paris, in a cutting-edge #neuroscience institute with incredible scientists and neurologists around – get in touch if interested in joining/spread the word! (7/7) dejuansanzlab.org
