1. If you have ever felt lonely, rejected, or even felt like God had abandoned you, then this short thread is for you. Let me share with you a personal story that I hope helps you enter deeper into experiencing Jesus even when you feel nobody cares for you.

2. When I entered seminary, I was a bit older than everyone else. I was 34 when everyone else was 24-27. But I was full of joy starting my new life. To study and learn a lot, plus I am an extrovert and I love meeting new people. Never had I imagined what I was about to experience

3. All started well. I met many new guys with whom I was going to share 7 years. My new 100 roommates. Nothing gives an extrovert more energy, but after a few months, I felt the loneliest person in the world. I was alone & I couldn’t understand why, but it was happening.

4. It is a very powerful feeling, especially when you live with so many people. I felt like a stranger and I hate to admit that I started liking my pity party. I felt very lonely and I hated it, but self pity was taking over & I found some weird comfort in feeling sad.

5. I just couldn’t understand how, after giving everything up, “God allowed” this to happen, as if God was in heaven getting bored and decided to be entertained with my suffering. This wrong idea was taking over my sadness for a while. I felt forgotten and abandoned.

6. I used to call my mother everyday, crying like a little child, looking for an excuse to leave it all, but I remember she said, “what a great moment to practice loving Jesus even when you don’t feel anything.” Then prayer took on a new important meaning: HOPE.

7. So I spent many months feeling lonely and rejected. But something happened. After a while I developed a love for Christ that required a complete and free YES without the control of my feelings. I learned to love God even when I didn’t feel like it. Even when I felt nothing.

8. So if you feel alone, rejected, forgotten, abandoned, and it all feels like God is gone, don’t lose your HOPE. Don’t let your “feelings bully you” into thinking that you are nothing for God, because even when you are at your worst, He is your best.
