Senate Finance Committee (chaired by Grassley) is now investigating meetings between #Obama admin officials Nathan Sheets & Stanley Fischer and Russian agents #MariaButina and Alexander Torshin that were arranged by the Center for the National Interest.

#ButNothingsHappening
Here's a previous thread I did on Nathan Sheets

In April 2018, the #Trump administration/US Treasury sanctioned Alexander Torshin for "worldwide malign activity."

The Center for the National Interest was founded by former President Richard Nixon back in 1994.

Dimitri Simes is the current president and CEO of the Center for the National Interest And was actually selected by Nixon.

Grassley and Wyden sent a separate letter to Dimitri Simes on 2/13/19 which is linked here:

The meeting allegedly set up by CFTNI was between Maria Butina, Alexander Torshin, Nathan Sheets, and Stanley Fischer in 2015.

At that time, Stanley Fischer was Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve and Nathan Sheets was Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs.
Grassley/Wyden are asking Dimitri Simes for records relating to those meetings, and any other Treasury, Federal Reserve officials and any other Russian government officials.
Here's a specific meeting that's being questioned by Grassley, which occurred on April 7, 2015 - h/t to @GTS_Watch (thank you!)

Dimitri Simes Center for the National Interest also published a magazine called "The National Interest."

The National Interest did a feature article on Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael #McFaul's book about Putin/Russia.

This is an interesting article by Yuri Felshtinsky, who appears to write anti-Communism/Anti-Putin books, but I'll take w a grain of salt since I know nothing about him.

In here it claims Dimitri Simes' CFTNI organized a meeting for Trump & supporters.

A meeting where Trump announced his foreign policy - at the Mayflower hotel. Sergei Kislyak also happened to attend this meeting.

Ohhh, and there's #Deripaska popping up again, LOL.
Of course, I should have known that looking into any of these people would not turn out a quick thread. Instead, as usual, it's taken me down a bunch more seemingly unending rabbit holes.
In the article, they are saying that Anton Fedyashin (Professor of History at the American University), and Dimitri Simes were #MariaButina's American handlers.

Simes is also part the Valdai Club along with Putin and other Russians such as Lavrov and Medvedev.
According to the article, Simes has also supported Putin in things such as his stance on Syria and Putin said he considered Simes his "American friend and colleague"
Another person that's part of Simes' National Interest advisory council is Richard Burt.

Burt was allegedly brought into the Trump campaign by Manafort.

Hmm, very intersting: Richard Burt also sits on the advisory board of....Alfa Bank.

Who else is involved with the Center for the National Interest?

None other than Henry Kissinger. Kissinger is on the board of directors as an "Honorary Chairman."

cftni.org/about/board-of…
And who now works for Kissinger? Did someone say #Brennan?

Here's Brennan's opening statement in testimony to the HSPCI on May 23, 2017

Kissinger also introduced Jared Kushner to the Ambassador to #China, after which Kushner was spied on and the FBI cabal started an investigation into Kushner.

Strzok's wife, who worked for SEC, also started investigation into Kushner's Chinese contacts.

Kissinger also had "strategic alliances" with many other interesting orgs and companies including Hakluyt and APCO.

I had also forgotten all about this.

Ed Cox, who is Nixon's son-in-law and Chairman of the NY Republican Party, is who supposedly referred Carter Page to the Trump campaign through Corey Lewandowski.

Oh? Dimitri Simes also has connections to #China and Stefan Halper

I also need to add @CarrollQuigley1 research thread here on The Center for the National Interest and Dimitri Simes:

Here is a thread I started on Stanley Fischer. Easier to do smaller threads and then just link them in here.

H/T to @thechiiium for finding this one.

A Thomas Nuccio fwd an email to Sean Sorbie at the DNC about his effort to try to get into Trump's foreign policy speech at CFTNI in April 2016.

Nuccio had worked for David Brock's American Bridge super PAC did research into Republicans and Trump people.

Now, he's a lobbyist (LOLOL what else is new) for Capitol Strategies Group.
