🏆In the astonishingly corrupt world of politics in Washington today, it is important to acknowledge people that do the right thing no matter the consequences. I think we should acknowledge the 58 members of the 115th Congress who did the right thing.

🥇These members of the 115th Congress didn’t think about the political ramifications, their reputations or the timing; they just voted honorably not to table the measure to impeach a prez who is clearly not abiding by the law or representing our country the way it deserves to be.

🏆Most of these members of the 115th Congress are still in Congress, but some are Governors or in new positions. One member, Louise Slaughter D-NY, sadly died in 2018. More on her later.

🏆On December 6, 2017, Al Green D-TX sponsored and introduced House resolution 646 to impeach Donald John Trump, President of the United States of high misdemeanors.

🏆Al Green D-TX @RepAlGreen, who represents Texas’ 9th district, sponsored HR 646. Green is an American lawyer, who assumed office in 2005.

After graduating from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, he worked as a trial lawyer, then was elected as justice of the peace in Harris County, Texas, where he served for 26 years. He also served as president of the Houston NAACP.

Brad Sherman D-CA @BradSherman represents #California’s 30th Congressional district w/in the San Fernando Valley & has been in Congress since 1997, also representing the 24th & 27th districts. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School & is a Certified Public Accountant

🏆Maxine Waters D-CA @RepMaxineWaters represents #California’s 43rd district and is currently in her 15th term in Congress. In 1966, Waters was hired as an assistant teacher with the Head Start program in Watts.

🏆While in the California Assembly (1976-1990), she helped pass legislation promoting corporate social responsibility using the Sullivan Principles. She also worked for the divestment of state pension funds from businesses in South Africa, operating under apartheid at that time.

🏆Steve Cohen D-TN @RepCohen has been representing #Tennessee’s 9th district—a predominantly African American district— since 2007. He developed an interest in politics when he contracted polio at age 5 and couldn’t play sports.

🎟Cohen also served as a Tennessee Senator from 1983-2006, where he helped repeal the state’s ban on lotteries in 2002 & the lottery now raises money for local schools & scholarships. Cohen thought Trump's handling of the Charlotteville incident was an impeachable offense.

🏆Luis Gutierrez D-IL @RepGutierrez serves the 4th congressional district of #Illinois (known as one of the most gerrymandered in the country nicknamed "earmuffs) & has since 1993.

Gutierrez is an advocate of workers' rights, LGBT rights, gender equality & progressive causes.

🏆Adriano Espaillat D-NY @RepEspaillat has represented #NewYork's 13th congressional district since 2017; previously, he was a member of the NY Senate & Assembly 1997-2016.

Espaillat is the first Dominican-American member of Congress.

🏆Marcia Louise Fudge D-OH @RepMarciaFudge serves #Ohio's 11th district and has since 2008. She was Mayor of Warrensville Heights, OH 2000-2008. She also worked in the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office & served as the Director of Budget & Finance.

On "Bloody Sunday," March 7, 1965 𝐋𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬 crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge with 600 other marchers in Selma, Alabama.

👮‍♂️🐎🚨The marchers were met by Alabama State Troopers (some on horseback) at the end of the bridge, who discharged tear gas & charged the demonstrators, beating them with night sticks.

𝐋𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬's skull was fractured, but he escaped across the bridge to Brown Chapel.

Before 𝐋𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬 was taken to the hospital, he appeared before the television cameras calling on President Johnson to intervene in #Alabama.
